Avatar f tn I do self injected methotrexate weekly, 12.5 mg and it works for me. The reason I was changed from 25 mg oral tablets was because I still had explosive diarrhea in the mornings and my gastro thought with the ulcers/abscesses in my intetines, I was not absorbing enough of the medicine. This way we both know how much mtx I am getting. Hang in there - it can take some time to find the right med for you. Liz.
Avatar f tn About 6 months ago, I was finally diagnosed and started taking cyclosporine 100 mg 2x day. After a week, I could eat like a normal person—just about anything I wanted. It was great, it even allowed me to travel to Europe. The cyclosporine I was taking was a powder in a capsule, apparently this has been taken off the market and instead I took the same medication, but it was in the form of a capsule with alcohol. Unfortunately, after a short time, I was right back to before treatment.
Avatar f tn Budesonide is the generic name, i am on Entocort with contains budesonide, because budesonide is not sold generically in the state of new jersey. I have been on it for about 3 months now, but I was also on it for quite awhile a few years ago. I have never had anything but success with it. there are no side effects. I will be on it for another 2 months and my dr plans to take me off of it.

Anti Nuclear Antibody: Positive; Titre = 1:320; Pattern - FINE SPECKLED My mother has symptoms like abdominal discomfort, acidity & flatulence, constipation, piles, joint pain since 15 yrs and itching & skin rash from last 2 yrs. Doctor has suggested that the only possible medication is immediate Steroids and Azathioprine therapy.
2015036 tn?1332997788 It is definitely more common to be "revved up" on steroids, but I've experienced them like you--steroids wipe me out. I actually sleep really well while on the 3 day IV infusion. I don't take steroids for every new symptom but only for those that are really bothersome. As far as my MS symptoms go, the steroids work great for that. I always see an improvement. Maybe not a dramatic one, but an improvement nonetheless. It's good that your symptoms are improving!
Avatar m tn I take an oral steroid - 8.5 mg per day - supplemented by ceretide(similar to advair) 500 - 2 puffs in the morn and 1 at night - and budesonide 160 micrograms - 2 puffs once a day. The thing with oral steroids is that the get absorbed in the body and have been adversely affecting me. I need to get off it, but every time I try to reduce the dosage my asthma tends to get worse. Can anyone offer me any advice regarding this matter?
Avatar m tn I am going to go down to 2 pills a day (6 mg) from the original dose of 9 mg. I will work towards 1 pill and then off. After the first couple of weeks, the diarrhea stopped but I had a painful stomach for 3 hours each morning. My miracle doctor prescribed Benefiber, 2 tsp at bedtime and I am now perfect. I am very worried about what will happen when I go off of the drug completely. I will repost at that time to let you know what happens.

Avatar n tn i am on entocort 3mg 2capsules a day. my liver enzymes were at 649 been on this drug for a month enzymes down to 169 dr. wants to put me on immuran 50mg with the entocort. does this sound good what side of effects can i expect?and what does this help?
456090 tn?1259694837 t know if this helps or not but my Gastro doc prescribed Entocort and Nexium to me. I also took Flagyl the first few weeks. That was an antibiotic. The Entocort is a steroid to help with the inflamation and ulcers and obviously the Nexium is for excess stomach acid. I guess it's working. I've been taking them for a few months now. They are still trying to figure out if I really have Crohns or not. If so, I guess I have a fairly mild form of it.
Avatar n tn My confusion is even if i use these 3 medicines (Ventloin, Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC) why my throat tightness remains to some degree. Does throat tightness(without wheezing)happens from asthma . When having throat tightness a small amount of white mucus always comes. Why steroid inhaler is not working as expected(But Ventolin is working to a great extent).
Avatar m tn My 12 year old cat has had IBD for 10 years. In addition to Cerenia, Buprenex, Reglan 2.5 mg. twice daily, Pepcid 2.5 mg. twice daily, and Prilosec 5 mg. twice daily, she only eats Royal Canin Feline Hypoallergenic food (this is a hydrolyzed soy food) -- this is the only food she tolerates and is only available in dry form. Additionally, every 6 hours she receives 1/8 tsp.
Avatar n tn Can I ask you if you know anything about Entocort? My doctor told me to take this 3x day for 1 wk, 2x day for 1wk & 1x day for 1wk. Then I should see him again for another xray to see if the pill has passed. I am afraid of the affects of this steriod as I also have a stomach ulcer. Anyway, I have two little boys and I can't afford to have to side affects of this medicine on top of the panic I'm feeling over the certainty of another surgery.
Avatar f tn Little is known about the long-term efficacy of inhaled corticosteroids in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We investigated the efficacy of inhaled budesonide on decline in lung function and respiratory symptoms in a 3-year placebo-controlled study of patients with COPD...... Inhaled budesonide was of no clinical benefit in COPD patients recruited from the general population by screening.
Avatar n tn Have the docs suggested the use of a steroid such as budesonide for awhile to see if it can tamp down the symptoms? You also need to worry about taking things such as vitamins and any other pills, so you may want to discontinue them until you can tamp down her digestive response. EE can be very difficult to treat. I'm sorry to hear your daughter is experiencing the problem.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the Crohn's Community Forum. I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs, dx when I was 24 yrs old. Cortisone IS used to treat Crohn's, but now only for short periods, say 3-4 months, because of the side effects of long term use. If the Crohn's is in the terminal ileum area and/or first part of the colon, a newer steroid, Entocort can be used, which does not have the debilitating, and embarrassing, side effects that prednisolone and prednisone do.
Avatar n tn About 13 years ago I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and took Entocort for about 4 years and am still taking Cell Cept. I did have an ultrasound on my thyroid in 2018 and no changes. I moved in 2019 and no longer have an endocrinologist. So, all the changes probably started around 2019. I I do have bloodwork. Everything was in normal range. I can attach a copy of the report tomorrow.
7052683 tn?1392938795 poor little Mia, she is sure having her troubles...lucky tho that she has such a good mommy and is helping her as best she can. Its always such a difficult dilemma to weight the pros and cons the quality of life vs quantity. First of all you need to decide if these medication are helping her or just adding to her troubles. Are you positive its the med that is causing the diarrhea? thats not one of the side effects listed, in fact constipation is. so perhaps the dosage isn't yet just right???
Avatar n tn I have been sffering with colitis now for about 6 months and well have tried everything from salofalk to control it prednisone (60 mg a day) um entocort and now imuran with prednisone and well just can't get it under control. I am seriously considering trying some marijuana to see if maybe it will calm things down or maybe stopp my flare up completely now i know it will relax me but is it really worth a try? I am not sure if i should ? anybody have any experience with this?
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with asthma and was prescribed ventolin and budesonide inhalers. After a few days of suffering side effects and getting much worse I went back to the doctor and he confirmed that I am allergic to budesonide, which he said is quite unusual. He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids.
