Breast abscess on ultrasound

Common Questions and Answers about Breast abscess on ultrasound

abscess

I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.

I am 42 year-old, I had a cyst near the nipple of my right breast and was aspirated after making a mamo and ultrasound and was diagnosed by the pathologist as an abscess. I was on antibiotic for 10 days. The lump almost disappeared but pain persisted and became sometimes stronger specially around the nipple. I went yesterday to the doctor again and made another ultrasound and he told me that there is a scar tissue left and I have to wait 2 months for a follow-up by an ultrasound.
I underwent a surgery for breast abscess on my left breast on Nov 1st 2002.My investigations say: Surgery done under GA,Left breast painted and draped .Incision made on the submit of the swelling which was just below the nipple.Thick pus let out.30ml of thick pus present.Pus sent for culture and found OK.Loculations broken down.Wash given usingH2o2, betadine and saline.Roller guaze used and wound packed. I have been going for dressing for the past 1 month.
/ The other abscess that was thought to have turned hard is actually still an abscess. I strongly suspect the surgeon missed when he tried to aspirate in the office w/o ultrasound. If it were scar tissue it would have not been detected in an ultra sound. According to the radiologist. I'm curious because the previous aspirations did not work is surgery the next step? I'm quite afraid to have a double draining. If surgery is required how long is the healing time, roughly.
I recently found a large breast lump which after a mammogram and ultrasound was determined to be a breast abscess. It was asprirated, I was treated with antibotics. I still have breast pain after 4 weeks. I had another ultrasound which indicates 2 cyst in the same area. The cysts are not perfectly round. Should I have a biopsy?
I have an abscess under my breast. It has grown in the same spot about 3 or 4 times before. I went to the doctor and she referred me to get an ultrasound to see how far down it went. They determined that it did not go into my breast tissue. The last time i got it the doctor put me on antibiotics which i felt did nothing since it always heals by itself. Anyway, it is growing back again more painful and bigger then before and i just don't know what to do about it anymore.

