Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg cast and

Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? The regular cast is only continued if your doctor feels that healing is not complete, and if he feels it complete then you are advised to use crutches. The usual period for healing is around 6-8 weeks, but lower leg fractures take a little more to recover. The initial one week period is also taken into account. Follow up is advised every two weeks to see whether alignment is proper or not. In case of misalignment found at any point of treatment surgery might be necessary.
Avatar n tn i was just wondering it has been about a month and a half and accordin to x-rays and tainers ppl tell me ill be able to get my cast off in a week or two what can i do to help heal faster (what can i eat or drink that would help) how long will rehab take, and what kind of things will i need to do
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar n tn That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn I have a leg cast for a tibia and fibula fracture, yesterday I hit the cabinet with my cast when my crutch got stuck on the rug I went to the hospital I got casted at for the leg, and they said it looks broken, I see the os tomorrow, what will they do for my big toe!
Avatar f tn In 2007 I badly broke my leg (my toes were touching my knee bad), I was in a cast for almost my entire seventh grade year and for the first four or so months I had to be in a wheelchair with the cast up to my thigh. I started to be able to move around really well after the first month and about two or so months before they put me in a boot i was able to jump around my house on one leg for very long distances and then eventually walk around on my cast.
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.
Avatar n tn The muscle of my sole is very stiff and this results in my firsy and espacially the second toe gets very stiffed and bended. I am making some massage and exercises given by PT. What else I can do in addition to the above to have these toes become flexible again. Also I was playing karate before the injury I would like to know how long time I need to get back to this sport, even if in the beginning I am not doing any contacts.

Avatar f tn Now he is shivering, hot/cold, running a fever and the leg is hot to the touch and he complains the back of the knee is increasing in pain even with ibprofen. ER tonigt or wit for morning and call orthopedist?
Avatar m tn Alberts leg was operated on, pinned and had a large cage put over his leg, as aposed to a cast to allow the doctors to continue the work on his wound. 2 weeks after this surgery, Albert was asked to put his weight on the leg to see how it feels. He was assisted by nurses to his feet, and then allowed to stand on his own. This broke the leg for a second time, as the bones were not yet strong enough to hold his weight. So, back into surgery to have it re-set.
Avatar m tn I broke my fibula in two places above my ankle and the mallelor of my tibula. I had surgery three weeks ago. One week after my surgery, they removed the "soft" cast and put me in a boot with crutches and compression socks to help with the swelling. For those above who were asking about swelling - I believe you can buy these socks at any pharmacy. They also recommended to ice the surgical area..as well to keep any swelling down.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to fix my broken radius and ulna, a plate was inserted and it's been in a half cast for 2 months. That arm has excessive hair growing on the broken area...is this because of the tensor/fiberglass cast covering or a result of the surgery and the plate being in my arm? Is there anything I can do to reduce the hair growth?
Avatar m tn The nose end of the vehicle landed on her right lower leg, crushing the Tibia and Fracturing the Fibula. She was Med-Flighted the 40+ miles to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in Alabama. I would have preferred that she had been flown to UAB in Birmingham, Alabama but she was losing a lot of blood, so good thinking on behalf of the Med Flight Crew. Anyway, she spent 8 hours in the Pediatric Trauma/ER before seeing a surgeon...
Avatar m tn ll be on crutches for 3-4 months and luckily I have a boot and not a cast. Is all this normal?
Avatar f tn I fractured the lower part of my fibula near the growth plate one week ago, and was in a Splint for 3 days.

Avatar m tn Hello, I recently broke my arm. I lost control and fell off the ATV I was riding. My body as a whole (230 lbs) landed on my right upper arm/bicep area. I went to the ER and they did x rays, it was said that I had breaks in 3 possible areas (humerus or just humeral head or both, the radius and something else I believe but can't recall at the moment) They put a soft cast on me, wrapped it up in gauss and put on a sling.
Avatar n tn To make a long story short, after walking around for a week, i finally had it x-rayed and found out I had broke my tib/fib/ankle - spent six weeks in a cast after that, then PT and to this day I still have horrible rproblems with my ankle. So please, don't feel that it can't be broken just because you can put some weight on it.
Avatar n tn hey, I am in a similar situation - I broke 3 metacarpals in the same hand 5 weeks ago, I got the cast off yesterday and it looks so messed up - still swollen and all just out of shape. How was your recovery? I would be interested to know...
Avatar f tn And the hellish anxiety I completely understand. It felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and take off running and screaming. Fortunately it started to get better, and after the ativan was gone I just dropped it and didn't think about asking for more. Now, I'm not in a long leg cast and can't imagine what it must be like. I do have a broken left knee cap and cracked tibia from a work injury last June. Fell off a ladder.
Avatar n tn I did drive about 600 miles with few stops and that night it ached almost as much as the night I originally broke it and before the cast was put on. I can hardly put weight on it at times. It also seems to ache more after I have walked on soft or hilly ground. Usually walking on hard surfaces doesn't cause a lot of pain. I can play golf, get it the car and reide home and once I get out of the car it starts to hurt. It usually then clears up in about 15 minutes to 1/2 hour.
Avatar f tn i broke my wrist 3 weeks ago, it has been set, and casted. I thought the swelling would only last a few days, and that my wrist would feel better after it was casted. But 3 weeks out, my fingers are still swollen, i have a lot of pain, i cant use my fingers to hold any thing, and if I move the wrong way, i have shooting pains in my wrist. my fingers are tingly and numb feeling. Is this all part of the healing process? Just not sure what to expect, any insight would be great..
