Avatar f tn Hi I was diagnosed with a brain cyst by my GP, she said that I probably had it since birth. She didn't really do much explaining except that it wasn't anything serious and wasn't the cause of my daily headaches. She had an MRI done on me which came out fine. I was just wondering, I have been getting my headaches back again quite often, and I was wondering if these cysts can grow?

A couple of days she was in a really bad situation, now she is stable but she can't stand up and walk on her own. She moves her front and her back legs, but she is very week. Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks for the update. Almost 70 % of tapeworm infection of the brain causes seizure. It can mimic brain tumor also. Neurocysticercosis is caused by a tapeworm found in pigs and may be obtained with contamination from food, water or surfaces contaminated with feces. Other symptoms include gastrointestinal ones such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, etc. Continue with your health evaluation and just know that we will be here anytime you need us Take care always.

Avatar n tn First of all a MRI can only rule out seizures that are caused by some worm in brain or bleed or tumor or brain injury. It is not the test to diagnose seizures due to faulty chemical impulses in the brain. This is done by an EEG or Electro Encephalo Gram. Again having a normal EEG does not rule out epilepsy or seizures. It is just a diagnostic aid and is often normal in people having seizures. It can also be abnormal in those not having seizures.
Avatar n tn They access your pineal region from beneath the brain, so they do not affect your brain at all. It sounds like a scary procedure but is actually straightforward for a good brain neurosurgeon. The surgeon essentially inserts a microscopic endoscope that magnifies the area by 50x and uses a navigation system to get him there. It is minimally invasive. The medical literature says that most patients whose pineal cysts are not too large (e.g., < 4.

976897 tn?1379167602 When a cat bites a rodent for example, the worms get into its blood stream and go to the rodents brain. The only side effect from the worm is how it chemically changes the brain, making the prey more placid and not afraid. Apparently this allows the cat to more easily play with its prey before making it food. They took several cat owners to see if they had these worms but none were found. It is thought the cat has to actually bite you to get the worms directly into your bloodstream.
Avatar f tn I don't know about the shunt, but I do know that while ANY operation on the brain carries risk of some changes in mental agility, nevertheless from what I understand, cysts are so well-defined by being encapsulated, that the possibility of damaging nearby structures is minimal.
