Common Questions and Answers about Bumps on scalp after haircut

bumps

1.5 years ago I started having itchy and painful bumps on my scalp. Mostly on the back side of my scalp. I received antibiotic treatment and they went away. 6 months later they came back. I received antibiotic treatment again. They went away. This past summer they returned. I waited for them to go away. They did not. The severity varied until December of 2008. I went to the doctor and he gave me antibacterial shampoo treatment. This has not been helping.
These ingrown hairs usually occur following a short haircut on the back of the head and nape of the neck. Treatment of AKN includes suppression of the inflammation with antibiotics and steroid gels or intralesional steroid injections. So apply antibiotic cream like Neosporin or bactroban. If the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and steroids may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.
Maybe you can put some kind of an oil conditioner treatment and leave on overnight. This may help to sooth scalp. My scalp is so dry now and I have dandruff from hell. If I bend over and sctrtch it's like it's snowing!! Somebody posted about their ears peeling and mine are too.
the 2nd dermatologist i saw said I have ingrown hairs on my scalp from my hair being curly but the hair on the back of my neck is very fine and straight . plus how can i have ingrown hairs all of a sudden on top of my head when I dont shave my head or cut it low and the bumps started after scratching that area badly.
The last few days my scalp has gotten really bad on the part right above my neck. It is really bothering me, and i need to find a solution. I attached some pics hoping that someone might recognize what I have and recommend a method of treatment. Here is a little background: -I started shaving around june/july of 09 -I never had a problem in this area until maybe november of last year... since then it is not uncommon for me to have irritation here. However, this far exceeds the norm.
I am 25 years old, male, from India. Here's how the problem started. Tiny red bumps on back of the scalp back in 2003, they got very itchy. I would scratch them, and they'd be filled with sort of clear liquid. After a few months, I went to a dermatologist, she prescribed me with something (i can't remember). It didn't do anything, and I had to go back. Problem was, her appointments were pre-booked months in advance so it took forever to get anything done.
I started in 6th grade, I am a 26 year old female. I have 5-9 scalp I pick at a time on my scalp. I have long black hair and cant wear certain styles because my problem will be seen and people would laugh or judge me. I started med school last year, and the people around me everyday are medically smart and are starting to pick up that my fingers are in my hair pulling out scabs.
Dear Docotr, Since April, i have suffered with this. Weird feeling on the top of my scalp, some sores, burning and made worse my eating and talking. There is a lil pain but tolerable. I saw a dematologist a month ago and he said Acne Melaris? Stress? He Rx'd Achromycin and a scalp med (cormax)special shampoo and none of this has helped. I have finished all these 2 weeks ago.
i used them for 3 month and after i stoppped few one month after I had them back on my scalp and face.I called my dermotologist booked an apt and i saw him and said i should take accutane 40mg daily and antibiotic for 6 month and keep on using the stieprox shampoo for fungus , so i did that and i my scalp and face they got better , so after 6 month i was done my medication course went back for finale visit and he said that i am done .
Same poster; After a quick scruitinization - i have indeed found a few red lesions on my scalp - not to easy to see as i have medium length hair but they are definately there. Scalp itself in parts is VERY dry, grainy infact which obviously leading tot eh bad dandruff.
Occasionally, I feel bumps on my scalp - although I don't remember any blisters or sores at the time of chemo. My own diagnosis is that I had an untreated case of shingles during chemo, which resulted in an intractible post-herpetic neuralgia. I've been tested positive for herpes Zoster. My oncologist says it is unlikely - although my neurologists and dermatoligist all say it IS possible. I'm at my wits end.....
Three days ago I started feeling like whatever this was is now in my skin (I'm certain of it), It's under the skin on my face, my scalp, my back, my toes, and my feet. I can feel it crawling in and out of my anus at times also. Went to the dermatoligist today and of couse he says it's my imagination, some people get it. He's subscribed me some DEXEPIN for depression. :( Funny thing is I'm not depressed, my life was quite good until this bug showed up.
Try using 3% hydrogen peroxide left on overnight 1-2 times per week. Even if you dont have blond hair. It seems to stop the bumps from manifesting on scalp. What you have is Morgellons disease. I've had it for years. Strange welts/hives are the other side effect of this disease. Which I simply put triple antibiotic on when they arise. Good Luck, This works! Not a cure for this highly contagious disease.
