Avatar m tn The doctors told me that I was almost completely blind in my right eye. I didn't even know. I drove for a living and never had an accident, the doctors couldn't believe it, I was driving up to three days before I went into the hospital. they told me due to the size, the position, and the involvement of the optical nerves, that my vision might improve. After the first operation I got back almost all the vision in my right eye and the vision in my left eye went from 20/60 to 20/20.
Avatar n tn They’re slowed so much that the brain cells can be left without oxygen for a long time – long enough for the surgeon to do his work. Lying on an operating table in the middle of a high-tech operating theatre, the patient goes into hibernation". The risk depends on the skill of the surgeon to complete the surgery quickly and successfully.
Avatar n tn It sounds like a scary procedure but is actually straightforward for a good brain neurosurgeon. The surgeon essentially inserts a microscopic endoscope that magnifies the area by 50x and uses a navigation system to get him there. It is minimally invasive. The medical literature says that most patients whose pineal cysts are not too large (e.g., < 4.5 cm) become completely asymptomatic after surgery.

Avatar n tn Hi - you need to ask your surgeon how these polyps develop - but I suppose it is genetic and probably accelerated by smoking/bad dietary habits etc etc. All the usual non-specific waffle...!! Surgical excision - i.e. a total colectomy - has probably been recommended to you as the most favourable option which ought to prevent the onset of colon cancer from the polyps. In other words, if nothing was done then you might develop colon cancer.

Avatar f tn I have heard the surgery is somewhat painful. I assume you are seeing a colon rectal surgeon. I would get a tube of Calmoseptine from the drug store. It is over the counter. If you do not see it, the pharmacist can order it for you. My best to you. I know hemorrhoids are no fun!
585414 tn?1288941302 I had the operation through a general surgeon. It seemed as he was professional and he has done many. Everything went smooth. It did not however fix my problems and he was not willing to further investigate...but then again he is a surgeon not a gastroentologist.

Avatar n tn The procedure is to either put to sleep or an anesthesiologist or surgeon can numb your neck area and keep pt awake so one can communicate with the surgeon during the operation. By staying awake, pt may help the physician monitor pt's brain reaction to the decreased blood supply. The surgeon then makes the incision on one side of your neck to expose your blocked carotid artery. Next, pt's surgeon temporarily clamps the carotid artery to stop blood from flowing through it.
