Avatar f tn I had surgery that night with the ortho plating the bone and securing with 8 screws. I had some swelling issues with the first cast and was unable to have my foot unelevated at all. If I did, my toes turned blue and I felt an intense swelling in the area of my ankle. I saw the ortho yesterday and had my cast replaced. The surgeon did not spend much time with me and wouldn't let me ask any question.
Avatar n tn Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
Avatar m tn I was told these breaks are pretty serious and if not taken care of you can end up with pain for the rest of your life and have a walking cane.. I dont think you want a brace on your leg so tight it hurts.. You need a soft cast with some room for the swelling. keep it elevated!!!!
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn D ... been there, done that, hate the T.Shirt...
Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar f tn I fractured the lower part of my fibula near the growth plate one week ago, and was in a Splint for 3 days.
Avatar f tn i broke my wrist 3 weeks ago, it has been set, and casted. I thought the swelling would only last a few days, and that my wrist would feel better after it was casted. But 3 weeks out, my fingers are still swollen, i have a lot of pain, i cant use my fingers to hold any thing, and if I move the wrong way, i have shooting pains in my wrist. my fingers are tingly and numb feeling. Is this all part of the healing process? Just not sure what to expect, any insight would be great..
Avatar f tn please what cause swelling of leg after removing the cast and pain? Please what is the solution... Thanks.

Avatar m tn Its possible you were put in a "back slab" cast which is soft on one side. This was done to my broken wrist to allow for swelling immediatey after the accident. I then was called back to have a full fibreglass cast on after ten days or so. The reason for going back for the full cast is that as the swelling reduces the cast then may become too lose to support the bones and thus could allow for poor healing.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar m tn Hoping for input. I fell off a ladder about 4 weeks ago about 10 feet. From what my orthopaedic said, I have numerous breaks in my heel and talus bones, but nothing that surgery can do to help me. My swelling is almost as bad as it was from day 1, he keeps telling me this normal. He said I'll be on crutches for 3-4 months and luckily I have a boot and not a cast. Is all this normal?
Avatar n tn I broke three fingers on my right. Ihave three pins in my little finger, three pins in my ring finger, my middle finger is also broken but didn't require pins. They are all broken in the first bone right above the knuckle.I am very concerned about the mobility of my hand after the pins come out. Next week is my surgery to have them removed.
1196614 tn?1265075773 s my story , i had a broken tibia and fibula as well i was trying tio help a female from getting beaten by his boyfriend , it was slippery oitside my right leg went forward and my left leg went backwards and my big ***( lol ) landed on top of my ankle and distored my ankle and broke my tibia and fibula , i went to the hospital where i stayed two nights then on monday i had to go see the bone doctor at the other hosiptal and told me that your fracture was a bad one .
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.
Avatar n tn The doctor told me that I needed to start walking on my leg with the cast on but it causes extreme pain in my ankle and in my leg where it was injured. The cast seems to put a lot of pressure on the area of bruising. I also find it impossible to keep my leg out straight when trying to walk on it. How long should I expect for healing time for this sort of crushing injury. I had a lot of swelling and bruising at the site along with my ankle and foot swelling.
Avatar f tn The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!! I have a tubular bandage now and obviously am still in a great deal of pain. Do I need a second opinion. Regards.
Avatar f tn I broke my calcaneous, and now have numbness in my leg and swelling. It's also a little red. Is this normal? I have seen a surgeon and he put me in a boot cast.
Avatar f tn suffered broken ankle in May 2010. Had surgery with plate and screws to fix. 2 weeks no weight bareing, 8 + weeks in camwalker boot - weight bearing as tolerated. Then moved to right ankle element brace and cane. Have completed 2 sessions of PT. Have chronic pain i ... [More] n foot/ankle with every step I take. Both my foot/leg are still swollen and discolored. Taking pain meds daily. Recently returned to work (4 hours per day sitting).
Avatar m tn So later that day I get a cast on. All the doctor did was just squeeze the broken spot around very softly and then just put a cast on (using those plaster of paris type of substances). It was a half cast - just the palm side was casted upto the elbow. It took around a week or two before the doctor removed that and put a fullcast on. And after a few more weeks the doctor took that cast off and said I was free to go.
Avatar n tn ll need to go in a cast for 6 more weeks. That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar m tn Ok, so I had surgery about two weeks ago and anyways I had to have a cast put on my right leg from the foot to the knee. It became unbearably itchy and so I stupidly grabbed a spatula handle to shove down and scratch my leg. I knew not to put anything that could cause a cut, as to not cause infection; but I think I may have disturbed the material (gauze?) inside the cast and it's bunched up where it feels like a rock is being stabbed against my leg.