My routine now is to take antibiotics for 1 1/2 weeks before my haircut. After the haircut I stop and it comes back full blast within 5 days. It seems like this problem is not solvable by using an external treatment. This is definately coming from the inside and is some kind of allergy or infection that antibiotics do kill. This is really getting old and nobody seems to know what to do here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It is very mild, just red bumps with no pus or anything you see on the internet. After going to my doctor he gave me oral antibiotics and Hibclens which im on day 2 of and to not get my hair cut so short. But i need some advice because i also have a history of horribly bad seborrheic dermatitis and the way my dermatologist and i found to keep it under control is to have my hair very short. Should i consolt my dermatologist and ask him if i can still get my hair cut short after this clears up?
On the walk home, my neck was really itchy but that's pretty normal after a haircut so I ignored it. A few days later the itch hadn't gone away and I'd noticed painful bumps in the area, I couldn't see them obviously so I took a picture and saw that the top of my neck was really red and irritated, covered in little red bumps. I googled it and found something called "barber's rash," which sounded like a common, temporary problem.
When i turned 19 i got lazy and decided to go back to my short hair but when i got my first haircut i noticed some small wrinkles on my scalp i don't know how they got there but i fear it might have something to do with the hair net. That's just what i think though i haven't found anything online to support it but i have also noticed that black people seem to have this condition more than others.
yes I know I'm a picker freak. I can remember my Dad having these bumps on the back of his neck when I was growing probley same age as i am now 45. I use to stick pins and everything in to his and he would just sit and I would stick the pin in deep looking for ingrown hairs. damn he was tough, my wife tried to do that to me, and i almost jumprd through the roof. my Dad is a much tougher man than me.
I have experienced hair loss on my left side shortely after wearing a L.E.D. lighted ball cap . I worked in an attic for 5 hours came out twice to clean my glasses and wipe sweat , neadless my hat was soaked . Anyway the battery back and wires were built in the left side . I didnt notice anythint after my shower that evening but I was horrified the next morning when I looked in the mirror . The baldness was a large circular pattern above my left ear running rectangular to my side burn .
I noticed the spot about 7 months ago after getter a haircut. In addition, I get pimples like those you see in the picture near the bottom hair line. I am not sure if they are even pimples, they keep appearing at different locations near the hairline and even at the bald spot in the past. Could i be getting these so called pimples due to unsanitary clippers at the barber shop? What causes the bald spot?
My new girlfriend and i had unprotected sex 9 months after dating and i have bumps on my penis too!!! why me? lol I have tried clotrimazole and canesten but nothing is clearing it up i even recieved some oral anti fungal medicine from a doc who said it seemed like a fungus, but he was too busy to check properly. or i should say whats left of it....so far no dry scalp issues..... i do have these weird little red bumps on my head though too...but they are popping up everywhere (random) ...im sure its the chemo and not hair folicles though....
i wouldn't count on your rash going away after the incivek...some of the large blisters might but the rash could stay for a while....even after tx ...mine did..it was nasty...4 months post tx i still get rashes easy but its not bad at all...no creams helped ..nothing worked... as tx went on by week 16 i started really feeling the interferon...i think i should have reduced it.....good luck...your going to clear the virus......hang in there...
so you can use it on your head; yes it will burn but put on a shower cap after you spritz your head with it, stay that way about 3-5 min... gone. spray the car down and put plastic around the upholstery for a while so it doesn't evaporate too quickly to do the job; make sure you air it well before you get in later! on skin; its different. and you can also try a couple things i know work. the best i found is from new zealand; they ship slowly for free.
At birth I had a giant cavernous hemangeoma on my right arm, it healed after a severe infection. Now I just have a scar on my arm that looks like I was burned...but I have gotten used to it and don't even notice it. But, it is my understanding that the vascular birthmarks are not associated with the follicle/epidermal ones? If anyone has had a young child undergo surgery on the head for a NS I would appreciate any info. about the suregery and recovery.
My husband had a couple of bumps on the back of his head and the only time they ever bothered him was when he was getting a haircut. He had been to the Doctor several times because they would swell up with fluid and time after time he was diagnosed with a sebaceous cyst. They would lance it and it would go back down. After finally getting a different Dr, he thought too that it was a sebaceous cyst and decided to remove it right there in the office.
it is like a large worm i can feel move on my scalp and after i feel it move there is a big indent where it was.
Dana- I'm getting ready to watch it I have it on the dvr so after I shower I can put it on and FF through the ****.
I'm curious if everyone on this forum has had constipation as a recurrent problem. I'm not now, but was all during childhood up until a few years ago (when I started having daily bowel movements). I also consumed mass quantities of milk and sweets as a child and into adulthood. Plus started drinking beer on a semi regular basis about 12 yrs ago. These things would make candida overgrowth a definite possibility acoording to all accounts.
