I have been having symptoms of a Crohn's flare, severe nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss of 18 lbs in last 6 weeks,steatorrhea, pain in mid chest and right upper quadrant. Had CT scan 2 weeks ago which showed significant inflammation in terminal ileum and old pancreatitis with calcification. Gastroscopy last week showed oesphagitis.Biopsies taken. MRI scan Nov 2007 showed two strictures in small intestine.
I had a month or so on Entecort (budesonide here in England) but had a severe rectal haemorrhage and was hospitalised on IV steroids and needed blood transfusions. I don't think my gastro in England, who prescribed it, at the time realised that Entecort only works in the small intestine, and I had Pan Crohn's Colitis. As I had stopped prednisone to go onto budesonide, I had no protection in the colon, hence the flare.
I started having abdominal pian in September 2009 (sudden onset). I was sent to the ER where apendicidis was ruled out and I was refered to a GI doctor. I've had multiple colonoscopy's, follow-throughs, upper GI's, one pill camera, and CAT scans. Every test showed thickened intestinal walls of the terminal illium, portions of the small intestines and colon. I have been hospitalized twice and placed on solumedrol both times and it has been effective.
s under control with weekly injections of 25 mg methotrexate, daily folic acid and 5 mg daily of the steroid Budesonide, which does not have the serious side effects of prednisolone as it is only metabolised in the small intestine, not the liver.
My own experience has been with numerous gastroenterologists as I have moved around a lot with my and my husband's careers, and have never been advised to consult a "holistic" doctor.
Hi enigma. I suffer from the same type of Crohn's that you do (inflamed ileum). I was diagnosed when I was 33 and am now 41 and at no point have my doctors ever really managed to get it under control. In fact, my G.I. doctor told me it is the worse case of Crohn's that he has ever encountered. I had several misdiagnosis and by the time they had discovered the cause of my stomach pains I weighed 120lbs, my normal weight had 200lbs.
I am regularly using Ventloin, Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC. The only problem is breathlessness arising from throat tightness. I never wheeze in the life. The throat tightness is getting reduced when i take Ventolin. The doctor say i don't have to take ventolin beacause Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC. will prevent the difficulty. But only medicines which seems to be working is Ventolin and Motelukast+LC.
Does Symbicort 80/4.5 (budesonide 80 mcg and formoterol fumarate dihydrate 4.5 mcg) Inhalation Aerosol effect the eyes? Does it raise the interocular pressure if used with known glaucoma?

I've recently been diagnosed with asthma and was prescribed ventolin and budesonide inhalers. After a few days of suffering side effects and getting much worse I went back to the doctor and he confirmed that I am allergic to budesonide, which he said is quite unusual. He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids.
ve had only one head ache in six months due to not taking the Budesonide for a few days. i can breath and smell and am doing so great now. I hope my experience can help you.
Over that period I have tried different combinations of Prednisolone, Budesonide, Salazopyrin, Singulair and Colpermin, all with limited success.
Presently, I am taking Budesonide (9mg daily) and Salazopyrin (150mg daily). Whilst this allows me to function normally (i.e. normal bowel movements) I have discomfort, bloating and cramping all day, every day.
Has anybody ever come through this disease to lead a normal life, or has anyone treated a patient that has done so?

I had Crohn's Disease for 41/2 years and 2 years ago i was also thought to have bilary dyskinesia and at that time I was having a really hard time with my Crohn's and the doctor suggested I have my gallbladded removed to rule out a Crohn's flare since it is an accessory organ and not neccesarily needed....
For the past 3 years, I have been getting recurrent canker sores. They would apprear twice a month. They disappeared only when I was in my secong and third trimester of pregnancy. I did various tests and a colonoscopy to rule out Crohn's disease. I also did the ASCA and ANCA blood tests. My colonsocopy was normal. ANCA was negative but ASCA was positive. I dont have the classic symptoms of Crohn's (diarrhea).

I'm a 31 year old male with Crohn's disease. I have a question regarding the appearance of my anus, and whether this is caused by Crohn's disease. For a while (probably years) I've noticed while cleaning that my anus felt as though it had flaps, or almost lips for a lack of a better term. Recently i decided to take a picture, and this was confirmed. And to my horror, was fairly unattractive. Almost as if my anus is loose or has developed hanging tags.

What I can tell you is that it may be related to something like crohn's, ulcerative colitis, etc. I personally have crohn's, and when it flairs up it hurts like hell. I think you may be on the right track, as these things do have to do with ulcers. Also the fact that you are experiencing constipation which you say is a first is also one of the symptoms to crohn's. I would suggest seeing a G.I. Dr and they may want to do a colonoscopy. Here is a link to research more on them.

I have been taking melatonin supplements for a couple weeks now. The past couple days I had abnormal looking stools, and I started looking around on the internet and found that melatonin can cause abnormal looking stools, and even sometimes trigger symptoms of Crohn's disease. But what I was wondering is this: when it says that it can trigger symptoms of Crohn's disease does it mean it just "mimics" Crohn's disease?
I have been through a lengthy dx for CD. I had a peri-anal fistulotomy with a 6 week seton stitch placement (ouch), followed by several bouts of episcleritis, 70 lb weigh loss, hospitalizations for dehydration and upper rt quad. ab. pain. Even with the weight loss, I am still considered obese at 240 lbs at 5 foot 10. Capsule endoscopy looks good (it took so long to schedule I was asymptomatic at testing), MRI showed no strictures.
I have a dog with IBD and he takes a compounded steroid called Budesonide everyday plus an enzyme supplement called Prozyme and stays on a strict diet of a fish and pot dry kibble. He still flares up every few months with bloody diarrhea which then we start up sulfasalazine 3 times a day which usually calms things down within a few days and after a week or 2 he's back on track.
Hi, my daughter brought home a 6yr old cat 8months ago w/ stomach and intestinal issues. She suffers with gas/diarrhea/ throwing up. My daughter has taken this cat 3 times to the vet-nothing! I have tried many kinds of grain free and sensitive stomachs foods. Some of which were very expensive. We have 2 other cats with no issues. I can't keep changing foods all the time. Help! I am tired of cleaning up after her. Is there a cat antacid?
