Avatar f tn The times to test are mornings before breakfast, before each lunch and dinner meals and 2-3 hours after each meal. Before meals so you can get a baseline reading. After meals so you can see how the foods you ate affected your glucose levels. Normal after meal levels are <180 mg/dl [<=less than] where some doctors want <140 mg/dl. If you go over these numbers avoid those foods. Your A1c will show how well you are controlling and managing your glucose. The goal is below 6%.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar f tn I m Type-1 diabetic from last 15 years and my blood sugar level used to be under control but from last 2 Weeks, my sugar level fluctuates a lot. Fasting blood sugar is nearly around 300 : before dinner around 500 and after dinner its around 400.There is no change in my diet, exercise or my daily routine pattern. Even I take short acting insulin(novorapid) when my sugar level goes beyond 300 but it doesn't make much difference. I m really worried.
Avatar n tn Why is it that my blood sugar is higher in the morning than it was prior to going to bed the night before? For example: At night it may read 115 (this is approx. 4 hours after dinner, and no snacking). THEN - first thing in the morning, before I've had anything to eat it reads 135. After having breakfast, right before lunch time it may be 85-90. Thanks for your feedback.
Avatar f tn i have GD & they want me to test my blood sugar 2 hours after eating, & it should be under 120. some say 130. when fasting, or waking up in the morning it should be between 60-90.
Avatar m tn Take your insulin, then eat your dinner, then test your blood sugar 2 hours after starting to eat dinner. Your blood sugar should ideally not be higher than 40 units above your predinner number (ie. 140). Don't eat anything further (unless you go low early) and then test again at 3 and 5 hours. If you are low by 5 hours you will need to take a lower dose of insulin the next evening - reduce by say 2 units.
Avatar n tn How can your blood sugar be 255 at bedtime and fall to 40 at 5:30 am?
Avatar n tn At dinner I ate lasagna, salad, sweet tea. Anyway 30-45 minutes after dinner, my blood sugar was 118. Is this normal or does it seem kind of high? At the doctor last year fasting it was 91. Also, I have been suffereing from severe fatigue after my long runs and have to basically sit down for the rest of the day which I hate. I am going to start to check my blood sugar after these runs to see what it is. I eat alot after the long runs but it does not seem to help.
Avatar m tn In January my A1C was 6.8 and my sugar was also borderline. Today 6/31 I checked my sugar using my aunt's meter and it was over 400. This was about 2 hours after dinner. I'm not currently being treated for diabetes. About a month ago I started having severe dry mouth but no other symptoms. I'm currently on vacation and several states away from my doctor. Can I wait a week to see her or should I get treatment right away?
Avatar n tn If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later(after about a minute). The benefits will be noticed in weeks as the sugar level is checked daily.Over the long term the diabetes will be in full control and the medicine(if any) can be reduced in consultation with the doctor. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically.
Avatar m tn I checked my blood sugar of 196mg/dL right after my dinner (big one) at 6:30PM. I was really nervous because I had never done that before and was just curious. Then I checked one hour later at 7:30PM and it went down to 115mg/dL. I then checked again before bedtime at 11PM and it was 97mg/dL (after one hour working out). This morning I checked at 6AM and it was 78mg/dL. My question: is it normal that the blood sugar is 196mg/dL right after meal?
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar m tn recent diabetic in 3 wks. i have lost 20 lbs and exercing 40 min.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your help! I appreciate your feedback! I was wondering about the reactive hypoglycemia and if that's what it could be. This lower blood sugar after eating didn't start until my blood sugars were under the normal limits all throughout the day. I realize it wasn't that low but it was lower than what I was used to. Also, I was wondering if you might know about normal insulin levels? She checked my insulin level and it was 6, she said 0-25 was normal???
Avatar n tn it just never occurred to me to set my schedule to test once before breakfast, 2-3 hours after breakfast, once before lunch, 2-3 hours AFTER lunch, before dinner, and 2-3 hours after dinner, etc. Glucose levels can then be seen dropping or rising and she can adjust her insulin or drink some juice accordingly, BEFORE something severe happens to her. She might want to start always carrying 2 small 6-oz.
Avatar n tn I am proud to say her blood sugar has been within range every time I have checked over past 5 days. Except... Her blood sugar has tested low all four times I tested either while she was in bath or just out. She has tested between 57 and 68. Is anyone aware of "wrinkled fingers" from exposure to water causing low blood sugar readings? Her bath is just luke warm not REAL hot.
Avatar n tn I finally tested again after eating dinner and my sugar got to 90 but the odd thing is the more in range my sugar got the worse my head hurt almost like I had a hangover
Avatar m tn The blood sugar numbers you provide show your levels to be running slightly elevated most of the time. Normal blood sugar is 65-110. The goal of your treatment is to keep your blood sugar within those limits at all times. I would suggest that you speak with your endocrinologist about how best to adjust your diet and insulin to maintain your blood sugar within normal limits.
Avatar n tn Has anyone noticed any difference in blood sugar numbers while regularly taking Ibuprofen, or other NSAIDS? I've had some health anxiety, and stopped taking ibuprofen in fear of kidney issues. But I notice my post dinner readings have been worse. I was only taking about 600mg before bed daily. Would that still effect blood sugar by dinner time the next day? Glad I'm off the pills. Just scared will affect BS control.
Avatar n tn So i am guessing its the dinner thats causing this. Also No physical activity after dinner. I am not having early dinner. Eating once at 6pm and later again at 9 pm. Learning to use the meter now. Will work on the food vs sugar level. Thanks super_sally888.
Avatar f tn I need answers as to what to do about my blood sugar levels. I am 32 weeks pregnant and tested positive for gestational diabetes. They put me on a diet that's driving me crazy. Sometimes I barely eat anything for a meal and my blood sugar level comes so high. For instance I ate a quarter bowl of rice with a grilled pork chop and lots of steamed vegetables for dinner and walked after my meal and my blood sugar level was 9.7. Has anyone had this problem? I really do not want to take insulin.
