Common Questions and Answers about Breast pain when nursing

breast

Avatar f tn I never had any pain or trouble. Plan on breast feeding my second. I know a lot of people who did have trouble though. Everyone is different.
Avatar f tn You sound engorged. Try a warm washcloth on your breast before you start nursing to help you let down and then ice when you're done nursing. I've heard other things too like refrigerated cabbage leaves but I know that one can actually inhibit supply in addition to helping ease engorgement.
374593 tn?1257879950 So i am 29 weeks pregnant, and have had an embarrassing pregnancy symptom the last few weeks - breast leakage- esp out of one of my breasts.. anyhow i just bought some nursing pads today.. But my question is does breast size change much from this point of pregnancy as compared to after pregnancy when breastfeeding? I want to have everything i can in order before our little girl gets here, but not sure what size nursing bra to get - the same size i am now/ bigger/smaller?
Avatar n tn I started having breast pain on the left side while nursing my second child. My breast seemed to not be expressing the milk well--just one or two streams. I did all the treatments for clogged milk ducts/mastitis, but nothing really helped. The pain would come and go, but my breast never expressed like it had with my first baby. My left breast became noticably larger than my right. I thought the pain and swelling would go away after I stopped nursing/pumping.
10007886 tn?1413287174 I woke up last night practically screaming because I hit my breast and the pain was unbearable! Now this pain is back, just putting a shirt on is killing my breasts & nipples. My breasts started leaking this week, could this be why they hurt so bad?
Avatar f tn Ftm and my son was born two days ago, he loves to eat and breast feeds all the time. I get these clearish bumps on the nipple after he is finished and they are really tender. What can I do to ease the pain and bumps and it still be ok for him to eat?
1453524 tn?1295627371 Has anyone here had immense breast pain along with the jumble of other symptoms. It almost feels like after giving birth?
676912 tn?1332812551 t be surprised if her nursing session are even shorter after a year - I have read that when nursing a toddler, the milk is smaller in amount but is denser in fat and nutrition - made for the quick snacks that busy toddlers do - so don't panic that you are losing your supply. And, if your supply does decrease some, you can supplement with milk. Finally, about the sippy cup - my son did the exact same thing until someone suggested I try the Nuk EZ cup.
349463 tn?1333571576 I'm wondering when I should get nursing gowns, bras, and tops? I know I'll need at least one gown for the hospital and a bra. I'llbe packing my bag a month early the first week of August (since ds was born ta 37 weeks). Anyhow when are you guys going to be shopping for this stuff and how much do you buy? Should I stock up before the baby is born or go after?
Avatar f tn Hot pack or cold ice pac to release the pain. Before nursing and after nursing . If you don't want to breastfeed call your doctor its a shot he will inject into your boobs to dry the milk up. It doesnt hurt so its an option.
Avatar f tn I didn't have pain and I don't get pain. But after nursing my oldest daughter my right is a whole cup size bigger. I was hoping it would correct itself once we were done nursing. Or once my youngest nursed. No such luck....almost 11 years (sept my oldest will be 11) later and still lop sided lol. It was probably my fault though....I didn' know when I was nursing my first, that you always start on the same side you left off on.
Avatar f tn I'm going to be honest with you, I think you should be able to breast feed your child anywhere, BUT find a private, quite spot where the baby and you will not be disturbed and not have the breast exposed for all to see. Breast feeding is necessaryand bonding with your infant, but if done outside of the home, it should be done privately, tastefully and appropriately and not have a breast exposed. Many places, store, etc, have rest rooms, nursing area, etc.
Avatar f tn when first born they dont need very much at a time when it comes to colostrum because of all the nutrition in it ... my son ate like every hr to two hrs when i breast fed ..
Avatar n tn There are many possible explanations for breast pain. The most common cause of breast discomfort is cyclical pain or hormone related pain. Breast cancer is not usually painful. Without evaluation, we cannot speculate on what might be causing your pain. As your pain is not really breast specific, you may want to revisit this with your doctor if it continues.
Avatar f tn It started in the last few months of nursing my first child, continued after nursing, during my second pregnancy and again during nursing my second child. A few months back upon weening my second child the pain in this area became much more intense and then returned to the "normal" level upon completion of nursing. I have had two ultrasounds...the first was inconclusive as I was still nursing and all they could see were the milk ducts, however, in the second they fould a cyst.
