Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn suffered broken ankle in May 2010. Had surgery with plate and screws to fix. 2 weeks no weight bareing, 8 + weeks in camwalker boot - weight bearing as tolerated. Then moved to right ankle element brace and cane. Have completed 2 sessions of PT. Have chronic pain i ... [More] n foot/ankle with every step I take. Both my foot/leg are still swollen and discolored. Taking pain meds daily. Recently returned to work (4 hours per day sitting).
Avatar f tn I can also put weight on the foot without the boot with no issue, as the strength is now back in that leg/foot. I can also walk on it without the boot with no issues but stiffness and inability to bend the front ball of my foot yet. I take vitamin C+D and I do not smoke. I am 24, in good health as I have no problems. Is it strange for it to take 10 weeks before I start physio? Everywhere I read it says 6 weeks for this type of fracture to heal, even with surgery.
Avatar n tn My 10 week check x ray had the rod broken where a month prior the rod was ok.I was off my leg with a boot on and put no pressure on my leg. What type of force could cause such a thing?I have no pain and did not fall or was not in a accident .Please explain any causes.Thank you.
Avatar m tn My wife broke her small toe yesterday and we went to the doctor for x-rays, treatment, etc...Currently her leg is cold to the touch, from the knee down, but very minor color change. I think it may be due to her leg being elevated but doesn't really seem too likely. Is this normal for a broken toe? Should we go to the emergency room or wait for our next appt on Monday?
Avatar f tn I had full casts to the knee for 8 weeks, and then switched to a cam walker air cast/boot. I will have the cam walker/boot for 6-8 more weeks and then swtich to a brace, no more crutches and a cane. Union usually takes 3 to 4 months. There can be a delay in union and the fracture can take upto 18 months for union.Delay in union is thought to occur because the talus has a poor and fragile blood supply. Avascular necrosis is it's self not a big problem.
Avatar m tn The result was a double compound fracture of my right leg. Both major bones were broken and exposed about an inch about the ankle joint. Fortunately for me, when I arrived at the hospital, one of the best orthopedic surgeons in Las Vegas was on call. Two years, two surgeries (about 8 hours worth), a bone graft and six months in a wheel chair I am walking much better than I could have expected. My question; I generally wear softer soled shoes ( walking tennies, etc.
Avatar m tn I broke my tibula and fibula back in march, wore a hard cast for almost 8 weeks, was put in a walking boot for 6 more weeks, but I have been walking some without the boot in my sneakers, will this hurt the ankle area it is still swollen and tight around that area, just don't want to wear the walking boot as it is hard to go up steps with it on verses my shoe,, foot hurts the same with the boot or shoe on while walking ..
Avatar f tn My right foot slid and remained against a balluster while my body twisted. Immediately I knew I had broken my leg and wondered if I also broke my ankle. The fallresulted in a high fibula spiral fracture on my right leg. X-rays showed no widening of the mortise joint between the tibia and fibula and I was advised to not use a boot after ten days and to walk without crutches as soon as I could bear weight.
Avatar n tn Surgery for broken ankle was 1/28/19. Now 6 weeks later and in a boot for 3 weeks the pain is not getting better. I can't put my foot flat enough to sit right in the boot so my ankle area is sitting at the smallest part of the boot. After 15 minutes the pain is so bad I am forced to take the boot off. My doctor is dismissive and says O that is normal. After me telling her this she wants me to start light weight on the boot now.
Avatar f tn I immediately went to the doctor for x-rays. The x-rays did not show that the ankle was broken. When I left the doctor's office, I barely made it to the car, it hurt so bad and I absolutely couldn't walk on it. The doctor told me to get crutches, ice and elevate it for a few days and if it didn't get better, call him and he would refer me to an orthopedic doctor. Well, I've did the treatment and have been using crutches since the injury.
Avatar m tn I rolled my ankle while jogging 4 weeks ago. Diagnosed with fractured distal fibula. Wearing a "boot" since 3 days after the accident. Most of my swelling is gone. Doc said okay to put weight on effected leg. I quit using crutch last week. Bought an ankle wrap last night and walked for 30 minutes this morning without the boot. Stiffness but no real pain. I would like to get back to exercise as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn rest all the bones are fine and there is no displacement of any bones and no bones are broken also . so wat should i do ? shall physio therapy help in heeling now as i dont have any pain and my swelling is also getting little better . pls let me know how long will it take for the crack to heel as i dont feel any pain there and no pain while bearing weight . wat should i do now as m in west africa and i its hard to find efficient doctors over here .
