Common Questions and Answers about Brief psychotic disorder medication

psychotic

Avatar f tn It's hard for us to tell without knowing more details of your condition. A person suffering from depression can have symptoms of psychosis in severe cases. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_depression#Symptoms_and_signs If you have these symptoms you may need antipsychotic medication regardless of the correct underlying diagnosis. You may need antidepressants as well. Find a good doctor that you trust and follow his/her guidance. We can't choose our own diagnosis.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between Bipolar disorder with psychotic features and Schizoaffective disorder? And which one sounds closest to what i am experiencing, if it's possible to answer?
Avatar f tn t say I know what specifically causes it in the brain (nor can ANYONE or it would be CURED), but I do know how it is classified and I also know the unfortunate kind of misdiagnosing that goes on with unskilled psychiatrists and doctors whom have never seen this illness before. Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder because reality testing is lost, however, reality testing remains during DP/DR episodes.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
Avatar f tn He could be bipolar, but it could also be caused by stopping the medication. I was put on an anti-psychotic to help assist my anti-depressant, and when I abruptly stopped taking it I went all sorts of weird (and that was with just two weeks of taking it). I was happy and angry at the same time, couldn't sleep properly, just really didn't give two about anything around me or about how my actions were affecting others.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar f tn It could also take some time to find the medication which is right for her because not every medication works the same and as effectively for every single person but chances are that one of them will work for her eventually. It could be bipolar disorder with psychotic features like ILADVOCATE said or some psychotic disorder since 120 conditions can have psychosis as a symptom.
728480 tn?1312059930 Could a personality disorder answer many queries about someones mental state saying the personality covers everything ? etc depressed (someones experiences repressed in memory) seeing things (imagination developed through isolation) not connecting with others (personality non human compatable) ?
Avatar n tn He has been seen by a neurologist, psychiatrist and developmental therapist and they came together and diagnosed him with over 10 different criteria meeting ADHD, Opositional Defiant Disorder, Anxiety, Language Disorder, Aspergers, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Seperation Disorder, Mood Disorder, Borderline Disorder, Multiple Complex Disorder and Psycosis.
Avatar f tn Before my current recovery I had full blown mania and also had psychotic episodes (which need not go with it, I have schizoaffective disorder but there is also bioplar with psychotic features where psychosis only occurs during mood changes, in schizoaffective disorder its all the time). Things were disturbing and extreme and I needed medication as soon as I had my first psychotic break.
915369 tn?1355314810 I was seeing a psychiatrist for a few years but she stopped seeing me after diagnosing me with borderline personality disorder. She also diagnosed me with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive features. I was originally thought to have bipolar disorder and psychosis NOS but to be quite honest I'd prefer the diagnosis of borderline seeing as this way I don't need to take medication.
Avatar f tn Depakoate is a mood stabilizer. Zoloft is an anti-depressent. Seroquel is an antipsychotic and I believe by psychiatric standards that is a subclinical dose (when I was on it 300 mg. was where it started working). Not sure what "the pill to calm her nerves" is? You mean an anti-anxiety medication? Although only a psychiatrist can determine medication dosages and which medication to use I'd suggest you inform yourself.
Avatar f tn She prescribed me a anti-psychotic. I heard so many horrible things about this type of medication, like developing permanent neurological problems. I read these horrible stories about doctors prescibing it to infants, why would a baby need a anti-psychotic? I feel like they just give these medications to anyone without a proper diagnoses. I feel like the presription was inappropriate. This is the only doctor I can see because I have no insurance and she is the only state doctor available.
Avatar f tn My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
1256303 tn?1291752568 My second question is how do I (and of course, my psychiatrist) differentiate between whether I am bipolar with psychotic features or schizo-affective? I definitely have the cycles of mania and depression, starting about three years ago, would have auditory and visual hallucinations when severely depressed. Recently with this batch of mania, I have begun to have the auditory hallucinations too, as well as visual. I also am having some problems with disorganized thoughts and speech and delusions.
Avatar f tn ILADVOCATE is right about the blood work. Before I was diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, they tested me for all kinds of crap like with MRIs and tests for syphilis and blood deficiencies and such.
603015 tn?1329862973 And even when I was completely off medication I always knew I had schizoaffective disorder and there are some people who are on a full dose of medication and do not know that they need it or what its for. During a full psychotic break a person's reality testing is lost. During milder episodes of psychosis, some ability to understand the perception of the real world can disappear and depending on what is going on a person can also be paranoid.
Avatar n tn This scares me into thinking that adding more medication might make whatever this disorder is to become that much worse. Any advice guys?
728480 tn?1312059930 But their fears are realistic. A person with paranoia is psychotic. Their fears are delusions. They realistically would not happen. They think someone will persecute them or "people are after them". For social phobias people are overly nervous about social performance or everyday events. Two totally different issues. A lot of people experience social anxiety. If its extreme it can be part of anxiety disorder. Paranoia is part of schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders.
774805 tn?1235948571 yes antipsychotic and called abilify in ireland and Us.
569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
Avatar f tn i am taking anti-psychotic medications which seem to exacerbate my symptoms (they have neurological side effects). However, when i was a small child i had problems with pacing, sitting on the ground and pushing and rocking back and forth, and sitting on my butt and bouncing on the bed to the point that i broke beds and couches until recently. i have also had a habit of hand-clenching and have hurt my wrists several times from doing it.
