Avatar m tn In order to control your diabetes you need to know what your blood sugar is doing. So you need to buy a meter and test strips. there are cheaper brands. Then you test your fasting (ideally it is < 95), and you test 1 1/2 to 2 hrs after eating and ideally it is < 140, or even better < 120.

194838 tn?1303428544 You might want to test your fasting blood sugar first thing before any food which should be under 100. Then try two hours after a meal, do a different meal each day. Those numbers should be under 140. This is very useful to tell you which foods you can eat which allow you to be in target range and which spike your blood sugar too high.

Avatar n tn GD is high sugar levels. If you are GD then you should by rights be monitoring you blood sugar levels (BSL) at the least 3 times a day. Also you should have been informed of what foods to avoid and what is ok to eat. I was informed that carbs are ok in proportion. You also must eat 5 small meals spaced evenly through the day. Low GI foods are great. Talk to your dr if you have GD you may need insulin and more intensive care or monitoring. It's not something to rely on half guesses with.
