Avatar f tn I suddenly had developed wheezing and coughing after exposure to some toxic paint plus for a couple of years when I climb stairs I am short of breath. He said to take meds for a month at one dose and for another month at a half dose and to thereafter see another pulmonologist. He prescribed three meds, one ('Nasonex') that was already taking based on an ENT's recommendation. I am able to find that one easily in many countries where I travel.
1523893 tn?1301579774 Last week my neuro put me on a 3 day dose of Prednisone to hopefully offset the flare I was in the middle of. He put me on 3 days of oral pred, quite a huge dose (25 pills per day, each being 50 mg). I took my three days worth of pills hoping I would see a difference, but have yet to feel any better. In fact I am worse and I am wondering if I should see a physician about my symtoms. Weight gain, no energy, facial swelling, horrible fog, painful skin on my neck and shoulders.
Avatar f tn s Colitis. As I had stopped prednisone to go onto budesonide, I had no protection in the colon, hence the flare. After leaving hospital (where I was on holiday in Florida) I saw my gastro in England and asked for methotrexate, oral at first 25 mg a week, now for the past 6-7 yrs weekly injections of 12.5mg. Doing very well, and although there can be serious side effects such as liver toxicity and disruption to the bone marrow, I am monitored monthly and have no problems.
635835 tn?1272539383 This particular regimen is used because twice daily dosing is believed to improve gastrointestinal tolerability, while giving the second dose at lunchtime is thought to minimize insomnia compared to giving the dose later in the day. Individualization of relapse therapy based on patient- and disease-specific factors may influence decisions about the specific corticosteroid route and regimen the patient receives.
Avatar m tn He developed diabetes and pancreatitis and had to be hospitalized for 10 days! We have now switched to 1mg of Budesonide a day to help with the inflammation and to try and bring the diabetes under control, we are giving our cat 1cc of insulin a day and we have switched his diet to Nature's Variety Instinct brand of cat food in the rabbit formulation.
Avatar m tn Have you tried saline sinus rinses like the neti pot? There isn't much blood flow to the sinuses which is why antibiotics don't always work. This helps to flush out the sinuses of whatever is irriating them and helps the cilia (the little hair cells that help to move mucous through) heal and work better. It has helped immersely for my allergies and greatly reduces the time it takes for me to get through a sinus cold. I use the neli-med system that is available in co-op and walmart.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for the comments. Its good to know what meds work. Q: Does the dr. give you Budesonide when your having a flare up or do you take it like Asacol on a regular basis to control Crohn's? I'm so afraid to take prednisone again, I didn't like how I had so many side effect with it. I have been hearing a lot about Methotextrate (thats what you meant by mtx, right?) All the things I have heard are good. Q: Do you take mtx on a reg. basis?
Avatar f tn As a point of reference, the recommended dose of steroids to treat an MS relapse is equivalent to taking 25 of those prednisone tablets in one dose. A three-day course of steroids would require 75 tablets. That should illustrate for you the need for a greater amount to treat your symptoms. Welcome again and I hope we see you around.
Avatar m tn Hi, Matt. You sound a lot calmer than before, which is a good thing. Just a few ideas now that you do have a diagnosis: MS can be mild and it can be severe. Most of us have bouts of both, but on the whole we do pretty well. We want to stay that way. Your doctor gave you prednisone, a steroid, to try to knock out inflammation you're experiencing now, to calm down whatever symptoms you have. Few doctors would administer that small a dose, but I'll pass over that for now.
Avatar f tn Since one grain of desiccated thyroid med is equivalent to about 66 mcg of T4, your old dose of 113.75 mg of NatureThroid (1 3/4 grains) was the equivalent of about 116 mcg of T4 (1.75 times 66 =115.5). T3 is about three times as potent as T4, so your current dose of 88 mcg of Synthroid and 20 mcg of T3 is equivalent to 148 mcg of T4 (88 + 3 times 20 = 148).
Avatar f tn I have to agree a slower taper will be much easier on her also better to monitor her response rather than put her system into a rapid reduction, only reduce by 1/4 at a time not 50% that's way too fast, and any Vet would/should be in agreement with that. Plus get an inhaler ASAP, she does need to have this for emergencies if nothing else.
