Avatar f tn Your hepatologist should reduce the amount of interferon (180 to 90 mcg) you are taking to try to raise your platelet count. Actually if your platelets go below 25,000 treatment should be stopped. Maybe you have already decreased the interferon? Then they will probably give you a platelet transfusion to bring the count up, although a transfusion will only temporarily raise your platelets.
Avatar m tn Tomorrow i have appointment with my doc,no mam doc neither suggest any lab test like yours husband nor suggest any medicine for platelets..besides low platelets count her blood HB dropped to 8.3 with 3400 WBC.. you have mentioned promacta to boost platelets count...kindly tell me is your husband's blood HB and wbc is normal during pegasys therapy or continuously dropped. thanks your kind response is helpful for me for early diagnosed.
Avatar m tn Like Lynn, my platelets Increased during treatment with Harvoni and Riba - over 100 for the first time in years but when I stopped treatment, they went down again to 70 but that may be because I am cirrhotic and low platelets kinda come with the territory in that regard Definitely talk to your doc about this as low platelets can cause one to bruise or bleed more easily and it may be something that has nothing to do with your current drug regimen Good luck on your treatment!

Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen. White blood cells help fight infection and platelets help in wound healing. Anemia leads to fatigue and shortness of breath. Leukopenia makes you susceptible to infections and thrombocytopenia makes you prone to easy bruising and bleeding. http://www.livestrong.
2025701 tn?1328919633 Only people with cirrhosis or other platelet issues need to worry about platelets dropping dangerously low. 20,000 or less. Interferon causes all treating persons platelets to drop to some degree. Obviously the more platelets you start with before treatment, the higher the platelet count will stay. For people with cirrhosis who want or need to continue treatment they can have a transfusion of platelets every so often or Promacta, a drug that raises platelet counts.
Avatar f tn I have never treated and was just informed that I am not eligible for any clinical trials because my platelets are too low. I am Geno 1A, stage 2+ (last platelet count 79,000). I am now just wondering if there is anything I can do to raise my platelets before I start the triple therapy.
Avatar f tn I am on week 5 of double dose peg and reba treatment My platelets count showed at 60 WBC and RBC down as well. My doctor told me that if my platelets god down any further they will have to reduce my TX to a single dose until my platelets go up. I have treated before on single dose plus Riba for 48 weeks.and the Hep C came back I believe my best chances of SVR are double dose Peg with Riba until UND period then balance of single dose until 72 weeks are completed.
Avatar m tn In other words, how low would a doctor allow those levels to get before giving the person platelets or whole blood? Thank you.
Avatar f tn What is the danger zone for low platelets...mine are ok as of now, but steadily declining every blood test, just wondering.
7510956 tn?1411671417 A platelet count of 115,000 is not very low for someone with cirrhosis. 150,000 is the common low end of the lab range. Commonly class A, compensated cirrhotics with portal hypertension have platelet counts in the 50,000 - 80,000 range. Many of us have lived many years with platelet counts half of your current platelet count. It is only when the platelet count is below 20,000 that it can become dangerous although different doctors have different comfort ranges.

Avatar m tn what can I do to keep the platelet count up as much as possible? Last time I started treatment at platelet count 119 and went down to 60. How can I keep the count above 40 when starting at 70?
Avatar m tn So sorry to hear you had to stop treatment because of your low platelet count. Platelets dropping during treatment is to be expected and is caused by the interferon. Since you started with a count of 70,000 that doesn't give you many platelets to drop. Once you get in the 20ks most doctors will stop treatment. Although some docs will stop at higher levels also. Normal platelet count range is between 150,000-400,000.
Avatar m tn My question, is the platelet count too low to get treatment? I will get treatment at Kaiser so I not sure If I trust them, My family has had otther problems with them concerning thier diagnoses & treatments. Also has anyone recieved TX through Kaiser? I was told I would inject them myself, but how do they deliver the meds? mail? every week? or 1 month supply?

Avatar m tn Vitamin B12 deficiency mimics MS. This is nothing to mess around with as permanent nerve damage will occur if not treated in time. If your B12 serum levels are lower than 800pg/mL or 600pmol/L you need a boost to optimal range. Check out the book: Could It Be B12?: An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses by Sally M. Pacholok RN, Jeffrey J. 6708370 tn?1471490210 Low Platelets on treatment is caused if one is taking Interferon. Low platelets and anemia our two different things. Anemia is mainly due to Riba and no there are no symptoms of low platelets as their is when one is anemic. And yes yours are very low. Mine run around 60 due to being cirrhotic. Could there be a problem only if one would have an accident where there is a lot of bleeding. Always make sure even if you go to the dentist they are aware of your low platelet level.
Avatar n tn A low white blood cell count is to be expected while on treatment. The interferon injection is responsible for that. The thing is that the docs don't want it to go "too low." It seems that your doc is on top of things and is watching it. If your doc decides he needs to re-evaluate your dosage, ask him/her about a shot of Neupogen instead of reducing your meds.
