Byetta vs victoza

Common Questions and Answers about Byetta vs victoza

byetta

Avatar n tn I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
Avatar m tn and what information I can gather on the web works as well as Victoza. I understand Byetta is coming out with a medication that lasts much longer but it uses a larger needle and is truly an injection. Don't understand why these drug companies in the US price their product out of reach of most....
Avatar m tn t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the input on Victoza. The first day on it I was fine but now nausea has stepped in. I expected this to happen because the same thing happened when I was taking Byetta. Victoza does take away your appetite and with having Diabetes it's a catch 22--you have to eat but you don't want to.
Avatar m tn good article Copy, sorry I missed it earlier. for a while I was off the metformin theory due to the newer drugs such as Byetta and Victoza being more "liver friendly". However, sice succoumbing to a throat tumor (victoza in particular known for thyroid issues) which will removed Monday, I'm off the liver spit drugs and back on the metformin band wagon.
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes. My doctor prescribed Byetta and I tried it for several months and the nausea side effects of it was devastating and caused me to gain even more weight. So, when my doctor told me about victoza and its weight loss benefits I was extremely excited about this revolutionary drug that would help lower my blood sugar level, AND LOSE WEIGHT at the same time. In the beginning, Victoza was God sent to me. My apetite decreased and I dropped 15 pounds in about 4-6 months.

Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
Avatar m tn I have been on Victoza for years and didn't think I had any side effects and my sugar levels were the best they've been in years so I have been really happy with doing the daily injections. I started out on the lowest dose,0.6. Gradually the dosage increased to 1.2. Just recently I was taken off of Glyburide and increased my Victoza dosage to the larger dose. My doctor thought this would help me to lose weight since I've been gaining, not losing.
1236243 tn?1277680851 Victoza is made by Novo Nordisk, makers of Novolin Insulin. Victoza is the brand name approved in Europe for Liraglutide. Once daily Victoza, is the first human Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Victoza works by stimulating the release of insulin only when blood sugar levels are high. You can find research results on Victoza by using the search words "Liraglutide clinical trials result" (without quotes).
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Avatar n tn When I got sick I attributted it to the Victoza increase. My doctor told me to go off of Victoza for a couple days, go to the low dose for a couple days, increase to the next dose for a couple days and then go back to the larger dose and see if it makes me ill so that I can rule out the Victoza. I've been off of Victoza for 2 days now and I haven't needed any medication (Zantac, Tums, Pepto-Bismol, etc.) for my stomach at all.
Avatar f tn The FDA has asked Novo Nordisk [the maker of Victoza] to perform a 5 year study to see if there is a link between Victoza and thyroid cancer.
2125647 tn?1338651465 Just wanted to say how hard and frustrated I was stuck at 215 down from 245 at my top weight. Went to see my Dr. who told me he went to a convention and mentioned maybe Victoza would help. I was so frightened to take daily needles and thought I just cannot do that to myself, but I decided to try it for my health because I am now pre diabetic and don't want to advance into quote status : diabetic My father just had his toes amputated and I don't want that in my future.
Avatar n tn Byeta is a class of drugs called insulin mimetics. This includes Byeta/ Bydureon, Victoza, Januvia, among others. Maybe your Dr can check if any of the others are covered and may be of help for you. If you cannot get these drugs, you may want to try a low carb diet (low carb, moderate protein, and fat for balance of energy). Some people find this way of eating helps both blood sugar control and weight management.
Avatar f tn I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
178107 tn?1315947630 Has anyone used Byetta? I started taking it four weeks ago and it has done wonders on controling my blood sugars and I have also lost 16 pounds. My doctor told me that it may help me to drop a few pounds, but I never thought it could help that much. I admit it does make you nausious, but I can take that for the weight loss.
Avatar f tn Well, victoza will start off making you have nausea, vomiting sometime. You will get past this, it can take up to three months. After that I just kind of never felt right but thought I was just going to have to deal with this the rest of my life! Than about at 10 to 12 months I started to have severe stomach pain which I thought was my gall bladder. I was probably having pancreatic attacks, but never went to the hospital to have blood work; very stupid idea by the way.
Avatar n tn I'm a type II diabetic, diagnosed in 2001. I have been on victoza since around November of 2011. I wasn't considered overweight (147 and 5'7" tall). I have lost nearly 23 pounds and can't stop losing, it seems. My lack of appetite is real concerning to me as well as the other side effects and the effects on my liver and kidneys. I would love to get off this drug for sure.
Avatar n tn Could Metformin cause thinning or hair loss? I started two Metformin 500 mg a day last May. Went on a locarb, no processed foods or alcohol diet. Lost 30#'s. End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what type of reaction one is likely to get by mixing Metformin and Victoza with meds for Hep C? These are non insulin meds. I am particularly interested in the interaction with Victoza which is a good stabilizer. Both of these meds can cause some stomach distress.
Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin, Januvia and Glimeperide for a few years. They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5 lbs cause I couldn't eat anything.
Avatar f tn I have been on Victoza for 2 weeks. I begin the new amt. this p.m. 1.8. We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(.
Avatar f tn After initial diagnosis I was able to control this very well, and I was started on Metformin and Victoza - I brought my A1C down to a 7 from a 10. In the last 6 months my blood sugar numbers have gone up suddenly to A1C 8.8 despite no change to medication etc, and over the last 6 weeks I have had unusual lower leg swelling. Also, now my "liver enzymes & function are at 86." Of course the nurse didn't specify which, but they sent me for an upper quadrant ultrasound.
Avatar n tn Has the doctor taken you off of Byetta? I am on byetta and just found out I am pregnant. I am scared that something could go wrong. I have waited 7 years to concieved. Have you heard of any damaging side effects with Byetta? I am off now and only 4 weeks pregnant. I just know what to think.
Avatar f tn My fasting glucose level has increased in the last month. I've been taking my meds as directed and my diet has remained the same. I've been injecting Byetta for nearly two years (twice a day). My husband saw that there is a class action suit against the manufacturer because of side effects, damage to the pancreas. I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues.
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
502219 tn?1311357910 In March while following up on a case of Ludwigs Angina my enhanced CT scan showed.small non pathologically enlarged lymph nodes bilaterally with some inhomogeneity within the thyroid. I hadn't really worried about it until today when I saw a commercial for a law firm warning that the diabetic drug "Byetta" could cause thyroid cancer. I used this med for over a year in 2006 and was taken off because of other complications. Now I'm scared. Should I be?
