In the past two days, red bumps have appeared in an area the size of a dime on the upper right rear of my scalp. They appear to be spreading and are slightly tender, sore to the touch. On the second day I am experiencing occasional stabs of pain from the area, similar to headache pains and short in duration. Rash, insect bite, serious?

I started getting hard bumps on my scalp several years ago. The feel like really hard scabs and are painful to the touch. They are about the circumfrence of the tip of my index finger. Hi, The bumps on your scalp may be due to folliculitis, dermatitis, viral infections, acne or blockage of ducts leading to sebacious cysts. To be able to reach a diagnosis, direct clinical examination is important. Have this evaluated further for proper management. With regards to your dandruff, daily washing with an antidandruff shampoo may help decrease oil and cell buildup. There are plenty of dandruff shampoo available in the market today.
For years now I get these bumps on my scalp. It starts out I will feel like pin ***** on my scalp, within 10 minutes or so a painful bump like a small boil will result. It will get a small whitehead in the center, and be painfull and sensitive. If I pop it,a small amount of green puss comes out first followed by clear watery looking stuff. It will fester up again and clear watery stuff comes out.The skin will dry up in a day or 2,and flace off.

Hi, This could be due to folliculitis. You should consult your doctor to rule out the possible causes of your symptoms including hypothyroidism, vitamin deficiencies, adrenal insufficiency, etc. Folliculitis reflects infections around the hair follicles, most often involving the sebaceous gland. The bacteria that cause these infections reside on the skin.
