Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar during pregnancy

blood-sugar

Avatar f tn I have been on it before and all thru my pregnancy for my diabetes. It wasn't enough alone for my sugar during pregnancy so I also needed insulin.
Avatar f tn Has anyone dealt with low blood sugar during pregnancy? I took my 1 hr glucose test- I had black coffee prior to the drinking the glucose drink, then 1 hr of nothing and my blood draw. My level came back at 65. My midwiNenmade a passing comment about it bein low and watching for symptoms of lightheadedness but wasn't concerned. What were your numbers if you were deemed low blood sugar? Any other symptoms? Thanks!
1428481 tn?1340593131 I called my doctor today just to let them know about the dizzy spells and they checked my blood sugar, my blood pressure and my iron. All of them were within the normal range but my iron was right at the very bottom of the normal range. The dr told me that I am borderline anemic so I need to eat some sort of protein every 2 hours! I hope that works because I don't want to become anemic! Thank you all for your input, it was all very helpful!

Avatar f tn Yeah I am not sure. I stayed away from all sugar substitutes, however I have know people who drank a diet coke everyday when pregnant. So it is up to you! I am with mumita though...try to stay as natural as possible.
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
Avatar n tn How has her BP been during the pregnancy? Most women experience an INCREASE in BP as pregnancy progresses due to increase in blood volume.
Avatar f tn But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.
231441 tn?1333892766 Regardless of the results of your glucose test, you should continue to keep an eye on your blood sugars during your pregnancy because you are at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes given your history. You will stil need to gain adequate weight to nourish your baby, but you should aim for about 25-30 pounds during the pregnancy and not too much over that, so that you can limit your chances of having abnormal glucoses during the pregnancy. Hope this helps. Good luck and take care!
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had extreme blood sugar drops? Mine gets to where i lose vision and cant walk or almost hurl everywhere:'( i already struggle with hyperglacimia would pregnancy make it worse??
Avatar n tn By eating at night you may be able to help your morning blood sugar be a bit lower. When you have extended fasting your liver can put out glucose. By eating a small snack you may be able to prevent your liver doing this. hope this helps. Please come back and let us know how you're going. Often diabetes in preganncy will get worse as the pregnancy progresses (insulin resistance increases as the pregnancy progresses and the placenta grows).
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar n tn Is 130 high for blood sugar?

Avatar f tn Im sure its safe to eat during pregnancy however i dont know that it will help bring down blood sugar. I have gd and my doc told me try and stay away from fruit because of the natural sugars. But i would ask.
Avatar f tn High sugar can be dangerous for baby and make baby grow big. So it's important to keep it under control. I have it also. I eat balanced meals low carb high protein and I take 2.5mg of glyburide at night and my sugar is under control. Diet is really important. Some people have to take insulin.
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that it sounds like you are experiencing episodes of low blood sugar which many women have during pregnancy. A good suggestion that can help with symptoms is to keep a bit of something in your stomach all the time Many women have told me about Cheerios, or Goldfiish Crackers These symptoms do NOT mean that you have diabetes, but if my patients have a suspicious history or family history of diabletes, I might suggest a few blood sugar checks too.
