Common Questions and Answers about Blood in mucus nasal

blood

The pains are gone but the blood in nasal mucus (both bright red and dark) is still there and it is really getting me down now as it has dragged on (on and off) for over 12 months. I have discussed this situation with my GP a number of times over the last twelve months and he says (in a nutshell) that my age (36) and other factors such as not working within at-risk industries means he isn't worried. I don't know whether or not to request a second referral.
whenever i suck out mucus i find some blood in it and a couple of times when i blow my nose i see some blood too... i have been suffering from runny nose and i have been also coughing for like about 2 weeks and i have only used otrivin for the runny nose... what could be wrong with me?
More often than not there is blood in my mucus, however I also tend to wake up or am unable to sleep because of an extremely dry cough. I am worried as to the contagious nature. However I am not nor have I been running a fever. Just extremely achy and miserable.
these sheets for work and so touching them, discovered, with my orror that were present some fresh nasal mucus (ooze is the right word ?) in which there were really minuscule traces of blood ( I had to use a magnifing glass to note them....) - there weren't blood really "painting" mucus.
I am in the process of getting rid of a cold and for the past couple days I have been finding blood in my mucus when I blow my nose. It subsided for some time but returned. I have no clue as to what it could be and this has never happened to me before. What could it be and what should I do?
Just recently I started feeling stuffy at night and feeling post nasal drip at night with a dry cough. I have only noticed the blood in my nose mucus tonight and wanted to know if this was another sign of an infection?

Off and on I notice streaks of blood in the mucus in my throat. I have allergies and always have post nasal drip. The mucus is clear, not discolored so I don't think it's an infection. I don't smoke or drink. Can allergies cause blood in your mucus? I don't have the money to go to an ENT and my reg doctor told me he doesn't know. Oh, also, when I notice the blood, I haven't had a bloody nose or picked my nose or anything.
It seemed to help somewhat, however this morning when I woke up their was a small amount of blood in my mucus. I have a history of allergies, sinusitis, and nosebleeds during the winter, so I sleep under a humidifier every night. What I am wondering is what can I do to help my sinus pain? I hate taking Ibuprofen because in the past I have had nosebleeds that took forever to stop and I worry about taking NSAIDS, but tylenol DOES NOT work for me..
Your symptoms of blood in the mucus could be due to sinusitis. They can cause inflammation of the nasal mucosa and the bleeding. Sinus infections can cause stuffiness of the nose with nasal blockage, which can make breathing through the nose difficult. It can also cause post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat. But it could also be due to other causes like polyps or other inflammatory causes due to allergens or infections of the nasal mucosa.
This past weekend when I spit out my mucus there's dime sized blood in it. Mucus is light brown caramel color. This morning I blew my nose and found blood in that as well.
You can purchase a saline nasal spray in any drug store. This will help keep mucus a little more pliable. I use O2 at night and have a similar problem with mucus and slight bleeding. It's helped both. PS. I'm not teasing you, but I hope this is the worse problem you ever have in your life.
However it is possible that you had a transient rise in blood pressure, resulting in both headache and a broken blood vessel somewhere in your respiratory tract. Put the headache aside for a moment, especially if it has not returned. The most likely problem, with the combination of blood in your sputum and air travel, would be a pulmonary embolus. This is a blood clot in an artery of the lungs. Talk about this with your doctor to see if there are any other reasons to suspect this problem.
Isn't there a laboratory searches about nasal secretions(snot-mucus) and hiv? And nasal secretions are too low danger or no danger? You said have no data about nasal secretions. How can we learn the best and right information about nasal secretions and hiv?
I woke up this morning and blew my nose and had what looked like black fibers in my mucus. I know it was nothing I breathed in. I have not been anywhere that it was dirty, my house is extremely clean, I have not been around anything that would cause black stuff to go in my nose. It is awfully weird looking and very dark to be dried blood but I know dried blood can get pretty dark. Does anyone know what is going on with me? I am posting a link to my photobucket that has a picture of my rash.
Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies. Please check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis. If you have chronic sinusitis then it can lead to continuous production of mucus and less drainage leading to post nasal drip.

You can also use nasal corticosteroid sprays like nasocort or flonase. Decongestants may also be helpful in reducing symptoms such as nasal congestion, but they should not be used for long periods. Cromolyn sodium is a nasal spray (Nasalcrom) for treating hay fever. If the symptoms are intense then you can go in for immunotherapy Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
Before considering surgery to clear your nasal passages, you should ask the ENT if a nasal steroid spray might open your nasal passages. If a trial of that doesn't help, you should ask him/her if the deviated nasal septum is causing enough blockage that straightening it would give you a lot of relief. The relationship of dizziness and lightheadedness to eating suggests that you might be having bouts of hypoglycemia. This can sometimes be the first sign of diabetes.
for the past 5 days i have the cold but its been 3 days now i have been seeing blood streaks in the mucus when i blow y nose. but now the blood presence in the mucus is increasing. i am o antibiotics already. can you help me???
Hi, Do not worry this is sometimes normal to see blood in the mucus. Many a times when we blow our nose there will be submucosal bleeding because of the force we exert. Drink plenty of water, do not blow your nose forcefully hereafter. Any more doubts, you are welcome.
I spend the first half hour of the day spitting clear mucus and blowing my nose and then several times during the day. I could not find what it triggers it: cold air, eating, drinking, exercising... Nothing appears to cure or ease it. I take a small dose of blood pressure medication (verapamil), but even if I quit taking it for several days (I should not!) nothing changes. I had chest X rays, Cat scans and pulmunary functions tests. All it's OK.
Lately everytime that I blow my nose I get real green mucus with streaks of blood in it along with a headache that comes and goes daily. I asked my doctor if it was a sinus infection and he said, maybe and left it at that. could it be a sinus infection and what can I take for it because my doctor never gave me anything to treat it .

I have noticed though that from time to time it is brownish or appears to have blood in it. After this last bout I was given antibiotics which have gotten rid of the yellow junk problem, but this morning when I had my usual cough, blood came up, bright red and fresh. I am concerned I may have some sort of nasal cancer as I am a recently quit (social) smoker of 20yrs. Is this something to worry about?
