Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
Avatar n tn 1) Nicotine patches and nicotine gum are available over-the-counter. The nicotine nasal spray and nicotine inhaler are currently available only by prescription from a doctor. 2) These products provide a small amount of nicotine that will help relieve many of the withdrawal symptoms that a smoker may feel when quitting. 3) The goal is to be free of both cigarettes and the nicotine substitute within three to six months.
Avatar f tn I just recently started using the Nicotine Transdermal Patch to help me quit smoking. I made the mistake of not reading the entire information slip before starting it. Right now I am on the 21 mg patch, and I have been smoking a little here and there after taking off the patch. I have a severe headache, I am nausious, my lungs feel like their closes up, which is making my asthma worse, and now I have a pain in my right arm. Is this a sign of a nicotine overdose? If so, what should I do?
Avatar m tn I think I'm addicted to nicotine patches, i think I'm going through withdrawal, headache, nausea tiredness. I'm a hypochondriac so I do if it's from nicotine withdrawal or other health problems. Is it possible to withdrawal from nicotine patches? Please help me...
1588890 tn?1297073916 Hi Ellienc, In reality one would think the Nicotine Patch would not have an adverse effect when combined with the Fentanyl Patch. After all the Nicotine Patch is just that, nicotine which I assume you inhale daily. However it is a concentrated form which raises questions about the interaction of the two. As Namnam said, best to consult with your physician or YOUR pharmacist. It should be the pharmacist that is aware of all your medications.
Avatar f tn I dont ever crave cigarettes cause I go weeks without one but I do it because I feel normal for 5 to 10 minutes. Would it be safe to use a nicotine patch for my depression? IM DESPERATE and dealing with this is getting harder everyday. Thank you.
736475 tn?1281259327 Oopps - I had the same thing happen to me when using the patch. Do Not Wear The Patch to Bed!!! After all, did we smoke while we were sleeping? Take it off at bed then put a new one on first thing in the morning. Sweet dreams should return.
675718 tn?1530033033 Hiya :) I don't whether its advisable but this is what worked for me.. I kind of tailored my nicotine replacement to my own needs and this is day 29 of not smoking for me.. I started with a patch and an inhalator..
Avatar f tn Both deliver nicotine to your blood stream. With patch you supposed to quit eventually so it should phase it out for a smoke free pregnancy. Check with your employer, many will actually pay for a smoking sessation program. You will need the $$$, trust me!!!
Avatar m tn before she adds or subtracts any over-the-counter or prescription medicine, including the nicotine patch. Her dr. can refer her to several resources for stopping smoking, medical and non-medical. The important thing is that while she is on such a specific protocol for cancer treatment, any substance added or removed from her day to day intake, including nicotine, could have an impact on the outcome of her treatment. Please encourage her to coordinate with her physician, ok?
1541754 tn?1294331420 There is already a drug prescripted for adult ADHD called Bupropion that is based on nicotine, it works by stimualting nicotinic receptors in the brain, just like the nicotine in cigarette smoke does. It works well for a lot of people who take it. Right now , as well, drug companies are working at developing new ADHD drugs that work by stimualting nicotinic receptors in the brain, Anyway, one idea I've got for you is this...
Avatar n tn Yes there is no smoke with harmful particles using electric cigarettes, but you still receive Nicotine. This chemical hits the Brain in less than 10 seconds and starts all kinds of chemical reactions. Heart rates increases, blood pressure increases, sugars are released into the blood to name but a few. I think his Doctor would need to help with the addiction. There are 2 types of addiction. 1) those who smoke through habits, initiated by triggers such as drinking, eating or socializing.
Avatar f tn No it is not ok at all to use it. There is nothing you can use. You just need to quit. I was a smoker too but I had two cigrettes after I found out and then I completley stopped. I can't even stand the thought of smoking a cigrette. It makes me so sick and I dont crave them at all. You just need to get past the first couple days and you will be fine. There are too many risks to your unborn child to continue smoking.
498385 tn?1362449404 Ok well I am smoking again it is under a 1/2 pack a day.Question is I bought the patch. How is that working for anybody who is using it? What are the side affects.Does it work?Plus I heard that it can give you a heart attack if you smoke on it.
Avatar f tn I am a smoker and my doctor told me not to take any smoke aids because they often deliver non stop nicotine such as the patch and things like chantax have bad side affects such as depression which obviously isn't good for the baby. I am having a horrible time quitting and its my first pregnancy so I feel awful..
Avatar f tn ve been a pack a day smoker for a good bit of time is it safer to cut down to 0 is the nicotine patch safe to use? Lastly I haven't been throwing up I'm just hungry and nauseous at the same time 80% of the day. And I want to sleep all day is this normal?
497868 tn?1212223282 Hi, thanks a lot for Your reply! I do not wear the patch of Nicotine at the night time, but was considering to get one in case I could sleep better. How do You think what causes it? Should I use Nicotine Patch to help me to have normal sleep, I feel like I was not sleeping for a week or so, and I can not get to sleep as I dream all the rubbish..Moreover I committed to stop smoking but I need to study at my University now to write exams and I am so tired, can not concentrate, I am lost.
