Broken leg in cat

Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg in cat

broken-leg

Avatar f tn Last night we opened our backdoor to find a stray kitty (adolescent male). I noticed he was malnourished and gave him some milk and chicken (all I had for an animal). Then I noticed he was favoring one leg. I think it might be broken! I've called a few places and no one wants to deal with him, of course. They're just going to want to euthanize him instead of help him. So my question is this--- what do I do?!?!?!?!
Avatar m tn This morning our neighbor came over to tell us Jasper, our 5 year old cat, was under the hood of his work truck when he crunk it up. We took him to the vet immediately. He has a broken leg (possibly two broken legs) and may be paralyzed, a broken tail that has to be amputated, a gash on his backside, a gash in his face and possibly a broken pelvis along with possible internal injuries.
Avatar f tn I wanted him seen ASAP because of the broken rear leg. The x-rays showed that the injury was about a month old and that it was already healed. It wasn't just a little break but the femur was actually snapped off. In order to fix it, they'd have to do a surgery that costs over $1500. Or... amputation (around $450- including pain meds). My question is--- do we HAVE to do anything? When we found him he wouldn't walk on the leg and I thought it was a new injury.
Avatar f tn s ever known has been a complete witch but this guy is the sweetest, calmest cat ever. Being in pain with a possibly broken leg is probably why he's so laid back, but hubby seems to like him nevertheless!
Avatar f tn I came home from work to day to discover that my niece had been playing with her new cat, twiggy, a ~6 month old male, not yet neutered; current on shots. She was holding it up over her head and the cat objected and began squirming. As she was putting him down he twisted out of her hands and landed badly. He was limping and meowing in pain. When I first saw him he was very calm, but hiding in the hallway. He allowed me to feel all four of his legs, squeeze along the knee joints and paws.
605060 tn?1220070397 ve seen cats and dogs at the emergency clinic for as little as a minor discomfort of the hind or front leg. Your cat is in obvious pain. A swollen leg, the cat not letting you touch the area and limping is all sign of pain. According to what you've said, the cat might have fallen or got hit by something, and whatever he has in that leg has been progressively getting worse. It might be a broken bone or a bug bite that has now become abcessed.
Avatar n tn I, too, found a stray with a problem. My cat's leg was broken and the vet recommended amputation. They could either surgically create a hip for the cat or amputate it's leg so that the cat could jump and run around!
774189 tn?1235410421 MY DOG ATTACKED MY CAT TODAY AND MY CAT IS LIMPING BUT SHE STILL WALKS ON HER LEG AND WAS CLEANING HERSELF DO YOU THINK SHES GONNA BE OK?
Avatar n tn Tonight the cat started moaning and favouring his back leg like it was broken. Is there any way the 2 could be related, or do you think it is an entirely different stiuation. Thanks in advance, Ryan.
Avatar n tn I hope you have already taken her to the vet, since this could be serious. Loss of leg functioning could be caused by a stroke or blood clots...that happened to one of my cats when she was only 2 years old. The emergency vet thought she had broken a leg, but couldn't find any fractures (this was in the middle of the night over the weekend), the next morning, when she lost functioning of two more legs, she had to be put to sleep. It still makes me cry just thinking about it...
Avatar m tn however that does sound like thats whats going on...if she had broken a hip or leg she would be in tremendous pain when you touched the area....try and have a good look at her paw, is there a tear or something embedded in her pad? a torn nail? if thats the case you will need to keep a watch on incase of infections.. Keep a close watch on her today perhaps that will give you more clues. An xray would be needed if you start to suspect a break. best to kitty, please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn i once took in an injured baby bunny that my cat had gotten ahold of. it had a broken leg and i rushed it to our vet. they had to put the baby down, but i didn't have to pay anything.
1961938 tn?1398718101 Anyways I called to get an appointment and they said they would have to do X-rays to see if there is an infection in the tooth. What are your thoughts about X-rays in the third trimester? I am definitely going to try to see if they can not do them but it doesn't seem like an option and the tooth needs pulled.
Avatar f tn My cat came in yesterday morning with a swollen leg. He is not walking on it and it is huge. I have checked for a stinger and found nothing. Is it ok to give him Children's Benadryl? How long does the swelling last? He is having a hard time getting comfortable.
Avatar f tn Neutered cats become more peaceful. If you don't do this, Beckett will start weeing every where to mark. You won’t like this I'm sure. Fortunately for him and you, he is male, meaning neutering is easier than spaying. Usually the cat is fine the next day, jumping and running up and down. This procedure is, thank God, far from being risky or having negative effects. Your cat will look younger, lazier, just a bit… and much more loving.
Avatar m tn I found her below with only a limp on her back right leg. She had pain in the leg and for a day or two just slept in the bed. After observing her for a couple of day I noticed that she continued to use the litter box (although in pain) continued to eat well and play. Now she even runs around and seems to have her same attitude as before, but she doesn't use her back right leg. It seems that the problem is in her hip.
Avatar n tn It might indicate a strained tendon. If it were a broken bone, she would not walk on the leg at all. When you are looking at her foot, also look at her leg for any possible bites, and also feel her shoulder. So far, it doesn't sound bad. But if you happen to find a bite, get her in to see the vet as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn My kitten I adopted is living in a house with 4 dogs, 2 of them which are very big...and I think that they broke his foot/leg. I talked to a friend, and she said that she could feel popping in her heel when she moved it around, and everytime he jumps off of the counter or bed, he starts moaning really loud. I don't really know exactly what it is that's hurting him, it's been like a month or less since he got it. Do you know what it is?
Avatar f tn My usually active 13 wk old kitten was fine this morning, but tonight is wanting to sleep without eating and is limping on the right front leg. I presume he and our older cat who normally romp throughout the day and night either got rough or the kitten attempted to jump down from too high. He is refusing to eat tonight so I've been giving him liquidized canned food via an eye dropper every hour...two to three eye droppers. To much complaining I might add. He has no fever...
Avatar n tn We had sex -intercourse and oral with condom and and the end he ejaculated on my skin (vaginal area but not inside) and thigh. I had some four day old tiny scabbed over cat scracthes on my leg and had shaved my vagina earlier that night although there were no cuts of sores. Is there a risk from this outside the body contact . Sorry my question mark key is broken.
2083449 tn?1381354708 I am so sorry you are in pain honey. Do you have anyone who can hold the pills for you?
Avatar f tn A few of you asked to be updated on the kitty cat I found (or I should, "Who found us!"). We just got back from the vet. He got vaccinated, medication for an infection in his ears, de-wormer stuff, and x-rays. The x-rays showed a BB pellet lodged in the cat's chest, but that isn't something we have to worry about. But I was absolutely livid inside when the vet told me.
Avatar f tn For the last three days I have had severe swelling in one foot and moderate swelling in the other. I have also been experiencing pain in my hip that is now starting to travel down my leg and also experiencing pain or tightness in the calf. Any clues?
Avatar f tn When I put him down I notice he walks funny. His LEG IS BROKEN. This poor malnurished baby has a broken leg. We have apartments next door and my only thought is that someone threw him off a balcony and he managed to see our light on and somehow got through our privacy fence. So............ I stay up until 3 am deciding what to do.
