Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar test after eating

Avatar f tn Fasting should be 80-90, 1 hr after eating 120-140, and 2 hrs after eating 100-120. Not sure if that's what you mean or not? Or after the glucose test. I've been using a glucometer to keep track of mine over the course of a week.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar m tn I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your doctor and ask if you can have a glucose intolerance test and do a HBA1C blood test. a HBA1C blood test will show the average glucose levels in the blood stream over a period of approximately 3 months. It may be that you have an insulin intolerance. This means that your pancreas is producing insulin, but this is not being used adequately by your body.
Avatar n tn I totally agree with the advice that has been given to you. Most articles that discuss normal ranges of blood sugar for people who are not diabetic list the range of "normal" as being between about 70-140. I believe that some doctors consider a blood sugar higher than about 150 after a meal as diabetic. So your son's sugar levels in the 200's do warrant some tests. We wish you the best.
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar m tn Has your Dad had his blood sugar levels checked? As far as bloating and gassy, is this after he eats anything or fatty foods which may mean it's gallbladder related. I sound like a broken record, but honestly, just ask him to go to his Doctor and get himself checked.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your help! I appreciate your feedback! I was wondering about the reactive hypoglycemia and if that's what it could be. This lower blood sugar after eating didn't start until my blood sugars were under the normal limits all throughout the day. I realize it wasn't that low but it was lower than what I was used to. Also, I was wondering if you might know about normal insulin levels? She checked my insulin level and it was 6, she said 0-25 was normal???
Avatar f tn I just took my test by finger by myself and it was 150 after eating is this bad or good..
Avatar f tn Oh... They draw your blood, then draw your blood again in an hour then again in another hour if you're doing the two hour. If it's a three hour test then one mere draw after another hour. You get your blood drawn, then sit and wait... No drinking anything but water, no chewing gum, no eating a mint and my fave they remind you of is no smoking haha duh I'm pregnant I'm not gonna smoke! Then you're done.
Avatar n tn abeybaby, I am not a doctor so don't take my opinions as the absolute truth. For that you have to go to a doctor. A normal blood sugar is around 90. Most of us wait around 2 hours after a meal before testing. For a diabetic, 145 would be OK after 1 1/2 hours. It would be interesting to know what yours was after 2 hours. it may just take your body a little longer to process the sugar. However, your fasting blood sugars look good to me.
Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar f tn Though a rare disorder, pancreatic insulinomas should also be thought of in your case and have someone check your blood sugar just after eating which will show hypoglycemia. Dizziness after eating can also be due to TMJ. Many patients with TMJ have dizziness. There are two possible causes. One is that when TMJ is inflamed inner ear is affected causing dizziness. The second possible cause is inflammation of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) involved in TMJ and chewing.
Avatar n tn My 15 year old son just tested 109 on a home blood sugar test. He had not eaten for 3 hours.
Avatar n tn It could be that you have post-prandial hypotension, which means that your blood pressure drops very low after eating. This can cause excessive sleepiness after a meal. Do you have any other reactions, such as dizziness or light-headedness, or even anxiety? It could also be from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Avatar f tn So because I threw up during the 3hr glucose test, I have to check my blood sugar levels at home for a week. So just curious what is the normal range? I have to check it when I wake up and 1-2 hrs after every meal.
Avatar m tn Please if your numbers after a full nights sleep are much over 120, and you are still thirsty, and still over 140 I believe after 2 hours( after eating)............get to a walkin in clinic today. You might want to call your insurance co. and get their guidance before you do that TODAY. Don't be scared. The dry mouth was one of the symptoms of possible diabetes. That number is another! My first symptoms when I asked to be tested started similarly.
Avatar n tn This only ever happens after lunch time. What could cause a sudden drop in blood pressure after eating? Sometimes the end of a headache corresponds with a series of heart palpitations or a slight burning (like an adrenaline rush) in the chest. However, most of the time my head stops hurting while I'm asleep. On a related note, I've been woken up by extreme rushes of adrenaline in the middle of the night on occasion.
Avatar f tn You want to then determine what is the maximum blood sugar you get after eating. This may range between 30 and 120 minutes after eating (though most drs will recommend testing between 90 - 120 minutes after starting eating). You can determine your personal testing time to catch your peak blood sugars by eating a regular meal and then testing every 30 minutes for say 2.5 hours. The peak blood sugar measured will then tell you your testing time.
Avatar f tn It may help. But you might have a mild case of gestational diabetes. I failed my first one too didn't take the three hour test because the 1 hr was too much sugar for me and I got extremely sick. So they are treating me as if I have GD. The duet us hard at first but you get use to it fast. I regret not eating healthier earlier on in my pregnancy, but that doesn't mean it would have changed anything. My body just isn't producing enough insulin.
1058898 tn?1275675151 I have not been told if i have diabetes but my Dr. told me to watch my blood sugar because im having symptoms of hypo. I notice my blood sugar at night between 2-3 am are over 120 and my fasting blood sugar in the morning is over 100. When i get the fealing of low it is around 80 and it will keep dropping. the last time it went to 67 and i had to eat some thing i couldnt wait. i had a cup of oj and checked in 15 min and it went to 137.
Avatar f tn My obgyn had me take the 3 hr test because I was at 137. For this test you have to fast. I took my test at 7:30 am & I stopped eating at 8:30 the night before. But I was at work so it wasn't an actual meal. Eat a meal high in protein.
Avatar f tn These secrete huge amount of insulin in response to food and the person has hypoglycemia or low blood sugar just after eating. Diagnosis is by doing blood sugar levels fating, after food and through glucose challenge test. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor regarding these possibilities and treatment options discussed. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn The diagnosis resulted in part from a blood test they did on me, a few weeks back. They tested my levels (ie. blood sugar, insulin, vitamins, etc.) after fasting, and compared it to my tested levels immediately after eating. I had a really sugary meal right before the "eating test". The results came back to show an ironically low blood sugar, and vey intense spike in insulin. I'm still going to do further research on the sinus thing.
Avatar f tn i have GD & they want me to test my blood sugar 2 hours after eating, & it should be under 120. some say 130. when fasting, or waking up in the morning it should be between 60-90.
Avatar n tn Its just means that your sugar levels were a bit high but dont worry that happened to me and when i took the 3 hour test everything came back normal!