Avatar m tn I took Primatene mist for asthma 2 months back but my doctor asked me to stop using it and prescribed PREDNISONE, ALBUTEROL inhaler and BUDESONIDE and I have been taking these for past two months. My tests came negative. My question are 1) Is test conclusive? 2) Does medications mentioned above cause false negative? 3) It was 8 panel test which includes Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HSV 1, HSV 2, HIV and syphilis. All except HSV 1 came negative.
Avatar n tn I had protected vaginal sex but not sure condom was intact or not
776872 tn?1247938680 Prednisone is a "rescue therapy" - i.e. it is used to help bring an acute flareup in control. Depending on dosage and length of use, it can cause multiple side effects, including weight gain, insomnia, mood swings etc. If you don't see reduction in frequency of bowel movements or amount of blood, check back with your doctor - you may need higher dosage or other meds in parallel. Note Crohn's is unsolved, so best the meds and docs can do is try to control it and its symptoms.
6012171 tn?1381679620 Intravenous Solumedrol, the drug often used to cut short severe MS flares, is given for 3 to 5 days at 1000 mg per day. This is equivalent to 1250 mg per day of oral prednisone. And even after 5 days of this, many doctors, including mine, do not prescribe a taper. Just to put things in perspective... Those who take prednisone regularly and long term are very likely to need tapering.
Avatar f tn After a few days of suffering side effects and getting much worse I went back to the doctor and he confirmed that I am allergic to budesonide, which he said is quite unusual. He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids. He directed me to take both atrovent and ventolin 2 times a day for a month but I don't really have a long term treatment plan. The doctor seemed a bit stumped as to what else to do.
Avatar m tn Hey guess I need some advice on this please. I was on 100 mg a day for a week now I'm tapering down to 4 everyother day.iI'm going in to my second week of the 4 every other day. Couple days ago I was getting headaches now today 30 min after I was feeling shortness of breath than it went away is this caused by the medication. It happen twice today in the morning after I took first two pills and during lunch.it scared me badddd..
Avatar f tn 1 ratio and apply it to your prior split dose, that would average about 139 equivalent mcg of T4. Your current dose would be 125 + 3 times 15 = 170 equivalent mcg of T4. To be close to that amount would require 2 1/2 grains of NP Thyroid, which is about 150 mg and would give you 162 mcg of equivalent T4. The proposed new dose would be only 82 equivalent mcg of T4 (47.5 mcg of T4 + 11.5 mcg of T3 times 3 = 82), which is far too little.
959034 tn?1253671476 How much prednisone are you taking daily? I understand that 7 - 10 mg of prednisone is equivalent to your strongest steroid inhalers that are available. V.
640719 tn?1277140030 5 mg would be roughly equivalent to 50 mcg. However, bear in mind that the two are not really equivalent since T3 and T4 are very different. The chart only offers a place to start, and your starting dose should take that into account along with other factors, like your typical drug tolerance and the fact that T3 sometimes takes a little getting used to. So, your overall dose will be a little on the low side, but I don't think it's an unreasonable place to start.
Avatar n tn As you know the clinical trials of Pulmicort Flexhaler® (budesonide inhalation powder) were performed on children age 6 and above. Since we know the medicine is safe for use in very young children from Pulmicort Respules™ (budesonide inhalation suspension) the most likely reason they chose 6 and above was because many children less than age 6 would not be able to use this delivery device effectively.
Avatar m tn Their pharmacist puts into one capsule the drug that is equivalent to 25 prednisone tabs. It is much easier on the stomach. You can read more about it at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.

Avatar f tn Lou how did it go on keeping a regiment of prednisone? My dad has a long history of diabetes and prednisone... in the past year or so he has been having "outbreaks" of what one doctor described at a "relative" of parkinsons. The only think that seems to help is a stress dose of prednisone and then we have to slowly take him back down. I can't seem to get below 10 mg without him having one of these episodes. He has seen so many doctors in the past year...
