blood

Avatar f tn My concern is that when I try to clear the roof of my mouth... like snort to remove mucus.. my mucus has blood in it. Is this something to worry about ?
Avatar f tn The brown phlegm takes on this characteristic color due to these changes in hue once blood has dried out or gotten old. Most of the time, when blood is present in the mucus, it will present itself as such or as brown phlegm. However sometimes, the presence of blood in mucus can result in a black appearance as well. You should see your doctor, especially if you're having fever and weight loss.
Avatar m tn As for the mucus in your throat, if you have Post-nasal drip the blood in your nose will mix with the mucus and run down your throat. In case you are worried, rest assured that dark blood in your stool is more indicative of a gastrointestinal problem than if it is in your upper respiratory system.
Avatar m tn m hacking up strings of blood. Sometimes its blood strings, and others are just yellow or clear mucus. But its not like I cough up really bad and blood comes out. Its when I hack up and it makes that ugly sound. I feel a little dizzy and weak now. But Could the blood be from irritated nose and throat from constantly doing that.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from excess mucus which lodges in my throat for about 3+ years now. It causes me fatigue, and it interferes with daily life, e.g. coughing up mucus all day into sink, tissues, etc. It has not let up, except for about 2 days. I have gone to approximately six doctors and no one has determined the cause nor does anyone have any ideas. I have had a car load of tests run, e.g.
Avatar n tn This blood is surely not a sign of lung cancer, given your age, your trivial smoking history and the normal chest x-ray and CT scan. Blood in one's phlegm should never be ignored but you should not need any further testing beyond the imaging you have already had. And, it should not be assumed that the "speckle of blood" came from your lungs. The normal CT and x-ray suggest it didn't. It is just as likely to have originated in your nose, throat or sinuses.
Avatar n tn I have a cold, am not a smoker but am coughing up blood in my phlegm.
Avatar n tn Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies. Please check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis. If you have chronic sinusitis then it can lead to continuous production of mucus and less drainage leading to post nasal drip.
Avatar n tn Shortly after things got worse and I also developed constant mucus/phlegm which is clear-colored and almost thick as gum. I went to the ENT which suggested my symptoms are related to acid reflux and prescribed Prevacid. After a month on the medication, I felt no improvement at all. It seems as though the situation only deteriorated as I'm now also having a bit of trouble breathing.
Avatar n tn I have been coughing up phlegm and only twice has it happened where i have coughed up phlegm with streaks of blood in it. I do not smoke, take drugs or drink. Can you help me?
Avatar n tn The normal lining of the lung clears phlegm by lifting it up and delivering it down the esophagus (you can think of this as the food pipe). The normal situation then is that, phlegm is swallowed in small, regulated amounts that it is entirely automatic (there is no need to push it down voluntarily in the manner of swallowing a lump of food). Smoking destroys the lining, and hence to clear phlegm – the lungs must cough it out. Hence, the cough may be persistent.
Avatar n tn been coughing for a couple of weeks little bit of fever very tired went to a walk in clinic a couple of days ago and the Doctor said it was mostly allergies gave me antibotics, congestion, cough syurp, nasal spray....this morning when I woke up I was coughing up blood in my phlegm the first 3 times then it cleared up....
Avatar n tn Hello, I am not sure this is right section for this question, but I guess its the most relevant since I couldn't find one for sore throats. I have been having a bit of phlegm build up in my throat for a while now, almost three weeks. I have been drinking 2 litres of water per day, gargling water with baking soda, hot tea. I have not had any recent allergies, barely a bit of snot because of the cold (im in the southern hemisphere). I smoke one or two cigarrettes per day at a maximum.
Avatar m tn I just horked up some blood in my phlegm, this is the first time this has ever happened. Tho if I recall, it might've happened a few months ago as well, should I be worried? Also, I just started Meditating a few weeks ago, thus I breathe deeper during those sessions, could that be a reason?
Avatar m tn I was put on nebulized Mucomyst (in addition to nebulized Duoneb) and for the first time in years my lungs were clear of phlegm - totally clear. No more choking myself to exhaustion. However for some reason this is no longer on the market (this may be temporary). However what you can do is take an over-the-counter mucolitic. The only worthwhile one is Guaifenesin. You don't want to get Mucinex which has other ingredients, but plain guaifenesin. Also, take 500 mg of vitamin B5.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D supplements, as Red_Star suggested, are a good idea. You might want to get your D3 levels checked. The test is relatively inexpensive. You should be using an expectorant such as Guaifenesen (Brand names Albatussin EX, Allfen Jr., Altorant...) to assist in breaking up the mucus. Drink plenty of fluids with this medication. You don't want to rupture blood vessels from the coughing. You might also try an electric nebulizer filled with a little sterile normal saline.
Avatar f tn Ive been a smoker for years now, and while I havent been able to get vaping to work for me to quit - Ive totally noticed my phlegm and mucus getting much much workse lately. I think it might be somehting in the air like allergies down here making me more and more sick than Ive probably ever been - I wish you the best of luck in getting well!
Avatar n tn In the mornings there are much more dark pieces in clear phlegm, and when it randomly happens throughout the day, it is just small specks or chunks encased in clear phlegm. I have never coughed up any blood at all, and I have no other symptoms of illness, no fever, chills, etc..
Avatar m tn Moreover, the cough with so much blood coming out from my mouth and nose stopped about 3 years ago but it happened like that for over 4 years before it just stopped on its pwn.And in the last few years, l have been coughing and it produces phlegm in the form of mucus that is sometimes brownish and at other times with the look of pus.Truth is that the phlegm/mucus smells very badly. Sometimes, l perceive the foul smell around my nose and inside of my throat and nose.
Avatar n tn I'm 18 years old, don't smoke nor live around smokers, and have no blood history of pulmonary ailments like asthma, etc. Still, I was diagnosed with tuberculosis last December 2006 and took prescribed medication until June 2007. I thought I was problem-free from then on, but recently (around March 20, 2008), I've had trouble with excessive coughing and extremely adhesive yellowish-green phlegm for almost 2 weeks. Then for the next seven days, I took an antibiotic and Endorsteine(?
Avatar f tn What started as a sore throat has affected my lungs, difficulty breathing,(mainly exhaling)(raspy sound in throat when exhaling) coughing up rust, white and yellow mucus. I start to feel better, and then bam it gets worse. now it feels like there is gross mucus trapped in my lungs, & i dont know how to get it out. Sometimes after i cough, the phlegm is so bad it makes me sick to my stomach. I dont want to go to Dr. to be told its just a virus.
