Avatar n tn Okay - I was happy with my One Touch Ultra. Yes, it failed to pipe up enough blood sometimes resulting in a wasted strip. Yes, the 1 mu thing is a marketing gimmick since it still wants 3 mu of blood or the strip won't fill and you get an error. But - I learned its qwirks and got used to it.
Avatar f tn Does the Ultra mini hurt when using it? I've read that the lancet can be painful. Also, what do you think about testing on the forearm instead of the finger?
Avatar n tn As a long term Diabetic 2, I have been using quite a few brands:Free Style, One Touch, and lately the ReliOn sold at WalMart. I think the Relion is the better of all. It's least expensive, at least it's much cheaper than the most popular One Touch, and its lancet system gives me the least pain and it requires the least amount of my blood sample as little as the Freestyle do.
Avatar f tn t seen in 6 months) recommended the One Touch Ultra glucometer. What options are there for an affordable method of testing? Should we see a different endocrinologist? How can we make this affordable? Thank you so much for your help!
Avatar m tn Thank you very much for the advise. iuse ultra one touch . isnt it a good one.I have one more doubt. You said home meters are said to havea 20% variantion in accuracy. does it mean the meter shows 20% less or 20% more in the value when compared to lab result? idnt understand. kindly enlighten on the issue.I f the Fasting sample gives a result of 112 , does it mean the lab test result will be more than this or less than this.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
Avatar f tn s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.
503651 tn?1223174601 takes 6-8 weeks for USPS to deliver unit. Mine came with 10 each test strips and lancets and a test fluid bottle. Calibrate to strip number prior to using.
Avatar f tn I have two different meters-One Touch Ultra Mini and Accu-Chek Aviva. Is there any place to get free supplies or very low cost supplies for these meters? Your suggestions ar greatly appreciated! Thank you !

Avatar f tn i currently use one touch monitor and strips. The strips come in packs of 25. Script is for 50 a month. Barely enough to test for one month- 2x a day. I am paying 18.00 for 50 even with good insurance. Any way to bring this down? Any other meters and strips that are less expensive?
Avatar m tn I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.
Tbd The start up kit also came with a discount card than lowered the test strips to about $15 per 50 test strips. I only test once a day in the morning unless I have any issues, so the test strips last a little longer than one that needs to test 3+ times per day.
Avatar n tn in blood glucose readings, does that mean my 79 random blood glucose test is A LOT higher than that? And if I WAS fasting for that exam (it was a few months ago, believe it might have been a morning appointment), what does that mean in terms of the false decrease? Does anyone have any realistic/substanial evidence/knowledge on this?
1813627 tn?1337722375 Hi ladies thanks for your input. This is my first pregnancy. I went for my first appointment with the nurse on Wednesday and this coming Tuesday is my ultra sound and meet with the doctor. This is not my normal OBGYN I had to temporarily switch due to my insurance but hopeing to have new insurance in feb and I can go back to my OBGYN especially now because this seems weird.
Avatar n tn Thanks to both of you. As far as I know, the meter is OK and the test strips are well within expiration. The doctor is very, very hesitant to write a prescription for test strips, so I buy them. It's absurb because with my insurance I could test four times a day free. As it is now, I really hoard the test strips. Yes, I try to watch the carbs and sugars, though I fell off the wagon during the Christmas days and that's probably why I'm showing the higher numbers.
866901 tn?1505506236 In googling "blood glucose test strips", I found several websites which offered test strips and glucometers at varying prices (ie.http://www.diabetesnet.com/test_strips.php). Since your cat is going to need lifelong care, it will pay for you to shop around.
Avatar f tn s strips this way since he turned 21 and no longer qualified for Medicaid. He uses the One Touch Ultra, which normally sell for $1 per strip, but I can usually buy them for about .35 per strip on eBay. Your situation is being duplicated every minute across this country.
5536886 tn?1455827346 How did you choose which blood glucose monitor to use? Are there certain features that make one better then the other?
Avatar f tn If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...
Avatar n tn By reusing a glucose test strip they would not get an accurate read on your blood glucose because blood from the previous test would still be on the strip. That fact is common knowledge regardless of what country you are in so despite your suspicions I still do not think you have any cause for concern. If you consult with the hospital who perfomed the test I'm sure they will explain in detail why they cannot resuse test strips.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply, I was actually just curious so I tested my blood with a one touch ultra meter, I found out later after testing my blood from a friend that is diabetic that i should have waited at least two hours after i ate anything. I did it because it was mainly out of curiosity because i have a blood test coming up which included the glocose test. Also i am a worry wort so i worried that 176 was high. Thanks again for the response, i will talk to my doctor about it.
1324377 tn?1274732341 Thank you all for your replies. After the 268 result, I re-tested later and the number went even higher. I checked again just a few moments ago and the number was over 300 now. I thought "something has to be wrong!". So I read through the manual that came with the test unit (One Touch Ultra Mini) and learned how to do a 'Controlled Solution Test' to make sure the test strips and meter were working properly.
