Normally simple blood tests results like hemogram, total cell count, complete blood checkup, blood sugar, electrolytes etc are available the same day. If you had a fasting blood sugar of 116 that is high for a non-diabetic; if you had eaten within two hours before the test then 116 would not be cause for concern. Regardless, you should take the medications the doctor prescribed as indicated because you don't want your sugar level to creep higher. While you are doing that, though, you can absolutely exercise and change your diet and try to lose that weight.

Is there usually a difference in the test results from blood drawn from the arm and blood drawn from the finger tip? I heard that the fingertip blood can test higher than blood drawn from the arm and I wondered if that is usually the case.

Earlier today i had to do the sugar test where you drink that nasty orange stuff, the first bottle i vomitted it up instantaneously. The second bottle i was able to keep down for a little over an hour, long enough for the blood test, but eventually threw it up on the ride home from the dr office. Later i was talking to a friend about it and she said when she did it she had to do it twice bc the first results were wonky. I hope my results are fine so i dont have to go through that again.

I went to the doc today and he gave me my results....my blood sugar is 217. I knew that this would happen again but I wanted it to wait another month or two. My doc is going to put me on a diet after this weekend. I told him that you can't put a pregnant woman on a diet and he laughed right along with me. Then he said oh yes I can. Silly doctors. half year post liver transplant, my question now is about his bood sugar, we are trying to monitor it , we have the kit and test sugar before and after meal, but there was time that in just a minute sugar rises and and sometimes went very low. is this normal for or the kit have a problem?

Oh... They draw your blood, then draw your blood again in an hour then again in another hour if you're doing the two hour. If it's a three hour test then one mere draw after another hour. You get your blood drawn, then sit and wait... No drinking anything but water, no chewing gum, no eating a mint and my fave they remind you of is no smoking haha duh I'm pregnant I'm not gonna smoke! Then you're done.

my blood sugar the last 3 days have been in the 160 range. I am on 1000mg of metformin daily, watch my diet, and exercise up to 1hr to 1 1/2 hrs daily. My test usually run about 103-115. I have checked my blood for the last 3 days after exercise, and at least 3 hrs after eating, each time they are over 160. All doctors should run what is called A1C testing, to test your overall blood sugar readings over the past 3 months. This can actually be determined through this testing. (Remarkable, huh?)
