Avatar n tn I think my fear of potential diabetic complications is strong enough that it overrides any discomfort or inconvenience caused by testing my blood sugar. I actually test around 10 times a day and I don't mind it at all. The finger pricking really doesn't hurt barely at all since I'm so used to it, so that's a non issue, and it takes so quick to do that it isn't that much trouble. Definitely worth it to avoid complications. Basically, I use fear as a motivator.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.

Avatar f tn They have you drink this liquid. I got orange it taste like flat orange pop. Then they have you wait an hour and they prick your finger to test your sugar. It's to be sure you don't have gestational diabetes. Everyone gets tested for it.

Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old man. Today I have done my blood sugar test by a testing machine after 3 hrs of eating. The result is 112 ml/dl . Is this result is normal ? Is this time 3 hrs wrong ? I am waiting for your valuable reply.
Avatar m tn About 10-15 minutes later they drew blood from my vein and checked blood sugar, blood count, etc... and all these were normal. Does it mean anything or should I be concerned that the finger ***** was 110 but blood from my actual vein came out normal?

He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar f tn At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.
Avatar f tn You should check two hours after eating for a more reliable indication of diabetes or blood sugar problems, before a meal you should be between 70-99 and two hours after you should be 140 or below.

Avatar n tn My now 6-year-old son has been having episodes upon waking in the morning, which were happening about twice a year, but have increased in frequency to once every one to two months. He is lethargic, extremely weak (explained by him as having no power), and is very pale. Every time this happens, he will not wake on his own. Nearly every time, something sugary with recover him quickly, although sometimes he will vomit before we can even make it to the kitchen.
Avatar f tn t need one unless you are diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetics lives depend on knowing what their blood sugar levels are on a daily basis, so the blood testing has to be very accurate. An Endo is still best at doing your testing, any and all testing for this.
Avatar n tn ve done finger/arm tests throughout the day and have not had anything remotely abnormal. I had a fasting blood sugar level of 93 first thing in the AM and all my levels after eating were 135 or below. Could the 191 have been error? Should I request to have the one hour test repeated first before I torture myself with the three hour test? Or should I just suck it up and do the test.
Avatar n tn When he had a seizure Friday I called 911 and the paramedics checked his blood sugar and it was 218 and they thought he might be diabetic. 8 hours later we took him to the health department and they checked his sugar (by drawing blood from his arm) and it was 112 and they said he wasn't diabetic and that the finger ***** test wasn't very accurate. They thought that the seizure caused his sugar to go up. The last time he had ate anything was 12 hours before the seizure.
Avatar n tn hey all, i have not been diagnosed with diabetes but i do have neuropathy and have been ruled out for just about any neuro disorder that could cause my symptoms (burning feet/pain, numbness, tingling in hands/feet). i had a blood sugar test (the finger ***** one) and my level was "perfect". i scheduled a glucose tolerance test just because i want to 100% sure i dont have diabetes...is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine???
209227 tn?1242346745 Use lancets for pricking fingers for blood test. And you can certainly use your right hand fingers for blood testing. Its not a big inconvenience and won't affect your work!!
Avatar m tn IT IS THE BEST THING FOR US IN A LONG TIME. I SUGGESTED TO ADD A BLOOD SUGAR TRACKER YESTERDAY. TODAY I AM SUGGESTING A FEATURE TO HELP ACUTE DIABETICS. THE TRACKER SHOULD HAVE PRESET SAMPLE TIMES AT: (1) BEFORE 1st MEAL (2) AFTER 1st MEAL (3) MID MORNING (4) BEFORE NOON MEAL (5) AFTER NOON MEAL (6) MID AFTERNOON (7) BEFORE LAST MEAL (8) AFTER LAST MEAL (9) AT BEDTIME.
Avatar f tn For anyone that finds this in their searches, it turns out that I actually have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Autonomic testing showed a drop in blood pressure after eating which cause these symptoms!
Avatar f tn they had me do it last month at 12 weeks. Just an hour for testing and only drew blood once. But lucky me they said ill have to do it again later on in pregnancy too. It does make you wanna hurl and I definitely crashed later that afternoon.
Avatar n tn Could have been something you did during the testing as well. Maybe there was some residual sugar on your skin at the test site that may have effected the reading. If it has never happened before and does not continue to happen I would not worry about it.
Avatar n tn There is no other way to test. You have two choices. First is think about what could happen if you didn't test your sugars. Secondly, you need to talk to your doctor about your anxiety. There are many good meds out there that can possible help you. Get up in the morning, don't even think about it, use the pediatric tip on your tester so it doesn't hurt as much and do it. I'm sure that once you've done it, the fear will leave. I have a question. what are you terrified about?