Avatar f tn I will be using an electric one. Nursing twins is gonna be a pain lol. I heard some hospitals will lend them to you? But still doing research on that. They are expensive for their really good ones. And this is my last pregnancy. Also heard wic lends them out too. Manual ones are a pain in the butt and totally useless lol.
661399 tn?1225371269 many women breast feed and suppliment with pumped milk, if your baby is thriving then just keep it up, breast milk gets more established by 3 or 4 weeks, keep giving it a good chance and all will come out just fine.
Avatar n tn I have had severe breast pain in my right breast for about a month. It feels like I am nursing a baby ( which I have not done in 12 years). The Doc sent me in for a mammo and Ultrasound which showed microcalcifications. "Come back in 6 months". I have NEVER had sore boobs ( except while nursing). This literally came on overnight and I can't endure this pain for 6 more months!!!! Do calcifications hurt? Do I need to do something else? I am 40 and otherwise feel great.
Avatar f tn My breasts grew a lot more in pregnancy than they did when breastfeeding. I'd vote for the size you are now. If you get a regular bra that has relatively low or stretchy cups (like even a running bra) you might find that you don't need a nursing bra. I had one nursing bra, but I wore other bras also, and didn't find it less convenient to use a regular bra when nursing. The darn nursing bra had irritating little straps and flaps and clips.
Avatar f tn When did everyone start "leaking"? my left boob is leaking and it hurts so bad. :(( but my right one isn't? Is it normal for one boob to leak and not the other? I'm completely clueless!
280369 tn?1316702041 I have been pumping my right and nursing him on the left only to draw it out. Warm compresses and hot showers feel so good. No nipple pain or pain when BFing. It's frustrating! I hope it goes away soon. I have a bad fever, and just feel like the flu. No fun! I can't function.
2137220 tn?1340741325 Also keep in mind when your milk comes in your breast will engorge quiet s bit so dont get one that's fits snug now. With my first i bought all mine a size bigger than i was and they fit tightly when my milk came in.
Avatar f tn The only things ull really need r a comfortable nursing bra, lansinoh ointment, breast pads - not that ull be leaking milk or nothing but to protect the bra from getting ointment all over it. I highly doubt ull be producing much milk during ur stay in the hospital, so don't be disappointed when hardly nothing comes out. It's once u get home or the day after that ur milk may begin to flow in abundance. Just sayin. My description above is probably the more likely scenario..
Avatar n tn Yesterday, i found a lump on the right side of my right breast while breastfeeding. Its seems quite hard & immovable. There is no pain or redness however, I have a 4 mth old baby & breast feed him regularly ( every 1 to 2 hrs, depending on the demand ). I ignored it in the beginning thinking that it could be a clogged milk duct (though i din't understand how that could be possible considering the frequent feeds & the fact that the rest of my breast felt really empty).
Avatar m tn I have had a thick white nipple discharge coming from my left breast on and off for approximately one year along with itching, deep breast pain, and a light colored nipple rash. It generally comes out only when squeezed, although sometimes I will notice a tiny bit on my nipple without expressing it. Four years ago after I gave birth I had a terrible case of thrush and that breast pain was the same as what I am feeling now, only I am no longer nursing.
Avatar n tn My husband and I are thinking of getting pregnant. One thing I'm worried about are my breast. I know it maybe a chance that I can't breast feed. I have one breast that is really incredibly sore even after a year after the surgery. I haven't had a baby before and I know my breast will get larger. I'm afraid they will get bit like before, I was a 36G now I'm a 34D. Do your breast go back down after having the baby even if you don't breast feed? Any advice would be great.
5252119 tn?1365603354 He is 7 months old. When he stops breastfeeding will he go through withdraw? His Dr when he was 4 weeks old said he could if I stopped suddenly and than at 4 months said he wouldn't if I stopped. I could stop whenever. I don't plan on stopping until he weans himself but I would like to know if he will go through withdraw if I stop suddenly and if he weans. Also why would he at 4 weeks old and not at 4 months old if I would of stopped suddenly?
