3530672 tn?1370038043 Has anyone had gestational diabetes? I was diagnosed with it and everyone says I'm gonna have a big baby. Is this always true? I've only gained in my belly. I'm all belly pretty much. I think my size is normal for 35 weeks. I'm close to what I was with my first and I was all belly with him. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn I do not eat any sugar or foods containing sugar. I eat a lot of veg and salad. Bran flakes for breakfast. It has improved my blood sugar levels. But not enough as i need it to. What helps you?
Avatar n tn Hi, 223 is too high (is that blood sugar or blood pressure)? In either case it's too high. Most likley you have gestational diabetes with these numbers. Low carb eating and careful portion control will help with your blood sugar management. Worst case you will need to take medications / insulin. Please don't eat sugars now. Work with your doctor. Good blood sugar control is important for healthy pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Your fasting blood sugar when pregnant is suppose to be 20 pts lower then when your not pregnant. My fasting sugar was the same way between 90 - 96 I now take a low dose of meds and my fasting blood sugar is between 70-80. It's not a big deal to take the meds and it's in your baby's best interest.
Avatar n tn The sandwich only had 46g and I only had like 6 fries. After we ate we went and walked a corn maze for like 30 min and my sugar was still 134. Im usually really good but it seems like every other week ill get a high reading when it shouldn't be. My ob said something to me about meds too but my baby isn't big hes normal so idk. I don't have to go in for nst or weekly u/s. Just aggravates me.
Avatar n tn Sooo apparently I failed my 3 hour fasting test for gestational diabetes. However I have been checking my blood sugar for the past couple days twice a day and my sugar has not been high at all. Pretty good actually. I eat the right things and exercise and I hardly touch things that's really high in sugar. I wonder if this is just a glitch ? They want me to take this class and buy this glucometer and test strips thats over 100 dollars but I honestly dnt think I need them.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
1324377 tn?1274732341 Anyway, I have one of those blood sugar test kits here at home and I decided to test my blood this afternoon just for the heck of it (I've had this whole glucose on my mind for the past 2 weeks). The results showed the number 268!!!! I don't know what that means exactly, but from what I've found online, it's not good. So I called my Dr. and asked exactly how bad my numbers were when I took the 1 and 3 hour tests and what all this means.
Avatar f tn Anybody with gestational diabetes when do you know when your sugar is to low or to high...
Avatar f tn My chances of developing diabetes are high, both my parents have diabetes, I got tested at 10 weeks and got normal results, at 16 weeks I got another test (due to having glucose on my urine) and my one hr came back slightly elevated 156/140 and had to do the 3 hr and got normal results! Today I eat at 9 am, I had a sprite with my meal, and I decided to check my blood sugar with my mom's machine, and to my surprise my reading came 99 after 3 hrs, it is a normal number right??
6712392 tn?1393708678 Large babies are caused by moms blood sugars being too high, not the insulin. If moms blood sugar is too high babies blood sugar will be high, this causes the baby's pancreas to work harder to produce more insulin which can produce a larger baby.
Avatar f tn I was told to not eat anything after 8pm the night before I had my gestational diabetes blood work. Prior to that I ate my regular meals plus a slice of cake during the day and a snow cone thar afternoon before. I failed my gestational diabetes test and had to go back and do the 4 hour testing. I was advised by a friend not to eat any sweets 2 days prior to test because apparently sugar stays longer and slower in your body while pregnant.
Avatar f tn I also had it but for some reason i couldn't believe it. My doctor made me check my blood sugar 4 times a day and my level wasnt even considered for diabetes so idk how they figured i had it But you can easily lower it by eating lots of fruits..peanut butter..eggs..
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar f tn ( so theyl for sure have to do that this time too then since I have it this pregnancy ?
Avatar f tn I am 23 and just got diagnosed with it. I've been testing for 2 days and mine is all good too. Its no big deal unless you're someone who's sugar spikes high it can cause a big baby and for you to be more likely to get real diabetes later in life. Just keep it in check.
Avatar f tn t too hard and i also have a good amount of knowledge on nutrition and have a close friend with diabetes so i know how she eats. and another important part to stabilize and regulated your blood sugar is too eat frequently which is whats with all the snacks. hope this helps some more.
Avatar f tn Hi, did anyone develop gestational diabetes and if so, how are you being treated for it?
Avatar m tn Hello all. I'm new here and have a question. My daughter Laura is diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She's currently on medications, but cannot lower blood sugar in the mornings. I'm afraid she will get type 2 diabetes. What is the best way (and natural, of course) to treat gestational diabetes?
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
183933 tn?1290216962 Around that time she tested her blood sugar levels at home and her numbers were around 280. I know for about a week they were pretty high, centering around that number. Now she is 7 1/2 weeks along and her numbers are around 125. That is all controlled from her diet. She has not been put on anything yet to help control it. She has an appointment at the dieabet center but has not gone yet.
Avatar f tn low blood sugar is not the same as gestational diabetes. however even with gestational diabetes you can have low blood sugar.
Avatar n tn Hi, certainly it is possible to have diabetes (more likely after gestational diabetes). You probably should be checked for type 1 diabetes, which can also occur as an adult. This will involve antibody testing as well as checking blood insulin levels. Although your sugar levels are not terribly high, they do seem higher than normal. Hba1c of 5.2 is not high, and still within high normal range.
Avatar f tn The effects of too much or too little will mean a smaller or larger baby. It is hard but writing my meals out along with checking my blood sugar helps much. I have cut out yogurt because it spikes my glucose levels too high.
Avatar f tn s meant to see how your body processes the sugar, and therefore can detect gestational diabetes. If your numbers are too high, they will have you schedule a 2nd test in which you drink a stronger version of the sugary drink, take blood, and then once every hour for 3 hours they take blood again. Many women fail the first test, take the 2nd test and pass it.
