Avatar f tn Is blood glucose reading of 139 ok two hours after eating? I've just begun self-testing and I've had three readings of 88 (afternoon, no food), 89 (morning before eating or drinking), and 139 (two hours after eating). My mother's family has Type I diabetes (8 out of 11 total) and my father developed Type II before he died. I'm concerned because I have very high "highs" and very low "lows" complete with blurred vision, shaking, anxiety, and constant urination.
Avatar n tn At dinner I ate lasagna, salad, sweet tea. Anyway 30-45 minutes after dinner, my blood sugar was 118. Is this normal or does it seem kind of high? At the doctor last year fasting it was 91. Also, I have been suffereing from severe fatigue after my long runs and have to basically sit down for the rest of the day which I hate. I am going to start to check my blood sugar after these runs to see what it is. I eat alot after the long runs but it does not seem to help.
Avatar f tn So I just checked my sugar with this new machine(after I made sure it was calibrated) about a hr after I ate and it said 235, which my doctor says to go to the hospital if my sugar ever goes over 200. So I was just curious so I checked my sugar again with my new machines for a 2nd time 5 mins later and it gave me a new reading of 159. I'm confused. How in the world does my sugar drop 76 points in 5mins on my new machine????
Avatar n tn I have very low blood sugar levels and i get dizzy and sometimes i cant talk properly. What is the lowest it can be before i have to be hospitalized. I am very scared for my unborn little girl and i cant let anything happen to her. What can i eat to keep my sugar levels high all the time.
Avatar n tn 1 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Feb. 5th. I have an ultra touch 2 monitor for her. I did notice that they have a software for it in which I can download and monitor her levels, etc. I also have noticed that there is a diabetes pilot software in which I can get for my desktop and pda. I like the fact that the diabetes pilot has a list of foods (carbs, etc.) that you can enter for reference and can be used on my pda.
Avatar m tn One month later i bought OneTouch Ultra Glucose meter. Though I have controlled a lot on my sugar intake, the sugar level always comes in between 100 and 120. Does eating sugar added food cause diabetes ? Why was not my sugar level not coming below 100 even after my food was controlled. I do not take regualar exercise. I have 177cm tall and weighs about 76 Kg. Am I overweight to develop diabetes ?Could you pls let me know how can I reduce my glucose levels below 100 or to a safer level ?
503651 tn?1223174601 I have been checking my blood sugar consistantly (finger tips) using the freestyle light. Every thing has been nomal except 2 times this month i got very high readings. One was 169 and the other was 144. However both times I retested using the same finger and got signifigantly lower readings. From 169 to 108 and from 144 to 100. Only a few secons elapsed between readings so i cannot figure out why it would go down so far so fast. Anyone have any ideas about this?
Avatar f tn d probably get it checked in another 6 months to see where you are at. This article may help you understand how blood sugar can fluctuate and when it is normal. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar n tn THE BOSTON GLOBE March 14, 2008 A small Franklin company says it is developing a novel device that could potentially let diabetics continuously monitor their blood-sugar levels — without having to draw blood. Echo Therapeutics Inc. is expected to say today the device passed one of its first key tests, a pilot study with two dozen patients in the intensive-care unit at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
Avatar f tn Thank you for your quick response. Your answers have helped. My meter is calibrated to the test strips that I use - it came pre-calibrated when I got it from the pharmacy (either that or THEY calibrated it for me before I picked it up) and each time I insert a test strip, it shows the calibration number so I can verify that it is the same. You mentioned a test solution - I did not receive any test solution with my meter or strips. Is this something that I can/should purchase separately?

I know that their is a margen that the goverment requiers for it to be ok.
Avatar f tn half year post liver transplant, my question now is about his bood sugar, we are trying to monitor it , we have the kit and test sugar before and after meal, but there was time that in just a minute sugar rises and and sometimes went very low. is this normal for or the kit have a problem?
Avatar f tn All these things greatly influence blood sugar. If you have been unable to get your blood sugar stable at all, these are things you need to work on. I hope your husband gets better soon.
Avatar f tn I am also having trouble with low blood sugar. My blood sugar goes from 44 to 255. I know normal is 80-120 . At the Diabetes clinic they said if mine dropped from 50-70 to take gluclose tabs, 8, but my body is reacting like a normal one. I take 4 at 44 which is life threatening low. I also notice that lately it's dropping after I eat which I don't understand. This discussion is related to Blood sugar drops after eating.
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.
Tbd Hi. So, a glucose meter using a finger tip prick or a continuous glucose monitor is best for checking blood sugar. Of course, that's after you are diagnosed with diabetes. Prior to that, blood work ordered by your doctor will reveal your sugar levels. https://diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hi, Can I ask what insulins you take? Are you on pump or MDI (multiple daily injections). Is your basal insulin taken once or twice a day. If you are going low from exercise, you may need to decrease your basal (this is easier if you are on a pump). Alternatively you may plan your exercise after eating and inject slightly less than usual insulin for the meal, as the exercise will naturally bring your blood sugars down.
180395 tn?1287493997 Once before breakfast and once before lunch. So I decided to buy a glucose monitor to check to see if maybe low blood sugar was the culprit. Well this morning before I bought it I came to work, had 2 donuts for breakfast (this isnt an everyday thing, someone just decided to be nice and bring some to work this morning) then I had 2 cups of coffee with creamer that contains sugar and on the way to work this morning I had a large cup of sweet tea.
1947337 tn?1331423890 I slept til almost 3 and i had to just force myself to get up and unlock the door for my son. All i could think of was to check my blood sugar (i have a maachine from yrs ago when i had gest diab but have never had any other prob that i know of. Anyway, it was 56 which i think is low so i ate a couple of spoonsful of pb and drank a dr pepper. Waited 45 min and checked it again, it went up to 72. I still don't feel good but better than this morning....
491523 tn?1209215092 First, lemme say hi. I just found this forum. It looks like it can help me a lot! Second: I'm an American type 2 on insulin. I use the OneTouch Ultra. It displays results in mg/dL. While on vacation last summer in Canada, I took advantage of an offer for a free OneTouch Ultra Mini. It displays results in mmol/L. The Canadian pharmacist assured me I could change the meter to display in mg/dL. But in fact I cannot. The manual clearly says so. I'd like to keep using it.
446335 tn?1223948356 A recent pre-op blood test showed a blood sugar level of 139. My doctor had me do the 2-hr. glucose tolerance test today. Don't have the results yet but the blood sugar test they did initially showed a level of 140. I know both of those put me into the category of diabetic. Runs in the family BTW, father managed blood sugar with Glucotrol. So what can I expect?
