Blood sugar test strips from urine

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar test strips from urine

blood-sugar

Avatar n tn Test strips that change color to reveal the amount of a substance in a liquid (for example, sugar in urine, ketones in urine, certain meds/drugs in urine, high-school "litmus paper" tests for the amount of acid or base), give a general indication of how much of that substance is present in the liquid. The tests that give an exact number (such as a modern blood sugar meter) gives a more precise indication.
Avatar f tn Anyone seen / used the new freestyle test strips? I was given them just a couple of days ago. The new shape is nice but I'm suspicious of them. http://www.abbott.com/global/url/pressRelease/en_US/60.5:5/Press_Release_0876.htm I've heard it said that sugar is sugar, your body doesn't know the difference. So why should our test strips? I take my blood sugar when I feel like it's high but these things give me numbers in the 80 -90 range, never above 100.
325405 tn?1262290178 I was diagnosed this past October as insulin resistant. I had a two hour glucose test and my blood sugar tested normal, but my insulin level was through the roof. My morning readings were 125 to 135. I was put on 500mg of Metformin and started low-carb dieting & exercising. My Metformin increased to 1000mg one month later and then in December my insulin was tested again it was finally normal.
Avatar m tn These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period). Rather than a normal blood test that would only show the sugar levels at the time you gave your blood for testing.
Avatar n tn Im in the UK and it seems the first step is the urine test according to my NHS walk in centre but you can ask for the blood test straight away if your really worried....but I think that depends on any symptoms. Ive heard different opinions on the urine test though, I have been told that its no good by one or two people but then afew others have said its fine for an intial check. Ive had a urine test and it was ok so Im just curious, as it was clear is that it? am I clear for diabetes? thanks.
Avatar f tn The way to check for diabetes is with a blood test. A fasting blood sugar could be taken and a normal person would have under 100. A pre-diabetic would have 100 to 125 and a diabetic would have 126 or over. They could also do an OGTT which tests response to a sugary drink over a period of a couple hours (and again, test the blood). But the standard to diagnose diabetes is a blood test that measures A1C which is an average of blood sugars for a period of about 3 months. An A1C under 5.
Avatar n tn Labs have specified time lines to test blood samples. Surpassing the time line makes the test results bogus, the test is a throw out. Some doctors have their own labs while most send them to an outside independent lab. In either case, the doctor's lab technician or an outside lab technician was tardy testing your blood sample. Complain to your doctor as he/she should make every effort to correct this tardiness so it doesn't happen again.

Avatar m tn ya i ate the usual heavy lunch really rich in carb(wheat flour bread.,fried potatoes refined oil to name a few )....and the testing was not done at home but went to a lab where my blood and urine checked for sugar.....blood 104 and urine -NIL result.
Avatar n tn ) They have always seen protein in my urine also. At times though, I can tell my blood sugar goes down a lot, because I get very shaky, and at other times when my blood sugar is not low, I sometime black out for a second, get very dizzy, and faint. I also have excessive night sweats, and minor inner ear pain. I am not sure what to think any more. Any help would be great! P.S: We just found out I am also lactose intolerant.
Avatar n tn I again bought urine strips that detect blood only, and the strips shows non-hemolyzed trace only after drinking beer or coffee. If I drink a glass of water with a tsp of baking soda, the test strips come out negative. I guess my question is "is it harmful to drink a glass of baking soda water daily?", or should I return to the doctor and go thru kidney x-rays, cystoscopy, etc again? I really hate to give up my coffe ...
Avatar m tn Keto-diastix is one brand of cheap strips that will give general blood sugar counts and ketone levels. These use urine instead of blood. Experiment with those, record the info and then ask your doctor to explain anything needed about it...
Avatar m tn i would get your blood sugar checked via a fasting blood sugar and Hemoglobin A1C, and also a urinalysis and BUN Creatinine blood test to check for kidney problems.
Avatar n tn Thanks to both of you. As far as I know, the meter is OK and the test strips are well within expiration. The doctor is very, very hesitant to write a prescription for test strips, so I buy them. It's absurb because with my insurance I could test four times a day free. As it is now, I really hoard the test strips. Yes, I try to watch the carbs and sugars, though I fell off the wagon during the Christmas days and that's probably why I'm showing the higher numbers.
709686 tn?1277432159 One portiion of the physical is they take a urine sample to check for sugar. My test did not reveal sugar/glucose in the urine. Over the past few years I've had several blood tests done to see if I'm diabetic and each one comes back negative. My question is this. Is it possible to be diabetic when all tests come back negative? I seem to have all the symptoms and my grandfather died from diabetes at a very young age. HELP!
Avatar f tn The HBA1C blood test shows the average blood sugar over a period of 3 months. If the sugar level in the body is high, this would be detected in a urine specimen test using the urine test strips. It depends on how much glucose is in the blood stream to whether it shows up on the urine sample test. Eating any type of food, and especially high glucose foods when having a hypoglycaemic attack would bring the sugar levels up.
Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar n tn The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.
1058898 tn?1275675151 I would get confident with your meter as I described above and then test as often as you can afford (test strips are expensive!) two hours after meals. Perhaps the changes the dietician suggested will help. If not and you keep seeing highs as well as lows, then it is time to see a different doctor or an endocrinologist who is more skilled with blood sugar issues than regular doctor. (and who knows that anything above 140 is a problem, not above 190!
Avatar n tn If it is above 150 mg/dL, wash your hands, dry your hands, and test your blood sugar level again. If it is still above 150, go either to your doctor or to the hospital.
Avatar m tn In order to control your diabetes you need to know what your blood sugar is doing. So you need to buy a meter and test strips. there are cheaper brands. Then you test your fasting (ideally it is < 95), and you test 1 1/2 to 2 hrs after eating and ideally it is < 140, or even better < 120.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Before stating whether you are in danger of diabetes, or you are normal it would be nice to know the make/model and age of your meter. Age of the test strips, if you are within the expiration date of the test strips, and whether the meter requires calibration prior to use. Knowing the aforementioned helps to determine if your test results qualify or not.
866901 tn?1505506236 In googling "blood glucose test strips", I found several websites which offered test strips and glucometers at varying prices (ie.http://www.diabetesnet.com/test_strips.php). Since your cat is going to need lifelong care, it will pay for you to shop around.
