Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar testing without a needle

blood-sugar

Avatar m tn A needle that is a risk gets injected into deep muscle/tissue or into the blood stream. This is a simple prick to get blood that is under the skin. No path for infection.
Avatar m tn Today we were makeing some bloodsugar testing to see how much sugar we had in our blood, and every hour we took a needle to prick on our finger so we could get som blood to test it for sugar. But after my second test witout notcing it, i took one of the other persons needle and pricked my finger, and after the lesent i realized i have been in expore to blood, and then i could maybe have cauhgt HIV from this.
Avatar m tn Hello, HIV is transmissible (passed) from person to person through the exchange of (or exposure to) bodily fluids (blood, semen, etc) by sexual contact, sharing of needles that are not sterile. HIV is not known to be passed from person to person by skin contact (such as shaking hands). What sort of test did you have? Did you have blood drawn? In general, in situations like the one that you describe, there is no risk of HIV transmission unless there is an exchange of bodily fluids.
Avatar m tn If you truly believe you can contract HIV from walking around after having a needle prick in your arm from a blood draw, then you need to read up on HIV transmission and risks. This is impossible. You did not have a risk. You are being overly paranoid because you were being tested for HIV in the first place, which made you obsessively think about it. Let this go and relax- you are HIV negative.
Avatar n tn s not a risk. If there is fresh blood in the bore of the needle and the tip of the needle there should be a rist right?
3191940 tn?1447268717 14) Getting jabbed by a needle by a random person, or stepping on a needle. This simply doesn’t happen. If you think you got jabbed, you didn’t. Anyone who isn’t a professional can’t effectively jab you without you knowing – FOR SURE – that you were injected. The needle would need to go deep and would have to inject blood into you. It would hurt like crazy. If you stepped on a needle, it would go very, very deep – to the point where you’d have to sit down and pull it out.
304653 tn?1217001302 I still have a slight bruise on my arm from my last 3 hour test and that was 2 1/2 weeks ago!!! I have horrible veins, to the point they make me drink water because I get dehydrated and then they can't find my veins even more. Apparently I passed my 3 hour, but just barely and I spilled sugar at my last appt, so now I'm on a 2200 calorie diabetic diet and have to monitor my sugar at home 2x a week.
Avatar m tn I must start out saying that I have bipolar and most of the time the meds work great. This is what happened I was at a friends house when he was testing his blood sugar. I asked him to check mine because Im borderline diabetic but I don't recall him changing the lancet. I guess about a minute went by when he checked mine. The first time he pricked my finger no blood would come out so he did it again. Now Im scaared to the point where my depression wont even let me function.
Avatar m tn You are right I am sorry and I am so confused. It is a test glucose test for sugar in your blood, and I know that no one will reuse a used needle but I did not see him open it and the needle was unprotected....
Avatar f tn I was walking in the flat without shoes For my good luck the sharp object my mom use for getting blood for chcking blood sugar prick me and penetrate my big toe for a minute until I removed . I got wound with bleeding . My mom was hcv +very and received treatment for hcv 10 years back . Any suggestion I know it is risky exposure ? When should I test ? Thank you .
209227 tn?1242346745 That's all I have been using for testing blood. Meaning lancets. Maybe I should look for some lancets that have a thicker needle. Can't poke my fingers on the right hand because that's the hand I use for writing. Had my Mom poke my fingers on the right hand and could not wright due to the pain/sensitivity.
Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old man. Today I have done my blood sugar test by a testing machine after 3 hrs of eating. The result is 112 ml/dl . Is this result is normal ? Is this time 3 hrs wrong ? I am waiting for your valuable reply.
Avatar m tn Yes, I have used a needle. I never shared a needle directly after use by another person. I'd always make sure the visible blood was gone either by water, bleach, or a spray disenfectant that contains bleach. I'm worried that a small amount of blood might have still been present, or that I could have caught it from the spoon, cotton, water, etc. I shared after two people total. But made sure I got out what visible blood I could see with the naked eye. Thanks.
Avatar n tn There is no other way to test. You have two choices. First is think about what could happen if you didn't test your sugars. Secondly, you need to talk to your doctor about your anxiety. There are many good meds out there that can possible help you. Get up in the morning, don't even think about it, use the pediatric tip on your tester so it doesn't hurt as much and do it. I'm sure that once you've done it, the fear will leave. I have a question. what are you terrified about?
Avatar f tn At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.
Avatar m tn Finally, he pulled out a long lancet which looked like a high lighter and said he was going to test my blood sugar. At this i told him i did not want to be poked by a lancet. He assured me that a new lancet needle will be used. He then took off the cap threw out the old needle and inserted a new lancet needle and closed the CAP. He then poked my finger next to my pinky which drew blood which he smeared on a strip and placed into what looked like a stop watch and tested my blood sugar.
Avatar m tn m an EMT, and two days ago, while doing a diascan on a patient (checking their blood sugar), I stuck myself in the finger with the same lancet used to puncture the patient's finger. I squeezed out some of the blood from my punctured finger, and wiped the area with an alcohol pad. Where I was stationed, and because of some mechanical problems with the ambulance, it was impossible for me to get to the hospital within two hours after the incident.
Avatar m tn this time i went to a different clinic, the nurse opened the testing kit in front of me. my question is the needle that came out of the kit, which was used on me was a different kind of needle that was used on my 2 weeks agothis time the needle was thin and in green colour, and the last time that was used it was in blue colour and bigger. also as i remember in last test the needle was not in the box the nurse had it separate.
Avatar m tn m assuming fasting blood sugar] indicates prediabetes. This can be corrected with proper diabetes nutrition, maintaining proper weight and daily physical exercise. Does "pp" stand for postprandial? Without knowing when, or how the 256 mg/dl test results came about your wife should ask the next doctor, preferably an Endocrinologist - a diabetes specialist - for 1. A1c test [HgBA1c, HbA1c] - gives a more reasonable view of the glucose [blood sugar] over the past 3 months.
Avatar n tn I am 18 and very fit and well except that I have a really bad blood and needle phobia. I pass out cold at the sight of blood needles and at the dentist. I have been fainting since I was a young boy but recently just the thought of blood or going to the dentist is enough to make me pass out. My parents were told that I am vasovagel and that as I get older the fainting should stop.
Avatar n tn He said it was reactive Hypoglycaemia, which is low blood sugar a few hours after eating or during exercise, this is why I want to know what the chance is of it turning into diabetes, my doctor is vague on the subject and says it depends on all kinds off things.
Avatar f tn I concur, no risk from this event. You used a new needle and a new testing strip, so no one else's blood came in contact with your body. You don't even know if your family member has Hepatitis C - and even if they did, it would still be a no risk situation.
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar f tn For anyone that finds this in their searches, it turns out that I actually have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Autonomic testing showed a drop in blood pressure after eating which cause these symptoms!
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Dude Without a meter, you're flying blind. You have no idea where you are, where you were, or where you want to be.
