Avatar m tn It has just been the past 1-2 years that my leg hurts. Not by the screws, although they hurt but I will put up with it, but down the top of my leg along were the rod is. I press on specific areas of Muscle? and it is very tender. I cannot run at all, and dont walk without pain. I have been told repeatedly that the removal is risky and it may not work.
Avatar n tn t heal properly and after six months a rod was inserted. After a year I was back to playing tennis, golf, etc. I had it x-rayed about 1 year ago after a spell of aching. The orthopedist said I could have the rod removed but advised against it. Recently it has started to ache quite a bit. I did drive about 600 miles with few stops and that night it ached almost as much as the night I originally broke it and before the cast was put on. I can hardly put weight on it at times.
Avatar n tn I have seen my surgeon, and he has suggested removing the top screw to maybe ease the tendinitis, and possibly removing the rod for the leg pain. When he suggests these things, he seems very unsure whether they are going to actually help. I was just wondering whether to remove the rod and screw, or just the screw, and what the chances are of the surgery actually helping the pain.
Avatar f tn leading up to days later a “ titanium rod “ being inserted into the broken femur . Avatar f tn (let me apologize in advance if this msg is jumbled, confusing, and my grammar is poor... some of my family members think the TV should be loud enough so the people in the house beside us can hear it) Hi everyone. I'm new to the website but thought it may be a great place to ask my question. Okay, so here's the situation. 8 years ago while crossing the street I was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver.
Avatar m tn Will doctors remove the steel rod in my leg after all this time? Is the steel rod even the problem and if not then what can I do? I am looking for advice on what I can do . Any advice really.
Avatar m tn The doctor put a rod in my leg to help with the break but said that it was a little too long for my leg, and that I would probably have to have it removed. Soon after my leg healed, I was sent to prison and spent 5 years there. While in prison I worked out with passion, I ran, and played sports all day long. I trained with weights, often having up to 405lbs on my back for squats, and 495lbs for deadlifts.... I did have discomfort in my leg. After being released from prison..

Avatar m tn I had a rod put in my tibia after a tib/fib fracture just over a year ago. I still have pain almost constantly. (except at rest) I have tried many things, but I didn't plan on another, the third, surgery to remove the rod. I will gladly do it, however, if the answer to your question is yes! ...Waiting....
Avatar n tn I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed? If so how fast is the recovery and will the pain go away?
Avatar n tn I'm 32 year male, my accident was last year June, 2017. Job accident, broke my tibia and fibula about 2-3 inches above my ankle. Open compound fracture, surgery clean the wound, insert nail rod in tibia with 4 screws to lock, and skin graft on wound site where bone broke skin. After PT I can now walk, climb stairs, ladders, jump from chair and starting to run with a limp, I walk without limp.
Avatar m tn Has anyone faced such a problem as a result of the tip of the rod and would you be able to tell me the advantages of removing the entire rod now that it has been fused to the bones and the implications of keeping it. The rod seems according to x-rays solid and has not broken, but I read some reviews about the possibility of the rod to rust or even break. I would appreciate your feedback on this matter!
Avatar m tn My mom had a fracture on her left leg. It was compound fracture with her leg broken above her ankle She had a steel rod put in her leg from the joint till the ankle. Got an xray done just of her left leg AP & Lateral view. The report is normal except for the 2 points mentioned as below: 1) Fixating devices are seen in situ. 2) Old fracture of distal tibia and fibula are noted. Not able to understand the above points and need to know if they are normal or is it cause of worry. Please help.
Avatar n tn my questtion is im still getting pain at the fracture site and im still walking with quite a heavey limp could anyone tell me how long i will have the limp and the odd nagging pain at the fracture site or will i have this for life? i have a rod and 3 screws in my leg to would it be advised to have these taken out after full bone healing and could this be contributing to the limp and pain.
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar f tn It was a spiral fracture and to fix it a titanium rod was placed in my fibula with pins holding it in place through the ankle and through the knee. I now have numbness on the inside of my lower leg. Should I call my doctor or wait for it to go away? Will it go away.

Avatar n tn 2 years ago, I crushed the bottom of my femur right at the knee and I have a rod on the femur with 5 screws and 7 screws in my knee. The rod is giving me all kinds of pain, not the knee. What could be causing this? Any suggestions.
1196614 tn?1265075773 I just wanted to have an opinion to make sure that I will not have problems in the future with my leg because of the fibula bone is now on that position. If all this was due to the 12 days without the surgery that mean someone did a bad job! Please help!
Avatar n tn I have rods in both femurs, now only my right tibia as well as a wire around my left femur. I really wanted all of the rods out two years ago, since I was only 19 at the time and the car crash I had been involved in (drunk driver hit me) had been only 2 years before that. So the left tibia rod came out as well as all the screws (there were 6)-the screws had been poking out of my skin and rubbing against my shoes and clothes a lot.
Avatar n tn About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
Avatar f tn Hi Mike, How are you feeling? It is nice to see a patient so motivated to help himself. Why you want to think about removal of rods and pins right away. I think you should be planning a step wise approach for your current concern. Firstly you need to see an orthopaedician and evaluate the current problem as whether it is arising from joint or if any nerve compromise is present.
623966 tn?1222194198 Recent xrays show a complete non union of fibula and a partial union of tibia with a very visible fracture line through tibia and about a 40% fill in of calcium. There is a steel rod inserted from knee to ankle with screws. Xray shows the tibia screw protruding into the head of the fibula and lateraly rotating the fibula.
Avatar n tn However, recently he has noticed the rod they put in his leg is pushing against his skin. It seems to sore. This is a quick onset of symptoms. Of course, I would like him to go see a doctor. He has been researching rod removal all day. Do you think this is going to be necessary? Is this a normal course of events for rod insertion? I thnank you in advance for any advice or suggestions.
Avatar n tn I have been 207 pounds at one point but certainly not during the period of the rod placed in my leg and the removal. I think regardless - if you did lose weight it would help with the rod removal and walking much easier than having the extra weight straining on your leg. But then again, if you can't lose it, get it removed. It's the best thing that's happened to me.
