You should check two hours after eating for a more reliable indication of diabetes or blood sugar problems, before a meal you should be between 70-99 and two hours after you should be 140 or below.
Hi, the normal target for blood sugar is 4-7mmol/L before eating, and 2 hours after eating is 5-10mmol/L for people with diabetes. For people who are pre-diabetes is 4-6mmol/L before eating, and 5-8mmol/L 2 hour after eating. best of luck!

Your blood sugar before breakfast is a fasting blood sugar.
(There would be a different answer to your question). That is on the low side, but not severely so. I would occasionally check their blood sugar in the morning or before a meal. If it is in the 60s then that would be too low and should be checked out.
I have been at or over 300 in my blood sugar levels for two weeks and my doctor is away. Should I go to the emergency room? When should I panic? What other steps can I take before my doctor gets back?
My father has had diabetes for 35 years now. My blood sugar level is higher while fasting than during the day. I have lost about 25 pounds in the last 2 years, and watch what I am eating. I am scared that I will become diabetic too. Last night before going to bed my reading was 112, while this morning 128. Is that normal? Anyone can explain why the blood sugar level is higher in the morning? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?
I had went to the emergency last week because of some other symptoms that I have been having. They did a blood work up and my blood sugar level was at a 57. I hadn't eaten anything all day and by the time they had released me I had taken a couple of sips of my daughters sprite and it went up to 98. So the said I was fine. Since then I have been very worried about this so I decided to get myself a meter so that I could test myself.
I need some help...I just started to test my own blood sugar levels....In the morning before meals it goes to 107-120 and then after meals it goes to 120,130,145,151,181,209 back down to 140,150,120 in that order....My back doctor is alittle worried she says it is high for my age(30). Im going in the morning for blood work while im fasting....Can someone tell me if i have anything to worry about? If so can i be type one or two?
I've been monitoring my blood sugar level using the Accu-check Aviva and my readings show consistently that my FASTING reading was higher than my non-fast (2 hrs after meal). For example: 148 Fasting and 123 Non-fasting. My doctor gave me a medical explanation why this is so but I barely understood it. Can anyone explain to me why there are cases whereby a fasting reading is higher than non-fasting? He placed me on medication (Actos) and observe progress for 90 days.
What is your blood pressure like? Changes in blood pressure from "regular" blood pressure values (either going up or down), along with raised cholesterol and triglyceride levels can indicate a problem with the kidneys. Have the doctor do a urine test. If abnormal, see a nephrologist and have your kidney function tested. It is common with persons who have either hyper- or hypoglycemia to "lose" proteins along with sugar via the kidney.
As I said, for optimum good health, everyone should eat smaller, healther meals more frequently to keep your blood sugar levels constant.) Hope this helps... Stator, once again I was blown away with your sense of metaphor and description, I really think your metaphor for "getting spritual" (with the little boy on the beach) is publishable. (I'm an editor/writer of sorts, so I think I have some knowledge on this, though little.
A malfunctioning thyroid can disrupt blood sugar levels too. Eating a proper diabetic nutrition, maintaining normal body weight and performing daily 30-60 minutes of exercise helps to control blood sugar levels. If you're currently taking medication/drugs be sure to check with your local pharmacist to see if any elevate blood sugars.
) I just have a question as to how high ones sugar should be right after eating. I have been sick with walking pneumonia for the past few days and have been mostly drinking alot of orange juice (the medication I am having to take for it is making me really thirsty!
I do and I'm a bit worried about this liquid diet protocol/bowel prep before hysterectomy. My blood sugar tends to drop very low if I skip meals, I don't want to faint and scare the family even BEFORE I get in the OR!
The times to test are mornings before breakfast, before each lunch and dinner meals and 2-3 hours after each meal. Before meals so you can get a baseline reading. After meals so you can see how the foods you ate affected your glucose levels. Normal after meal levels are <180 mg/dl [<=less than] where some doctors want <140 mg/dl. If you go over these numbers avoid those foods. Your A1c will show how well you are controlling and managing your glucose. The goal is below 6%.
By doing this you will also learn which foods make your blood sugars high (and you can then avoid them). if your blood sugars stay high even with lifestyle measures then medications (oral such as metformin, or injected insulin if your sugars were very high) would be recommended. Please read up on diabetes and it's management. I would strongly recommend you consider adopting a lower carb diet, exercise daily (ideally a minimum of 30 - 60 minutes), and normalise weight. Hope this helps.
At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.
so this whole time when i started to feal hypo when my blood sugar was in the 90, it was really in the 70 and below. the endo said i have low sugars and i have to see a dietitian tomorrow to learn how to keep my sugars up. she didnt tell me why my sugars are dropping low at all. all she said is that its probably my diet. how does your diet make you have low sugars? so any one can have hypo or can it be something that is causing it and i need to be on a special diet to keep them up.
I definitely think his blood sugar is too high going from the sounds of your comments. Make sure you take his blood sugar before he eats to get an accurate reading, always use an alcohol wipe to clean the area before testing as any food or substance on the testing could cause a higher reading if not clean, and test before meals and just before bed would be my opinion.
You may need a glucose challenge test where you are given sugar liquid to drink and blood tests for sugar levels drawn before and every hour after for up to four hours. Sometimes changing your diet can help as can the amount of time between meals (more frequent meals but smaller portions). Talking with a dietitian can also be helpful. Machelle M.
Hello, Normal blood sugars in pregnant women are actually LOWER than normal blood sugars in non-pregnant persons. The totally normal range in pregnancy is somewhere between about 65 and 100. A blood sugar of 79 30 minutes or so after eating is totally normal, and shows no signs of diabetes at all. You should be very pleased with this number. Of course, eat healthy and avoid excess sweets. Take regular moderate exercise. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy.
I took him to the hospital on friday night with an outer and inner ear infection. While there his blood sugar was in the 400s. It was brought down befor we left. I was told to keep a close eye on his levels and to follow up with his primary doctor. The soonest they can see him is the 8th. He just checked and his blood sugar is 452. He took his meds. (metformin and glipizide) What can we do? Should we go to the hospital?
The key to knowing what you can eat is to test, test, test. If you want to eat oranges, eat one and then test two hours later and make sure your blood sugar is under 140. If not, then you either can't eat oranges or you might have to eat 1/2 an orange. As for waking in the middle of the night to urinate, this can be caused by high blood sugars. Again, test to see where your blood sugars are at. Good for you on making some great changes in your lifestyle; it really makes a difference!
She ordered some blood work and I got my results today. She said everything was fine except my blood sugar level was 31. The doctor said that normal levels are between 65 and 100. I've looked online a bit and it looks like this can mean I have diabetes. I felt pretty tired when I had my blood drawn but I had eaten earlier in the day (maybe 2 hours before) and I hadn't exercised. I'm not sure what would cause my blood sugar to be that low!
Some drugs which are used for diabetes treatment lowers the glucose (sugar) level by means of increasing the level of insulin in the blood which reduce the glucose level in the blood. But Metformin doesn’t reduce the availability of glucose in the body and doesn’t affect the level of insulin. It acts by making the receptors more sensitive to insulin which means available glucose is utilized more effectively.
I believe that some doctors consider a blood sugar higher than about 150 after a meal as diabetic. So your son's sugar levels in the 200's do warrant some tests. We wish you the best.
My mom is a diabetic and wanted to test my sugar. My blood level was 167, prior to testing I had nothing to eat my last meal was coffee around 10 am and we tested around 3:00.
