Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar high and low

blood-sugar

Avatar n tn 8 hours later we took him to the health department and they checked his sugar (by drawing blood from his arm) and it was 112 and they said he wasn't diabetic and that the finger ***** test wasn't very accurate. They thought that the seizure caused his sugar to go up. The last time he had ate anything was 12 hours before the seizure.
Avatar f tn My blood sugar is 78, feeling cold and jittery and wondering if that is too high of a number to be causing it. Since last Thursday I have been unable to eat much, and what I do eat has been immediately removed (diarrhea). I was diabetic in my last pregnancy and still needing to lose weight so I have been checking my sugars just to see if maybe that is why I feeling so low right now. Thanks for the help.
Avatar f tn This would involve evaluation of c-peptide, antibodies, and insulin levels correlated with blood sugar levels. Type 1 is lack of insulin (and needs injected insulin), Type 2 is plenty of insulin, but there is insulin resistance and the insulin is not effective. For Type 2, oral meds may be appropriate. If it is adult onset type 1, it may develop quickly. Therefore, I suggest your read up on syptoms of both type 1 and type 2 and if you develop symptoms then you must go to your Dr.
Avatar f tn My mom and both grandmothers have/had diabetes but they also were overweight, had big bellies and ate horribly, smoked and never exercised. I have low blood pressure sometimes too...never had high blood pressure. I would think diabetes would be highly unlikely.....???
Avatar f tn If you continue with blood sugars this high your body is going to fail and you will have major complications which will lead to death.
Avatar f tn Has anyone dealt with low blood sugar during pregnancy? I took my 1 hr glucose test- I had black coffee prior to the drinking the glucose drink, then 1 hr of nothing and my blood draw. My level came back at 65. My midwiNenmade a passing comment about it bein low and watching for symptoms of lightheadedness but wasn't concerned. What were your numbers if you were deemed low blood sugar? Any other symptoms? Thanks!
Avatar f tn If you have problems with low blood sugar that is called hypoglycemia. Anybody can become hypoglycemic, especially if they aren't eating enough or have a high metabolism. You could talk to your doctor about your specific situation but it sounds like your nurse already gave suggestions about eating more often to keep your sugars up to a normal level.
Avatar f tn I've been hypoglycemic (have low blood sugar) since I was very little. You need to have peanut butter crackers or some almonds on hand at all times if you're getting low blood sugar. Gum will only help for a little while. Candies and stuff are high in sugar but they don't last as long. The protein in nuts and peanut butter raises your sugar and keeps it up for a good while.
1058898 tn?1275675151 all she told me was that my diet is my problem. first thing she does not know what diet i have. so they put me on a diet of all wheat or whole grains no white, lots of protein with every meal and to eat 6 times a day and eat fat. She said nothing with my high number. that's why i think my a1c was not so low as to high because i would get lows and high. I feel low all the time so i have to eat all day to keep them up. she said my number for high are not high and not to worry about them.
Avatar f tn Various things can lead to low blood sugars. If you go without eating for a period of time, your blood sugar can drop, or if you exercise strenuously (especially if you do both in combination). If you are on insulin than taking too much insulin for the carbs you are eating can definitely cause low blood sugars and these can be the more dangerous kind because you can drop very rapidly. If you are getting frequent lows, talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of insulin resistance? This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.
246464 tn?1249452147 I have have had it go as low as 34, and paramedics were amazed I was still conscious. When it drops I also get anxiety and panic. All Doctors have told me is to eat frequent meals- Anyone else suffer from this?
2104507 tn?1333752737 hello, please I need a help I'm not that great in medical vocabulary but I will try my best to explain my situation. 4250330 tn?1388621179 What Can I Eat For Low Blood Sugar I Feel Really Shaky And My Hearts Beating Fast And Everything This Happened Last Time I Thought My Blood Sugar Was Low.. Im 31 Weeks and 6 Days pregnant..
Avatar n tn If your blood glucose was 61 an hour or two after breakfast, especially if your breakfast was fairly high carb (such as cereal, bread, etc) you might have a specific type of hypoglycemia called reactive hypoglycemia which is people who have low blood sugar after a meal high in carbs. I would suggest seeing your doctor and getting tested to see what type of hypoglycemia you have and to make sure you aren't pre-diabetes.
Avatar f tn But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.
Avatar n tn I know lots of people who have been brainwashed that they cannot eat fat, and they end up eating ultra high protein. But, their blood sugar is a huge problem, going high and low, and they hit the wall during parts of the day where they need to drink tons of coffee to stay awake and they get raging hunger. In fact, I used to be brainwashed about the fat phobia too. When I took the leap and tested LCHF way of eating, I was remarkably impressed with the results.
Avatar n tn I really believe this is all being caused by fluctuating hormones, since my symptoms of lightheadedness and low blood sugar occur before my period and a little during. I am also working on my diet, no sugar and adding a lot of vegetables and juicing. It's been helping me with less low sugar symptoms. May try adding progesterone cream( Pro-gest) only after checking with my OBGYN to see if my levels need it. Take care and hope you start feeling better.
1773108 tn?1314158067 More important is what I was eating as I eliminated many foods from my diet. Breads and pasta turn into sugar as soon as he eats it and it can raise his Glucose levels high. He may want to see his doctor and get classes on changin his eating habits and foods he should have. If you are cooking for him, you may want to attend this class with him so that you can help him. My wife is not a diabetic but she cooks for both of us. She has lost a lot of weight doing what I do. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
