suboxone

The benefit of going to a higher dose would be the reduction in cravings, and the more level opiate effects throughout the day.
Avatar m tn My relative isn't seeking recovery or anything to do with meds, but for years has went to the mayo clinic and many others to try and find some kind of relief from debilitating pain. For a while they thought he had fibromyalgia, now he has some new diagnosis, but has lived in terrible pain 24/7 for years. He's at the point where the pain absolutely constrols his every thought and is desperate for relief.
Avatar f tn Are you going to need pain relief for along time? Coming off those types of meds are very tough, much tougher than oxys.
1405767 tn?1282634598 There is a difference between being "hooked" on the meds because you're in pain and can't live otherwise and being "hooked on the feeling" of euphoria that some people get from pain meds. You've been on pain meds for years, so I doubt you even feel anything but pain relief when you take them. That's the way it is for most of us. We are opiate tolerant and dependent. Our bodies are physically dependent on the meds to function.
Avatar f tn dose of buprenorphine. Buprenorphine is used to treat pain in microgram doses; the BuTrans patch is used in the UK to treat pain, and it releases buprenorphine at a rate of 5-20 MICROGRAMS per hour! One tablet of Suboxone containes 8000 micrograms! So whether a person is taking one, two, three, or more tabs of Suboxone per day, he is taking a very large dose of buprenorphine--- a dose large enough to ascertain that he is up on the 'ceiling' of the dose/response curve.
Avatar m tn Subutex, which is composed of only buprenorphine, and Suboxone, which is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It's my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks.
Avatar n tn Hi, my name is John P user name foreverinpain365. Back in 2005 I was involved in a accident at work that changed my life forever. To make a long story short a man tripped me and I ended up being thrown off a platform and I struck the back side of a truck head first. For about fourteen months I walked around with my right hand contracted and pain from my hand all the way up to my neck. Headaches, lost of memory, and lower back pain.
Avatar f tn ANY doc can prescribe Suboxone to treat chronic pain, for example. The problem is that many pharmacists (and docs) don’t understand this situation. It isn’t that it is too complicated—I blame doctors’ relative lack of interest in treating drug addicts for a lack of desire to learn about the medication and how to use it. Shame on us.
Avatar f tn I did find a doctor who does use Buprenorphine for pain patients, but I have to go through a pain clinic to see him. He is an Anesthesiologist. Apparently there are only 2-3 docs in Minnesota who are prescribing it.
1087566 tn?1282448730 I have had great sucess with the Fentanyl Patch. I have used it for about a year now and it gives me around the clock relief for 48-72 hrs. You may want to do some research on the Patch or chat with your Doctor about it. I also take Oxycodone for breakthrough. Give it some thought.
Avatar n tn I t really stinks, I know that severe pain is terrible and overall I know it truly feels like the only relief for the pain that you have found is through narcotic opiate pain relievers..try your hardest, really try, to seek any and all pain medications that are not opioids/opiates. Suboxone is mainly used as an opiate addiction treatment med.
Avatar f tn re thinking of the problems with using Suboxone rather than Subutex for pain management. The active ingredient in both of them is buprenorphine, a partial agonist synthetic opiate. Suboxone also contains naloxone which is there as a deterrent to abuse like crushing and injecting the pill. Without the naloxone present, you have no worries about your doctors needing to increase narcotics in an emergency or post-op situation.
Avatar f tn This drug can be taken as a pain reliever as well just like methadone can be taken for pain but is meant for drug addiction. Suboxone might be a better pain reliever than say Percocet, or Vicodin because it is extremely good with pain relief without getting you all high thus preventing addiction. So if you are on it for pain this doesn't at all classify you as a drug addict.
Avatar f tn ve read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?
Avatar f tn in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Avatar m tn I asked for the percocets, and after a couple hours of waiting, the nurse finally brought me a 37mg tramadol/325 APAP pill which is DEFINITELY not adequate pain relief. At this point, I was in serious pain, descending into opiate withdrawal rapidly and losing my wits. I sensed a change in all the nurses and doctors who were attending me, they were less compassionate and looked at me differently; as though they didn't fully believe anything I said. This made me extremely angry and upset.
Avatar n tn The patient just wants to have health monitored and be prescribed the pain medication that has been giving some relief for whatever days the patient has left on this earth. Does anyone know what type of doctor the patient should be looking for?
5023383 tn?1362471442 The best thing about Subutex is that other than a mild euphoria just after I take it that lasts for maybe five minutes, and a nasty aftertaste (you have to let it dissolve under your tongue, because taking it by any other route results in poor absorption), there ARE no side effects, except for, in my case, pain relief. WIthout Subutex, my daily resting pain level is a 6.
Avatar f tn Depending on the application form, buprenorphine is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain (pain that has outlasted its use to prevent injury and after three months) or for peri-operative analgesia.
Avatar f tn ve taken them for more than a month, you are likely tolerant to them-- meaning that they offer no pain relief, and ONLY offer the misery of withdrawal. Consider ditching them for buprenorphine, to avoid the withdrawal; you can consider tapering off buprenorphine later, when you've lost the weight and you aren't feeling 'defeated'-- the way that pain pills made ALL of us feel. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I have been taking buprenorphine, at the dose of 6mg/day, for pain management, for about 1 year. This last month, the pain relief from the medication has not been as effective, and I have ended up taking as much as 8mg to 10mg on some days. Consequently, my medication is running out 4 days earlier than expected, and I am concerned about not only the pain, but w/d's, because I think that I am now physically dependent on the drug.
Avatar f tn Suboxone contains the active medication buprenorphine. There is a great deal of emotion around this and other sites over Suboxone; I encourage you to listen primarily to medical professionals, as some of the other opinions have taken on zealotry that is more likely to cloud judgment than buprenorphine! Realize first that Suboxone contains nothing new; the two medications have been used by doctors for over 30 years.
Avatar n tn i suffer from chronic pain ive been on narcotics for 10 years my new dr says he has patients that take suboxone for pain and it helps there pain but they dont get the high, i dont care about the high i want my pain controlled, does anyone know if suboxone really works on pain im scared to try something new.even though the dr sas it works id rather hear it from someone who takes it. i currently take oxycodone30 and methadone 10 for my pain.
Avatar f tn Why would a Dr refuse to prescribe me subtex over suboxone for pain management if I have never admitted or reported or been caught as an opiate addict?
