Hi there...I take Wellbutrin XL (300 mg extended release bupropion) and no I didn't gain weight on it. I have been on differing doses for over 2 years. Also, no loss of sex drive if that is important to you which is a common side effect of most of the other medications used for anxiety.

What if you control your food intake do you still gain weight. I am on cymbalta and I am never hungry but it is giving me other bad side effects so I am afraid the doctor is going to change it and all the other options I have read about all say weight gain. All of these drugs come with many side effects -- some suffer more, some less, but all drugs have side effects. They are very powerful and alter the way the body functions naturally, so naturally they throw some things out of balance. How much depends on the person. General docs just don't know this stuff that well as they don't receive specialized training in it.

My husband das been diagnosed with depression and anxiety had been taking Effexor XR 75mgs or about 1 year however the side effects ie weight gain tiredness and loss of libido was troubling him. The switched to cymbaltor, due to high costs (even with insurance) of this medication is wanting to switch to somethig that is less expensive and that has a generic available. Will I lose or gain weight while being on 150mg? Is burpropion very different from Wellbutrin? Like are the side effects different in anyway? If I increase my dose to 300mg a day instead of 150mg will I lose more weight?

Avanza (mirtazapine) is associated with weight gain. Have you tried Wellbutrin (bupropion)? It is an antidepressant associated with weight loss. Wellbutrin is likely safer to use in combo with Effexor than Reductil (sibutramine).

m angry that he has put me on atenolol to counteract the side effects of bupropion. What is going to fight the side effects of the atenolol? I do not want to be a walking pharmacy.

SSRIs have way too many negative side effects I believe such as weight gain, sexual dysfunction and even increased depression. Another reason why I think bupropion is a much better choice and should actually be the first choice treatment rather than an SSRI. The other thing is that even though bupropion only inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine it does also indirectly increase serotonin as well.

Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. If there is a change in voice (Voice becomes dusky), weight gain, intolerance to cold etc. You need to get your T3, t4 and TSH level checked as it may be in initial phase.

I am currently on effexor and have no weight gain issues or other side effects. I take 150 mg per day. I have also tried an antidepressant called Escitalopram (or Cipralex) and had no secondary effects whatsoever with that prescription but changed because I was at the maximum dosage of the therapeutic level and wasn't progressing very well. Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?

I had one at the beginning of month (it is regulated by birth control) and after 2 days of being on the new bupropion... I am having what seems to be another period?? Are re-having the side effects of the same drug normal??? Would the drug mess with my cycle?? even though the previous one never did? and it is supposed to be the same thing?

I am a little stressed out,but Not depressed at all. Should i be concerned about dangerous side effects or try it? If it does NOT work out for me, how do i safely get off it?

If this drug is having you gain any excess weight, and I think that because you know what the side effects of both Wellbutrin and Citalopram are, (weight loss right?) you are more than capable of eating right and exercising. You're posting in the anxiety community, and wellbutrin is mostly used as an antidepressant because of its stimulating properties (although it is often used as an adjunct to an ssri for those who suffer sexual side effects and weight gain). So it could be the stimulating properties that are wearing you out, though it's hard to say from what you report. I do think you've been on it long enough to know if it was going to work, most likely, but we're all different.

It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.

I was prescribed 300 mg xl of bupropion for anxiety that comes from a neurlogical problem in my eyes called Nystagmus. I think side effects of bupropion cause blurred vision and problems with one eye not moving in conjunction with the other which is horrible in addition to Nystagmus. I've lived with this because I was told bupropion is the least likeliest of pills to cause sexual disfunction. Is this true?

I'm on 10mg of Prozac and have noticed some weight gain within the past 2 months or so and my doctor has suggested I start taking Wellbutrin along with the Prozac but my biggest concern is having panic attacks. I suffer from panic disorder w/ agoraphobia and the Prozac has been helping but I'm afraid that adding on the Wellbutrin may counteract that. Thank you for responding, I have been on Paxil for 7yrs and have had sexual side effects and also weight gain. I asked if I could be put on something else that doesn't have these effects. So the doctor told me to stop the paxil and replace it with the Wellbutrin. I have been on the drug for 5 days at 150 mg and have had side effects. It feel like my body is having jolts or zaps. I feel dizzy and can't move to fast because of it, I am nervous about driving as well.
