Avatar m tn Is caliory restrictions good for diabetics? And is fasting going to drop the blood glucose levels too low that diabetics can't sustain concentration and strength thought out the mornings? Intermittent fasting tends to last 12 to 16 hours usually done from 7pm 11am.
Avatar n tn Dear melgonzales64, i am a diabetic like you and not a doctor or medical professional. Alcohal has many different effects on diabetics which is why the American Diabetes Association recomends diabetics only drink two drinks a day. If you take insulin for the alcohol it will just lower your blood sugar since alcohol doesn't need insulin for it to be digested.
Avatar m tn For diabetics it can go either way. Treatment can cause the blood sugar to go up or down. But if the diabetes is not under good control before starting treatment for Hep C, it lowers your chances of success. Adverse events are also more common on diabetics. I have NEVER seen diabetes go away after treatment. I have seen the blood sugar improve but diabetes disappear? Never.
Avatar f tn Fasting blood sugar should be checked as soon as you wake up in the morning. If it is checked 20 minutes later it is no longer the same (it may be affected by the activity / other factors).
Avatar m tn I have been taking them at home since this reading and they have been between 102-113 every morning. With normal Trigs, normal blood pressure, normal weight in a person who exercises, does this make sense? If I am pre diabetic, I don't even know what course to take to prevent it from going into diabetes. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn We are not doctors here, and any expertise that we can claim is with type 1, not type 2 diabetics, so you may want to go to the American Diabetes Association's website at www.ada.com for more information about type 2 diabetes. But I will offer some comments here... Type 1 diabetics have an autoimmune disorder that causes their bodies' immune systems to attack and kill off their pancreas insulin-producing cells, but type 2 diabetics have working pancreas organs.
798555 tn?1292787551 A number of studies have shown that it can correct blood sugar in type-2 diabetics and improve or even eliminate insulin need in insulin-dependent diabetics. The most effective and potent form of alpha-lipoic acid is R-lipoic acid, which can be purchased without a prescription. 100 mg 30 minutes before each meal. You can increase the dose in 50 mg. increments until you reach the desired blood sugar level.
Avatar m tn IT IS THE BEST THING FOR US IN A LONG TIME. I SUGGESTED TO ADD A BLOOD SUGAR TRACKER YESTERDAY. TODAY I AM SUGGESTING A FEATURE TO HELP ACUTE DIABETICS. THE TRACKER SHOULD HAVE PRESET SAMPLE TIMES AT: (1) BEFORE 1st MEAL (2) AFTER 1st MEAL (3) MID MORNING (4) BEFORE NOON MEAL (5) AFTER NOON MEAL (6) MID AFTERNOON (7) BEFORE LAST MEAL (8) AFTER LAST MEAL (9) AT BEDTIME.
Avatar n tn When he had a seizure Friday I called 911 and the paramedics checked his blood sugar and it was 218 and they thought he might be diabetic. 8 hours later we took him to the health department and they checked his sugar (by drawing blood from his arm) and it was 112 and they said he wasn't diabetic and that the finger ***** test wasn't very accurate. They thought that the seizure caused his sugar to go up. The last time he had ate anything was 12 hours before the seizure.
Avatar m tn I have a cousin whose blood sugar levels often rise over 300s. This has been over a couple of years now. I am really concerned about him but unfortunately he doesn't seem to really care about himself and believes that the oral medications he's taking is enough. He shows no symptoms of diabetes at all. My questions are: 1. How come very high glucose levels cause no symptoms at all? (no frequent urination, thirst, blurred vision, etc) 2.
Avatar f tn If it is reactive hypoglycemia the intake of sugar will depress blood sugar further. In the other type an intake of sugar will raise blood sugar. The latter would explain why the intake of sugar helps you. I hope other people on this forum can explain it better, since my knowledge is sketchy. I have reactive hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn Dr tested my blood sugar and it was 103. He didn't seem alarmed but told me we would keep an eye on it Curious what normal is for non diabetic??
Avatar m tn As Zoelula stated, almonds, walnuts and pecans are very appropriate for a diabetic diet.
Avatar n tn If we diabetics are not well-trained on how to exercise, strenuously, while maintaining our blood sugar in a target range, we will be more likely to see rises in blood sugar. Exercise is an important component of maintaining our good health -- keeping our vascular system as clear as possible and keeping our muscles strong. Most exercise regimens require that the person get clearance from their physician to begin it.
Avatar n tn You may find that your glucose levels have dropped too low, for these are some of the symptoms of low blood sugar. Many people do mention tingling in hands when glucose levels drop too low. I would heartily recommend that the next time this happens, you do an immediate glucose test, and then perhaps test again about 45 minutes later.
Avatar f tn Told i was pre-diabetic based on fasting BS of around 125. Started monitoring and sugars rarely go below 100. Even on days when I work through lunch and forget to eat, I notice my sugar drops very very slowly. Like between 8:30-4:30 one day, i forgot to do lunch. BS started around 110 after breakfast cereal and was still 90 8hrs later. So 90 after about 20hrs without food except that bowl of cereal and milk at 8:30.
Avatar n tn 30 every afternoon. In the first week my blood sugar levels varied from a low of 65 to a high of 256. I called my dr. they brought me in and recommend a low carb high protien diet. Aferter being on the diet for two weeks I found that my blood suger would often drop low (lowest 57)and make me sick, but the high end was at still 155. Am I receiving proper care?I fell like I am being pacified by the physician. I am going to try to have a baby next year and I am very concerned at his appathy.
Avatar f tn The article about the study on hypoglycemic unawareness was published in my hometown newspaper in 2001. I remember it so clearly because I was one of those diabetics with a real problem wtih hypoglycemic unawareness. I followed the suggestions and truly my warning symptoms are great now. I still of course have occasional lows -- I think that any type 1 diabetic under tight control risks occasional lows.
Avatar n tn I've been with my boyfriend, who has type 1 diabetes, for six months now, and the longer I'm around him the more I notice that he's having low-blood sugar attacks pretty often. He virtually never has a high BS incident, but he has a low one every couple of days. They are usually "minor"--he gets a little quiet and spacey until he eats something, but every once in awhile they get scarier.
Avatar f tn I am a type II diabetic and I would like to know what is considered a "good" blood sugar reading for me when I test at different times of the day....before meals, after meals, fasting in the morning, at bedtime and other random times during the day.
Avatar n tn The insulin triggers are slow to turn off after the extra blood sugar is broken down thus, it also consumes the normal blood sugars dropping its levels. This is common in pre-diabetics as well as some other conditions. It is usually controlled with a change in eating habits (only high protein/fat food at night, no carbs after 6 PM) and often Chromium picolinate, a metabolic and blood sugar regulator, is recommended.
