Breast milk supply when pumping

Common Questions and Answers about Breast milk supply when pumping

milk

Avatar f tn yep stress can decrease the amount of milk your body makes, try increasing your fluid intake and also pump more to get your supply back, if your just pumping, its also quite hard to keep supply up so you may find that you have to increase the number of times your pumping anyway :)
Avatar n tn I've heard that breastfeeding regularly works better than the pump to improve supply. It's still early, keep trying. Your milk supply should kick in soon. Some women also take a supplement called milky which supposedly helps.
741877 tn?1265950200 i started pumping breast milk when hanna was 4 days old....
3588173 tn?1357317184 Will my supply dry up if im only pumping every 3 hours during the day n not getting up at night to pump?
Avatar f tn t the right forum but I feel more comfortable asking questions here...I had my daughter on the 9th and at first I had a really good milk supply where my breast would become engorged every two hours if I didn't pump or feed regularly....and I was pumping 2/3 ounces from each breast every time.....now I can hardly get an half an ounce :(....I try to have my daughter on my breast every two hours but it seems like she gets so irritated because nothing is coming out....
Avatar f tn I would not recommend pumping before your milk supply comes after the baby is born it could cause you to go into preterm labor. I'm having my second and after my first I never stopped lactating even when I stopped breastfeeding. I still would leak collosum (don't know if that is spelled right) especially when he would cry.
Avatar f tn Then she will continue to suck and get breast milk. Pumping helps to increase milk supply and you could pump and feed while you transition.
136689 tn?1419580447 Hey ladies just wondering if there is anyway to increase milk supply besides pumping, I'm not feeling that full feeling anymore and blayde seems to have to suck a bit more than usual to stimulate me to let down, and i usually can get 150mls out of both breast after feeding but today could only get 50mls.
3129009 tn?1344190733 Yes. You need to pump at least every three to four hours at night or you won't have enough milk for your babies. Breastfeeding is supply and demand, if you aren't demanding, your breasts won't supply. My son was in the nicu for a week and I remember how exhausted I was. He's seven weeks old now and still exclusively breastfed. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I breast fed my daughter and I always had extra to put in the fridge. I just had to pump at the time she usually had to feed and I kept producing alot of milk.
Avatar f tn I have been pumping and storing breast milk for my princess and it seams like the amount is slowing down what can I do to get it back up I do not want to give her formula at all!
Avatar f tn Can wearing a sports bra to bed hurt my milk supply?!!!! They are so comfy to wear to bed!!!
Avatar f tn My baby was in the nicu and got used to using bottles and gets too frustrated to wait for my milk when breast feeding so he pulls away so I just pump and feed him using bottles but throughout the day my output is low and my stock in the fridge is running low, what can I do to quickly boost my supply?
7845638 tn?1395841467 and a breast feeding consultant will advise you to wait 6-8 weeks before trying to pump because if you do it early on, it can make your body produce too much milk. Milk production is all supply and demand..what your baby is drinking is what your body will supply. It's amazing!!
Avatar f tn You can give formula while pumping to breast feed but like others said it will be hard to keep up milk supply. Make sure to get the right pump, my first wouldnt latch so I had to pump but I lost my milk by 8 weeks and had to supplement with formula the whole time. Turns out I didnt have the right type of pump and didnt do it enough. I thought I would have problems having a baby breastfeed but my son did and I actually found pumping more awkward.
8489354 tn?1405627762 s have to work for the milk when nursing and bottle feeding is no work and they get frustrated n refuse breast if u start too early. However, I did start pumping after 2 weeks to help my milk supply increase. I just waited after 30 days to introduce bottle.
10720243 tn?1415582269 Nothing has been more depressing than going from making 10-12oz on average to barely pumping 4oz. My baby is only 2 weeks old. I don't understand how my milk supply has run out so fast. I want to cry. I am mostly pumping because my daughter has the hardest time latching. And bottle feeding is a lot easier due to schedules. Do any of you already moms have any tips to up your milk production?
Avatar f tn m pumping every 2hrs and drinking plenty of water. Does anyone have any suggestions to increase my milk?
1209036 tn?1299178657 There are some supplements such as fenugreek and blessed thistle that are also supposed to help boost supply. You can also try pumping more frequently, such as every two hours or so. When a baby breadtfeeds, they have cluster feeds constantly as often as every hour or less. This helps to signal to your body as well to produce more. I'm not sure about pumping much beyond this since I rarely use mine, but there are many others who have done it that im sure will respond. Good luck.
Avatar f tn It's not recommended that you express breast milk regularly before delivering baby. If I were you I'd be questioning my midwife. Expressing breast milk can put you into preterm labor as it releases oxytocin which causes uterine contractions. Also it can make it so you don't develop a good supply after baby is born.
Avatar f tn I was told to start pumping to help my milk supply come in and I guess I over did it and now I have an over supply idk how to slow it down anyone know?
4437866 tn?1388119624 Pacifiers – If you use a pacifier a lot when you are together you may be sabotaging your milk supply inadvertently.  Everytime you use a pacifier instead of breastfeeding, is one less time your breasts are stimulated to make milk.  Pacifiers should only be used when you are apart.  When you are together, pay attention to your baby and breastfeed! Return of your period – If you have started menstruating again, the hormones can cause a lowered milk supply in the week leading up to your period.
1399033 tn?1449587779 It is important to consume enough fluids and nutrients to support milk production. Have you started to switch your baby to formula or breast milk bottle feedings? For some women pumping isn't enough... they need suckling to stimulate production. There are supposed to be herbs you can take to encourage milk production, but I'd speak to a local La Leche League person if you can to find out what is going on with you.
7801868 tn?1395885718 I want to start pumping more often to increase my supply so that way if i go somewhere i have milk put aside. Tonight i plan on having a few drinks and already have enough milk pumped for that. I find i dont get much when i pump, maybe 3 oz total from both boobs. I almost exclusively bf. How can i increase the amount im pumping? Any tips to help with pumping? Best times to pump?
Avatar f tn If your supplementing her after you you nurse you should pump both sides for 10-15 minutes after - even if you are not getting any milk when you pump. The stimulation of pumping will eventually increase your milk supply. If you don't then you will maintain the same milk supply that you have. Or just let her nurse for 15-20 mins each side, even if you think she isn't getting enough that too will increase the milk supply.
Avatar n tn Its not breast milk that she's getting. Its colostrum. Which is the first thing the baby will eat after birth until your milk supply comes in.
Avatar f tn Pumping doesn't stimulate milk production like natural breastfeeding does. Try hand stimylating with pumping every hour, using warm rags around your breast to make the let down reflex easier, and eating certain foods and even some teas can help the body produce milk.
Avatar f tn It may cause you supply to decrease but any breast milk isngood! :) Have you tried pumping? If your already breastfeeding it would be much cheep er a deep your supply up..
Avatar f tn Idk if its just the breast pump I purchased that ***** or if im not producing enough milk.. I bought an evenflo electric pump from Wal-Mart it was only $60 so I didnt expect it to be amazing but at least get the job done. My baby usually drinks about 3 oz of milk when I pump and I can barely get that from one breast.
