Avatar f tn I am a type II diabetic and I would like to know what is considered a "good" blood sugar reading for me when I test at different times of the day....before meals, after meals, fasting in the morning, at bedtime and other random times during the day.
Avatar m tn Not everyone can tolerate medicine/drugs alike. Glucophage, or commonly known as Metformin, MUST be taken with foods or one will experience nausea/upset stomach. If irritation continues discuss with your doctor these other medications as I'm not aware of what is available to you in your country of residence. http://www.*************.com/diabetes/find-drug.html "Please advise me what foods to avoid.... eat alot of bread and rice.
Avatar f tn fruit juices [fructose aka fruit sugar] also can cause blood sugar to rise [so serving sizes and moderation are important]. With fruit it’s important to eat them with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose. I'm NOT saying that these foods aren't allowed. What I AM saying is that you need to use care and follow the guidelines for diabetics – avoid sugar, avoid bad carbs, avoid sugary liquids, eat proper foods.
Avatar m tn For diabetics it can go either way. Treatment can cause the blood sugar to go up or down. But if the diabetes is not under good control before starting treatment for Hep C, it lowers your chances of success. Adverse events are also more common on diabetics. I have NEVER seen diabetes go away after treatment. I have seen the blood sugar improve but diabetes disappear? Never.
Avatar m tn Hi, if you want to check, then measure a known amount of steel cut oats (not instant type) and cook it with water. You can then add milk and / or cream, but no sugar. Measure your blood sugar 2 hours after eating. If your blood sugar is < 140 (or even better less than 120) then you know you can eat that amount of oatmeal. If your blood sugar is higher than 120/ 140, then you could try eating a lesser amount the next time you try it.
Avatar f tn (fruit, unfortunately, is high in carbs and tends to spike the blood sugar of Type 2 diabetics). A blood sugar of 160 is too high; you should be testing at two hours and by three it should be significantly down from that. Rather than look for fad diets, it is much more useful to make these changes, add regular exercise and then test regularly two hours after meals to see how various foods affect your blood sugar to get it under 140.
Avatar f tn Are there any weight-loss dietary guidelines for diabetics on the internet that she could access (or a recommended book) before visiting her MD, to be better prepared for her visit?
Avatar n tn I hope you can get a blood sugar meter to monitor your blood sugar. if you use the meter then you will find out which foods raise your blood sugar and which don't, and then you can adjust your diet accordingly. hope this is helpful for you. Please do ask any further questions you have.
Avatar n tn Anyway, my post this evening is somewhat of another rant, I give blood frequently with the Red Cross/VA blood services and I wanted to do something differant, the whole blood donor guidelines are supposidly true for the other services. (in particular, apheresis donation)Apheresis is when they circulate/collect red blood cells through an IV line into a machine.
Avatar f tn What I AM saying is that you need to use care and follow the guidelines for diabetics. Avoid tropical fruits such as pineapples, mangoes, guava for they contain high amounts of fructose. For low carb recipes go to the Atkins web site. Be sure your mother regularly sees her doctor and takes her medication as instructed.

1096641 tn?1271707225 "Is my itchiness related to my blood sugar?" My answer is yes and no. Irregular blood glucose can cause itchiness. Liver damage can cause it too. I say this because of your Addiction Recovery profile, which I must congratulate you on for your road to recovery. When itchy does liquid [water or lotion] applied to the itchy area provide temporary relief? If yes, seek referral to a Gastroenterologist and get a either Contrasted CT Scan or a biopsy of the liver.
Avatar m tn I have a cousin whose blood sugar levels often rise over 300s. This has been over a couple of years now. I am really concerned about him but unfortunately he doesn't seem to really care about himself and believes that the oral medications he's taking is enough. He shows no symptoms of diabetes at all. My questions are: 1. How come very high glucose levels cause no symptoms at all? (no frequent urination, thirst, blurred vision, etc) 2.
Avatar m tn Do not base your nutritional plan on the Glycemic Index or Glycemic Load. What the GI or GL fail to mention are carbohydrates. Carbs are quickly digested. The easier a food is digested the quicker its sugars enter your bloodstream. Type 2 diabetics must pay careful attention to the amount of carbs eaten. Consider carbs as an equal to table sugar. On nutrition labels carb sugars are listed in grams. Every 7 grams equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar.
Avatar n tn Two days ago, after 10 days in intensive care he was moved to the regular pediatric floor however his ketones are still at 2000 and the doctors are puzzled why they keep going down then up for no apparent reason. His blood sugar levels vary (400 down to 150) based on what he eats and how much insulin he is given. Still working our the kinks in getting him stablized. Does anyone have any idea what else may be going on to cause all this?
Avatar m tn He is on medication for sugar control and has also started medication for triglycerides, blood pressure and thyroid. Before travelling abroad he went for cardiac profile and found that his arteries are narrow by 30%. There is plaque near one of the joints (near v-shape). We consulted few doctors and they all advised him to have by-pass surgery. Can't it be cured with diet and medication? I have read about Chia seeds doing wonders. Please advise.
Avatar m tn Is caliory restrictions good for diabetics? And is fasting going to drop the blood glucose levels too low that diabetics can't sustain concentration and strength thought out the mornings? Intermittent fasting tends to last 12 to 16 hours usually done from 7pm 11am.