However if after 2 weeks the lump is still there and your breast is still hard, your GP could prescribe one more course of antibiotics or may refer you to a Breast Specialist to confirm the diagnosis of a breast abscess which is usually done using an ultrasound .If the Specialist confirms that you still have a breast abscess,it can usually be successfully treated by draining it using an Ultrasound to guide the needle into place..
I'd call your doctor and ask... Mine leaves it up to my decision on whether I should call and come in or can handle on my own, but she also greatly respects my judgement with my own body. My previous doctor had me call and come in EVERY time. Depends on the doctor (I guess) I'd also check with your insurance if you have it.
I usually have relief after my abscess burst or are opened. Ultrasound guided needle aspirations were so much cleaner and generally left no hole that had to be packed. The first one that was incised was scarey as there was so much drainage.
I feel certain there was some recommendation as to follow-up on the possible abscess on the left. If no recommendation was made on the report I suggest you contact your prescribing physician for advice regarding the next step as some type of action would ordinarily be taken regarding the abscess. Regards ....
Well it dried up and now i have been noticing a hold on my breast about the size of a sharpie pen felt tip..and it drains clear liquid. My concern is if this is normal?..Will the hole close on its own?..
The fluid from the cyst was not sent out to be tested. Is that normal? Also I have another cyst know on my left breast on mynipple. I have no idea whats going on..Please give me some answers.
Usually an infective process like mastitis; or trauma to the site or breast abscess or cystic disease of the breast are painful lesions. You could have pain in your breast associated with hormonal changes linked to your menstrual cycle . Just follow up with your physician for a detailed clinical evaluation and that should put your mind at ease. I think you should go ahead with the ultrasound, so that a confirmed diagnosed can be got.
Six months ago, I had an abscess in my breast (I AM NOT BREAST FEEDING), and it was aspirated after mammogram and US. Since that time, I feel strong pain and heaviness at that breast. I made lately another ultrasound and it showed a scar tissue after the abscess and a few thin-walled cysts up to 19 mm on both sides. I want just to know what can be there to cause that continuous pain, it is not the cysts because I have them in both breasts and the pain is only at the breast which was aspirated.
or trauma to the site or breast abscess or cystic disease of the breast are painful lesions. You could have pain in your breast associated with hormonal changes linked to your menstrual cycle . You could try some OTC pain relief medications, warm compresses and see if it helps with your symptoms. If your breast is still painful, after you have taken all the antibiotics prescribed, you should call your health care provider without delay in case a different antibiotic is needed to cure the infection. Ignoring mastitis can cause complications that can lead to breast abscess, which may require surgery to drain the abscess. Please call your doctor if the pain does not subside. All the best...
Other causes of bleeding through the nipple are breast duct papilloma, abscess, or Paget's disease. I suggest you consult with your doctor or surgeon to have this thoroughly evaluated. He may request imaging studies like mammograms or ultrasound of the breast. If these turned out negative, then that's good. Regards...
I saw a surgeon ( who has done 2 benign breast biopsies on the left breast in the past) who did an ultrasound. It showed a large area of inflammation but no specific pocket of infection and 2 cysts that I did not know I had. He did a FNA but was only able to aspirate blood. This was sent for a culture. He put me on duricef. I saw him a week later. The area of hardness had decreased. Surprisingly, the culture came back as pseudomonas. My dr was shocked.
But he reassured me not to worry. So he brought my films in from the Ultrasound and immediately said its an abscess. He then said I'll show you that I'm right in just a few minutes. He came back in a couple of minutes but this time with a nurse, I then asked him what he was going to do and he said he was gonna drain it. I was completely scared at this time.
20 days before i palpated a lump in my breast,. i got mammography, ultrasound, and FNAC twice Mammogram said---mammogram reveals dense glandular breast, HR USG reveals a complex cyst in the left brest upper outer qudrant., BIRADS -3 Adv FNAC. then i go the the FNAC done.. FNAC repot said ---The smear shows large number of polymorphs degenerated cells along with occasional foamy macrophages in a necrotic backgrouwn with rbc's.
My left breast lump was diagnosed as a benign cluster of cysts by ultrasound. Shortly after that ultrasound, I noticed pain in my right breast that did not go away with cycles. The pain was pretty mild at first but I eventually noticed a mass. The mass is moveable but not free floating. It stays in one place. It's oblong and misshapen. Parts of it are smooth and other parts are textured. It hurts so bad especially when touched.
I think in my last post (almost a mth ago) I mentioned been declined by my breast specialist since I didnt wanna go on Prednisone. Things have just been the same with breast abscess bursting open before my periods. These last 15 days developed a new cyst like mass just above my suregry scar. Also underwent an Ultrasound which was long time pending ever since my wide excision surgery for the breast abscess in Oct 2010.
I questioned if I should remain on this medication, and was advised by my doctor that I needed it, and would be on it from now on. I have many concerns, but the most important is to know it is NOT breast cancer, and if it is cyst... what do I do to prevent them from returning? Will cyst lead to breast cancer???
Then May of 2009 I developed what I thought was the flu and went to my primary care and he ask how my breast was doing and I relized it had to do with that I went straight to my breast surgeon and she admitted me to the hospital where I spent 4 days on IV's, ultrasound, and drained again. I was good until December and it came back. It would pop and feel better. I had to give in and have another surgery 2 weeks ago and Now in trememdous pain, barely move my arm, and been vomiting.
It could be due to breast infection due to bacterial causes or due to a breast abscess. Do a proper breast self exam, wear lose clothing, apply a soothing lotion at the site, take some OTC painkillers for a couple of days to see if the pain subsides. You could also try local application of diclofenac gel at the site. Try some hot compressus, a breast massage and see if it helps. If it still persists then schedule an appointment with your physician for a clinical evaluation. Goodluck.
Twice, I had an ultrasound where they found no drainable fluid and then 2-4 days later I had a full on abscess that opened on its own (through the scars of other abscesses). They can fill up fast.
Obviously im very scared and dont understand all of whats going on with this and how serious this is. Can this cause breast cancer? Will I have to have my breast off ? Will i always suffer with this ?
Hello All: First the mamo and ultrasound says '1.6 cm mass with characteristics of malignancy'. Then the breast surgeon evaluates me further and confirms his concerns and recommends biopsy. The Biopsy was done on Thursday. The results were to come on Monday, the 4th of April. However, my doc. called me on Friday itself to tell me I do not have "C" but a breast infection! He immediately put me on two different kinds of antibiotics and wants me to meet him next week on Thursday.
