1116801 tn?1292254540 common by all accounts , i dont use redipen but the pre filled syrynges are very cheap too, often not properly filed and honed, meaning they are a bit jagged sometimes
Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
Avatar m tn Like byetta or something. Also I read that crf causes insulin resistance. Any ideas?? His bs has been 350- 500 before adding fast insulin.
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Avatar f tn I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
178107 tn?1315947630 Has anyone used Byetta? I started taking it four weeks ago and it has done wonders on controling my blood sugars and I have also lost 16 pounds. My doctor told me that it may help me to drop a few pounds, but I never thought it could help that much. I admit it does make you nausious, but I can take that for the weight loss.
Avatar n tn I am worried because I stuck myself with a ball point pen it didn't really bleed but left a little red mark where I got stuck. I am afraid because a person who I KNOW has hiv (he has told me) also was using one of the pen at work to punch holes in bags were were making (working at valentines shop) and stuck himself as well.. I don't know if it was the same pen but if it were does anybody think I could be at risk..
Avatar n tn I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
1273125 tn?1365077526 I have tried other medications such as Actos and Januvia but they did not make that big a difference. I tried the Byetta as well with the same results. So I am not afraid of needles or injections. My question would be which insulin pens would be my best choice? I think a long acting such as Lantus and I might need a rapid acting one for meals? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am going to see the nurse practioner today in my doctor's office.
Avatar f tn Most facilities use a seperate pen per patent, but some DO use the same pen, and change the needles, that's not really that unheard of. This is definitely not an HIV risk, and would be a VERRRRY low risk for anything else. Minute. With the nature of how the pen works, it's not like anything gets drawn INTO the pen that could cause a risk that way.
Avatar n tn I take a variety of different medications to help with my blood sugars. The two main ones that I take are Metformin and an inject-able pen medication called Byetta. Both help me to keep my blood sugars to a manageable level. I can't really tell you exactly how to keep your blood sugars from spiking during the morning. Each persons metabolism is a bit different from each other so what may work for me, may not work for you.
645800 tn?1466860955 But the VA has still not shipped the needles for the pen. Shipments from the VA in Nashville only take a day to get to my home once they are shipped. They notified the USPS yesterday that they were going to ship the needles from Nashville. So just how messed up is the VA? 1. they could have actually shipped the needles yesterday. 2. they could have waited on having the pens shipped until the day they actually shipped the needles. 3.
Avatar f tn An HIV + person handed me a pen to sign for my credit card purchase that he rang out for me...handling the clothes, my credit card, and the pen...I have a healing cut-seems to be healed, peeling skin, rash from eczema, and cuticle hangnails. Could I be at risk if the man had popped a pimple, or had any other bodily fluid on his hands or pen?
Avatar n tn Has the doctor taken you off of Byetta? I am on byetta and just found out I am pregnant. I am scared that something could go wrong. I have waited 7 years to concieved. Have you heard of any damaging side effects with Byetta? I am off now and only 4 weeks pregnant. I just know what to think.
Avatar f tn My fasting glucose level has increased in the last month. I've been taking my meds as directed and my diet has remained the same. I've been injecting Byetta for nearly two years (twice a day). My husband saw that there is a class action suit against the manufacturer because of side effects, damage to the pancreas. I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues.
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
502219 tn?1311357910 In March while following up on a case of Ludwigs Angina my enhanced CT scan showed.small non pathologically enlarged lymph nodes bilaterally with some inhomogeneity within the thyroid. I hadn't really worried about it until today when I saw a commercial for a law firm warning that the diabetic drug "Byetta" could cause thyroid cancer. I used this med for over a year in 2006 and was taken off because of other complications. Now I'm scared. Should I be?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 3 months ago. I was started on byetta at the routine initial dose which was increased 2 months ago. I am only taking byetta, and no oral hypoglycemics (metformin, etc.)I have lost 29 lbs in that length of time, primarily due to decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting. I understand that this is in all likelyhood due to delayed gastric emptying. My question: Is this ever going to get better???
Avatar f tn You can purchase a small Sharps Container at Walmart or probably any pharmacy. I think Walmart charges almost $7 for it. I put my pen needles, lancets, and used strips in it. My primary care physician offered to dispose of my Sharps container when it was full. I just took one to his office last week after using it for 5 months. I check my sugar 4 times a day so that should give you some idea how long the container will last. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I didn't respond to your question. I don't know anything about Byetta.
Avatar m tn would a needlestick injury include the pen scenario above, including the theoretical risk.. because I am so sure that a pen can have blood on it and pierce through skin.
Avatar f tn I have been on Avonex for 6 yrs, never given myself a shot (cannot do it, hate the sight of needles) my wife is a godsend. Just got switched to the pen and the first use was spectacular! I was getting ready to ask her when she was going to start, when I opened my eyes and realized she was done! I did not feel a thing, I am actually looking forward to next week to make sure it was not a fluke.
1272624 tn?1395434357 Just a little 411 about the gonal-f pen when you have given the last of the shot from the pen look at it for example the 300 iu pen has 415ius in it I found you can use a regular needle and get 100ius from the pen after the pen will not go any more so I am saving all the pens in the frig and I will use them that way useing a reg needle if I run out !
Avatar m tn Very well explained mam.. So all of lancet needles is single use. i understand if pen type lancet they need to re change the needle inside. So all those mini lancet device all of them is cannot be re used right??
Avatar n tn Are you a type 1 or type 2 diabetic? He is type 2 he started taking a new medication called byetta. You inject in your arm before you meals. My husband has lost 40 lbs in the last 6 months. He just can't eat like he used to since he has been on the byetta. It curves your appetite and apparently helps your body produce it's own insulin. It might be something you want to run by your endo doctor. Let me know.
