Blood sugar high when hungry

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar high when hungry

blood-sugar

1058898 tn?1275675151 The correct time to test blood sugar is two hours after eating, not one hour. There are no rules about when you can eat, though if you were high you wouldn't want to eat anything with carbs that would further raise your blood sugar.(Low carb snacks would include things like nuts, vegies, cheese or cold cuts) If you are hungry and eating an hour after a meal this is definitely a setup for weight gain!
Avatar n tn If your blood glucose was 61 an hour or two after breakfast, especially if your breakfast was fairly high carb (such as cereal, bread, etc) you might have a specific type of hypoglycemia called reactive hypoglycemia which is people who have low blood sugar after a meal high in carbs. I would suggest seeing your doctor and getting tested to see what type of hypoglycemia you have and to make sure you aren't pre-diabetes.
Avatar n tn GD is high sugar levels. If you are GD then you should by rights be monitoring you blood sugar levels (BSL) at the least 3 times a day. Also you should have been informed of what foods to avoid and what is ok to eat. I was informed that carbs are ok in proportion. You also must eat 5 small meals spaced evenly through the day. Low GI foods are great. Talk to your dr if you have GD you may need insulin and more intensive care or monitoring. It's not something to rely on half guesses with.

Avatar f tn Thanks both of you! Very helpful!
Avatar f tn i have been really hungry for high sugar foods/ candy! I used to hate candy. but now i crave it regularly. I've been going to the bathroom a lot, and i've been really tired. I'm having a lot of trouble getting out of bed when my dog comes and wakes me up for school. My grandma (my dads mom) recently passed away last year and she had type 2 diabetes. so does my grandpa on my moms side. I weight 172 and my height is 5 foot, and I am 14 1/2 years old. Please tell me what i should do..
Avatar n tn I am being screened for type 2 Diabetes. My mother has it, my grandfather had it and my brother is borderline.I have been testing my blood sugar and it ranges from fasting 88 to 156 2hrs after meals. My physicians assistant insists these are normal swings in a day. If I don't eat dinner or try not to eat, my blood sugar is high when I wake up. I can't seem to find a pattern.
Avatar n tn After I gave him something really sweet to drink about 45 minutes later he was ready to eat. So do we have a problem with low sugar or high sugar? Is this something to worry about? He cant't talk so he can't tell us how he feels. My husband won't have insurance until the end of April. So were kinda stuck at the moment with being able to get anyone to help us. We were also told that since his seizures last that long we should really be worrying about brain deteriation.
Avatar f tn But the tricky thing about blood sugar is the symptoms are pretty much the same if your sugar is to high, as they are when its to low. Are you a diabetic? Does this run in your family? You should eat regular meals. My dietian says it is healthier to eat 6-7 small meals a day than 3 large ones. You are not as hungry between meals and do not tend to over eat. But not eating can cause your sugar to drop and can be just as dangerous as it being to high.
Avatar f tn I m Type-1 diabetic from last 15 years and my blood sugar level used to be under control but from last 2 Weeks, my sugar level fluctuates a lot. Fasting blood sugar is nearly around 300 : before dinner around 500 and after dinner its around 400.There is no change in my diet, exercise or my daily routine pattern. Even I take short acting insulin(novorapid) when my sugar level goes beyond 300 but it doesn't make much difference. I m really worried.
Avatar f tn All these things greatly influence blood sugar. If you have been unable to get your blood sugar stable at all, these are things you need to work on. I hope your husband gets better soon.
Avatar m tn No, with blood sugar in range, and eating several times a day, you shouldn't be hungry all the time. Are you getting enough calories in general? Enough protein? Are you eating a very restricted diet? Are you losing weight? You might want to have your thyroid checked if you never have. You might want to ask for a referral to a nutritionist to help you balance your diet out so you are getting enough food to satisfy your hunger (without raising your blood sugar).
Avatar f tn Hypoglycemia/ low blood sugar would be considered blood sugar levels less than about 70. Your result of 103 is normal, not hypoglycemia. It is likely that your symptoms may be from other causes. Sometimes headaches can be a sign of not drinking enough - so a glass of water and a few minutes to relax / be quiet - may help a lot. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn The other possibility is diabetes (this you have), hyperthyroid states and worms in the gut. All can keep you hungry 24x7. Hence get this tested. Get a repeat blood sugar both fasting and 2 hours after food, thyroid panel and stool test. Hunger can be controlled. Keep a diary of what you eat. Some food stuffs make you hungry earlier where as others do not. Remove all high calorie and high glycemic index food items from your house.
Avatar f tn Eat protein before working out, but avoid anything containing sugar for at least an hour beforehand. This ensures that your blood sugar level is high enough at the beginning of your workout routine and does not take a sudden drop. If you continue to experience vomiting with every ensuing running session, see your Dr. who can evaluate you for an underlying condition. Also, you may be exercising too intensely and need to back off.
Avatar f tn However, afterwards, I find myself getting hungry even more quickly. I presume this has to do with the sugar causing an insulin spike which in turn causing blood glucose level to drop and triggering the hunger response. So I avoid anything sweet at night. But I do like carbohydrates---wholegrain breads and pasta, brown rice etc + plenty of olive/sesame oil + small amount of cheese/egg/meat/fish. But I'm getting sick of eating these things because I eat so much, and I'm still ravenous.
Avatar m tn 8% A1c result implies your glucose [blood sugar] is not borderline as you think. Using the eAG [estimated Average Glucose] formula to convert the A1c to an daily glucose average equates to 148.46 mg/dl, well into diabetes land. And, having postprandial [after meal 2-3 hrs] readings over 400 mg/dl is dangerous.
1058898 tn?1275675151 my labs were coming back as below 70. so this whole time when i started to feal hypo when my blood sugar was in the 90, it was really in the 70 and below. the endo said i have low sugars and i have to see a dietitian tomorrow to learn how to keep my sugars up. she didnt tell me why my sugars are dropping low at all. all she said is that its probably my diet. how does your diet make you have low sugars?
Avatar f tn Sounds like to me there is a blood sugar issue. The constant feeling of hunger is also a sign of a possible ulcer in the stomache.
Avatar n tn I have since learned that cortisol controls your blood sugar levels. when I originally went on hydrocortisone, my fasting blood sugar jumped up to 113--which is too high, but it eventually has evened out to be normal over time--plus, the A1c test, that tests your average blood sugar levels over a 3 month period, was normal. When my blood sugar would drop, I would get extremely hungry and would want to just keep eating until the feeling went away.
Avatar f tn High blood sugar (which can be caused by interferon) can cause the hunger you describe. Let your doctor know and ask him to check your blood sugar (fasting).
Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.