Avatar n tn That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar f tn Dear all, I have a chip fracture lateral of anterior calcaneous and I am in a cam boot . It has been two weeks since the injury and I need to keep my leg elevated, since if I put it down for 2 minutes , the blood pools in my foot and it feels sore and pretty congested with blood. I am having some neuropathic pain At night( pins and needles, spasms, and some tremor) in my foot. I was put on Endep , Endone, and clexane to prevent DVTs.
Avatar n tn I broke my heel 8 months ago, i am 58 years old. I cannot walk without severe pain. Should i try walk with the pain ? will it heel faster if I push it?Should i still wear the "moon" boot or lace up boots? i am a veteran and dont get the best med help. My dr. says it has done all the healing it is going to do. What do i do now? It is constantly throbbing with pain. I am burnt out on pain meds and sometimes the increase the pain. PLease advise!
Avatar f tn s own without surgery and put me in a walking boot with no weight bearing for the next three weeks. At 4 weeks post break I went back in for follow up with the OS, he didn't do another xray but told me to start weight bearing and to take the boot off in two weeks and walk on it. Which put me at about 6 weeks post break, with two weeks left before i was to see him again.
Avatar n tn Im still not walking, or putting any pressure on it, and the doctor said that it is healing very slowly.. when i take off my boot brace, my foot is very crooked when it is flat on the ground. the doctor doesnt seem to know what is wrong. he said that the ex-ray looks straight, and everything looks good. it looks like my foot is just flopping over to the side.. i am concered that this will always be like this.. does anyone know if this is normal? please get back.
Avatar f tn Some google searches on boot/gait problems show that sometimes leg length can change due to wearing a boot. Also, can cause back/hip pain. My symptoms are sort hip 24/7, by end of day pain sometimes moves to my lower left back. It is not getting better and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest something else. Also, I'm new to this forum, do the docs respond on these questions in addition to members sharing? I'm wondering if anyone else has experience this type of situation.
Avatar f tn t hurt me, but I knew immediately my ankle was broken as it was swollen. I have some of the posts about it and it scares me that it may not unite. What is the general outlook for this type of fracture?
Avatar n tn my 12 yr old daughter broke her tibia 5 days ago ,doc took xrays and said a broken tibia, but only gave her a air boot cast and was told to stay off, fine with all that, but now sunday night here one day before she goes back to doctors ,she vomiting with very high fever ,104,then the chills,im thinking emergancy room tonite,i dont know, how concerned should i be ,worried parent........
Avatar n tn I managed to get out after it tore my boot in half. I had amazingly had not broken bones and no torn tendons. The doctor said I shredded the "sleeves" around the tendons. I also had pretty bad laceration across the top of my foot that took 2.5 months to close and I am at 3.5 months now. I had an MRI at the hospital and then surgery 30 hours after it happened. The doctor operating was a podiatrist. Since then I have seen him twice a week with weekly xrays and a nerve test last month.
Avatar f tn I never returned to this site after the second posting because I found a fantastic group on Facebook called broken ankle/foot/leg recovery -on a quest for normal which was a godsend to me and still is. If you are still out there and want to connect with a great group going through the same things as you and you are on fb, find us and request admission, its a closed group. Hope you are doing well. I am just weaning out of boot into shoes....
Avatar f tn But now developed calf pain after finally wearing regular (comfortable) shoes to work vs. THE BLUE BOOT. I am going to assume that I am overusing/stretching tendon in my calf as I still over compensate for my weak foot. I am hopeful that I can get back to yoga this weekend. I have a ridiculously high deductable, so no medical care beyond an emergency room x-ray to rule out a broken foot. I was unable to put any weight on my foot for aprox. two weeks.
Avatar f tn Take vit d and calcium to help with healing. You may end up in a walking boot if it isnt fully broken. I normally have my pts out of casts by 4 weeks and into a walking boot for a few weeks. 10 weeks you can't see the break. Each dr is different and so is each pt.
