Blood high sedimentation rate

Common Questions and Answers about Blood high sedimentation rate

1113735 tn?1273174430 I noticed that you mentioned rheumatoid arthritis on your profile. If you have rheumatoid arthritis that would account for the high sedimentation rate since it's a test that measures inflammation. Your iron is high and the hemoglobin is on the high side of normal. It would be significant because females that have rheumatoid arthritis tend to be anemic. Having too much iron can work against the treatment for Hep C. By the way, were you fasting when you had this blood test done?
3191241 tn?1345032381 Your RBC is your red blood count and it came back in normal range. The sedimentation rate, also known as ESR or erythrocyte sedimentation rate, is a nonspecific disease indicator, particularly of conditions of inflammation. Taber's medical dictionary (and I've had a doctor who felt the same way about it) doesn't think it is a screening that is useful. There was a doctor who said if you had a hangnail, your ESR could go up!
Avatar f tn Hi there, ESR is a test used to check for the erythrocyte sedimentation rate of red blood cells. A high values indicates inflammation anywhere in the body. This test is a screening test and cannot be used for diagnosis. It is useful for detecting and monitoring autoimmune disorders, arthritis, tuberculosis, inflammatory diseases etc.A high ESR can be seen in anemia, pregnancy, multiple myeloma, thyroid disease, giant cell arteritis, allergic vasculitis, kidney disease and autoimmune disorders.
Avatar m tn The RBCs become sediment in the bottom of the test tube over time, leaving the blood serum visible above. The classic sedimentation rate is simply how far the top of the RBC layer has fallen (in millimeters) in one hour. The sedimentation rate INCREASES WITH MORE INFLAMMATION) The normal sedimentation rate (Westergren method) for males is 0-15 millimeters per hour, females is 0-20 millimeters per hour. The sedimentation rate can be slightly more elevated in the elderly.
Avatar m tn m assuming this means erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and HPV or any other STD for that matter. I did come across an article online that says, "Moderately elevated ESR occurs with inflammation, but also with anemia, infection, pregnancy, and old age." I would follow up with your doctor to see what possible causes could be.

Avatar m tn now her eyes are 70% ok. but meanwhile she was asked to take a blood test in which ERYTHROCYTE SEDIMENTATION RATE results came in 31mm. After that doctor suggested the below tablets, Prednisolone 40mg per day for one week..and asked to reduce each week..
Avatar f tn I'm 30 years old and just received some blood results about my sedimentation rate, rheumatoid factor, and ANA. My doctor wanted to get me checked out because she has suspected that I could possibly either have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis due to having weakness in my left arm and weakness and numbness in my left ring and pinkie fingers. I have been feeling very tired on and off for the past 4 years and my left arm has these flare ups every 6 months or so.
Avatar f tn I think the OP is referring to the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), also called a sedimentation rate. It is the rate at which red blood cells sediment in a period of one hour. It is a common hematology test, and is a non-specific measure of inflammation. Unfortunately, you posted this in the Heart Rhythm Community.
Avatar f tn He said to get an ANA (anti-nuclear antigen) and sedimentation rate every 6 months. The ANA, or maybe anti double stranded DNA (more accurate) is looking for lupus, and it is a general sign for autoimmune disease. It is positive in CFS in 25% and by itself means little. The sed rate is a sign for inflammation. It is almost always low or normal in CFS. CFS does NOT have autoimmune damage to the kidneys, which is a very important part of lupus.
Avatar m tn A slightly elevated AST level is expected in breast fed infants. By erythrocyte rate I presume you mean erythrocyte sedimentation rate. This is only slightly elevated at 18. It is an indication of inflammation, anemia, or any chronic disease like tuberculosis. However in all of them the rate is very high. Since both the tests were only marginally above the normal range, the doctors asked you to wait for 4 weeks before repeating them.
Avatar m tn Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) -- Also called anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) Erythrocyte sedimentation rate – Also called ESR or “SED rate,” this test measures how fast red blood cells cling together, fall and settle (like sediment) in the bottom of a glass tube over the course of an hour. The higher the SED rate, the greater the amount of inflammation. There are many conditions that can cause an elevated ESR, including an infection or anemia.
487969 tn?1249313291 The sedimentation rate is also called the erythrocyte sedimentation rate because it is a measure of the red blood cells (erythrocytes) sedimenting in a tube over a given period of time. Sedimentation rate is often abbreviated as sed rate or ESR. The normal sedimentation rate (Westergren method) for males is 0-15 millimeters per hour, females is 0-20 millimeters per hour. The sedimentation rate can be slightly more elevated in the elderly.
Avatar n tn t worry about it at all. The ESR test is called an erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Basically what this test is for is to indicate inflammation or swelling. They usually use this test for people with arthritis, and it's not an uncommon test either. They might have run it because her white cell count (the wbc's) were slightly elevated, and wanted to see if there was inflammation anywhere. Average people's sed rate usually falls around the 20 min.
Avatar n tn This needs a thorough evaluation for conditions like rheumatic diseases like scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism and trauma. Certain blood tests to check for erythrocyte sedimentation rate, rheumatoid factor and antinuclear antibody may be required. You also need your cervical spine evaluated for any degenerative disc disease or disc prolapse with cervical canal stenosis causing both upper and lower limb symptoms. Check your blood sugar control with glycosylated hemoglobin values.
547181 tn?1255146506 estimated sedimentation rate. i think it means a kind od inflammation somewhere. not sure specifically what it means for your liver.
Avatar f tn Hi, I just had blood tests done, general and TSH and T4 free done. My TSH level is at 3.82 mlU/Land my T4 free level is at 11.5pmol/L . On the reference range it says that my TSH is normal (should be in between 0.40 and 4.40) but i've read that it shouldn't be over 3.0. I also have a sligthly high MCH of 31.8 pg/cell and a low RDW of 12.4 cV as well as slightly high cholesterol of 4.93 mmol/L and a sedimentation rate of 16 mm/hr.
Avatar f tn I have been to my primary who ordered a full panel blood test and everything was in range except for my Estimated sedimentation rate that came back mildly high. I also have seen a dermatologist who only prescribed me a steroid cream, which dosent help at all. Im worried its a lymphoma cancer or cervical cancer. I had sex yesterday and it was pretty painful and Ive been having random lower bacl pains. What is happening to me.
Avatar f tn Before being diagnosed with Hep C my RA factor came back high. There is also something called a sedimentation rate that my rhumatologist used to rule out RA as well as xrays of my joints and the fact that my joint pain was not symetric.
Avatar m tn I have done a full blood check up as few days ago I have been detected with high blood pressure (140/100). in the following area I got alarm. SEDIMENTATION RATE (ESR) -18mm/hr, TRIGLYCERIDES 178 mg/dl, CHOLESTEROL HDL 34 mg/dl, URIC ACID 7.9 mg/dl, ALANINE AMINOTRANSFERASE (SGPT) 95 u/l, ASPARTATE AMINOTRANSFERASE(SGOT) 51 u/l, TSH 21.87 μIU/mL, Is there any one reason for all these. My age is 44-male Weight - 83 Kgs, Height-5ft 5inch. What diet should I follow.
