Since you are having regular periods with regular cycle lengths (between 25 and 35 days) then you are likely ovulating. Your period can last for up to 7-8 days, and a small amount of brown discharge for a few days at the end of your period is normal. It sounds like you are having some irregular bleeding now. Sometimes women can get some spotting with ovulation -- this is not dangerous and can be normal.

Hello, Spotting between periods may be due to many causes.Clinically,it is called dysfunctional uterine bleeding(DUB).It can be due to genital infections or cervical polyps. They are tiny, harmless growths on the outer surface of the cervix and can bleed after intense sexual intercourse.Stress and anxiety can also cause intermenstrual bleeding.
Is there any reason for concern? I have never had spotting in between periods before. I've done some research on this to find possible causes for the spotting and it's possible it was just pre menstrual shedding and my period is a few days late, however, it also seems to be a symptom of pregnancy, I am not sexually active, however my boyfriend and I attempted sex two weeks ago but due to circumstances (being interupted by the doorbell) couldn't.

I'm 21, and I have spotting between my periods as well. It's perfectly normal!!! Birth control causes you to spot and if you miss a pill or take one at a different time it causes funny things to happen (ie spotting). It's ok to be worried but you shouldn't be. For me, the spotting happens because I'm on Ortho Lo, when I used to be on just Ortho Tricylen, but even then I spotted and it was normal according to my Dr. So you're fine!
s theory is I am in Perimenopause, he ask if I had other symptoms but I don't other then the normal peri stuff; spotting between periods only when I wipe, never a need for a pad, I also have cramping that sometimes goes to my back. My breast always start getting sore after the spotting, so dr. says it is definitely hormonal. Keep in mind you can be in peri 10-12 years before meno. I have only the spotting mood swings sweet cravings crampy, short fused, etc, but NEVER had a hot flash.
This may occur when you are ovulating/mid-cycle. Sometimes early in pregnancy you may have spotting or a brownish discharge at the time your period would normally come.

Also, there could be another culprit for "some" of you. Spotting between periods and/or after periods, etc. use to happen to me too. Found that in my case, it was simply due to my taking a vitamin supplement containing "iron". I found that "every single time" I took an iron supplement or a vitamin containing iron; or, "ate" anything iron rich, I would spot for several days.

I breastfed both children and my periods were never the same again. I've had spotting between periods discharge before periods and everything else unusual. It's all due to hormone fluctuations. On occasion that is due to pregnancy but not normally... stress, life changes, foods such as soy, physical activity and much much more contribute to women having hormonal changes. It's ***** to hear but you can never really put a finger on the problem (I've learned the hard way) until you see a doctor.
My last 2 periods have been very dark brown, some even black. They have no smell, is like a thick liquid, with no pain nor cramping. I got a sonogram/ultrasound done to check for any cysts or abnormalities, and everything is fine. The ultrasound was done to check my ovaries and uterus. I was very scared, and thought many things. But I hope this helps you guys. Both said that menstrual blood should not be a bright red, if it is, there is probably some hemorrhage.

I lost the first one in May 09' due to a blighted ovum. I just turned 6 wks today and have been having brown/dark brown spotting since about 4 1/2 weeks. I have not had any major cramping, just little pinches and pulls here and there. The spotting changes from light brown to very dark brown, and goes from light to heavy and back to light. Today i passed a very small clot about the size of a pencil eraser which was dark brown.
