Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose test strips expiration

Avatar n tn Have you calibrated your home meter, the test strips and/or checked for expiration dates? I say this because its known for home meters to go astray with inaccurate results. Expired test strips also will be inaccurate. If interested I can post a Johnson & Johnson web page for free home glucose meter. And lots of good diabetes recipes on the Internet. Do a Google search.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Before stating whether you are in danger of diabetes, or you are normal it would be nice to know the make/model and age of your meter. Age of the test strips, if you are within the expiration date of the test strips, and whether the meter requires calibration prior to use. Knowing the aforementioned helps to determine if your test results qualify or not.
Avatar f tn Second, does your home meter require calibration to test strips? Do the test strips have an expiration date? Can you see a doctor and get tested properly? Ask for an A1c which will average your past 2-3 months glucose levels. The results are presented in percentile [%] which when converted to eAG [estimated Average Glucose] tells you what your daily glucose was. This will tell you your status - normal, prediabetes, or diabetic.
Avatar f tn Home glucose checking is designed to only give a ballpark snapshot of what our blood glucose is at that moment of time. Blood flow through the body is dynamic and the chemistry, including glucose, at any given point will very from one moment to the next. That said unless you took a blood sample and tested it many times (not taking a new sample for each test, thus a different blood chemistry) the variance in readings you recorded are normal.
Avatar m tn if the expiration date on the test strips has passed, are the test strips still good?
Avatar m tn I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.
866901 tn?1505506236 In googling "blood glucose test strips", I found several websites which offered test strips and glucometers at varying prices (ie.http://www.diabetesnet.com/test_strips.php). Since your cat is going to need lifelong care, it will pay for you to shop around.
1414706 tn?1322598630 t been checking because my endo did not instruct me to and I hate pricking my fingers. Now all of my test strips are expired by a couple of months. I can use those strips, but will they be accurate?
Avatar f tn If a person with HIV accidentally gets his/her blood on the meter or the test strips (supplies) is it possible to catch HIV this way when putting your blood in contact with the test strips (supplies)? Hope this makes sense but I just would like assurance. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I have not found any glucose test strip company that offers discounts for the uninsured, but you will find many brands of test strips on eBay for 50% (or greater) off the normal price. Just be sure to buy unopened boxes only and always check the expiration dates. I've had good experiences buying my son's strips this way since he turned 21 and no longer qualified for Medicaid. He uses the One Touch Ultra, which normally sell for $1 per strip, but I can usually buy them for about .
Avatar n tn is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine??? thanks for the help !
Avatar f tn If repeated testing is required, buying the test strips in bulk may be beneficial. Some stores may offer strips at a reduced rate. You could discuss with a pharmacist as to what would be the most suitable option. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
5536886 tn?1455827346 How did you choose which blood glucose monitor to use? Are there certain features that make one better then the other?
Avatar n tn in blood glucose readings, does that mean my 79 random blood glucose test is A LOT higher than that? And if I WAS fasting for that exam (it was a few months ago, believe it might have been a morning appointment), what does that mean in terms of the false decrease? Does anyone have any realistic/substanial evidence/knowledge on this?
446335 tn?1223948356 A recent pre-op blood test showed a blood sugar level of 139. My doctor had me do the 2-hr. glucose tolerance test today. Don't have the results yet but the blood sugar test they did initially showed a level of 140. I know both of those put me into the category of diabetic. Runs in the family BTW, father managed blood sugar with Glucotrol. So what can I expect?
Avatar n tn By reusing a glucose test strip they would not get an accurate read on your blood glucose because blood from the previous test would still be on the strip. That fact is common knowledge regardless of what country you are in so despite your suspicions I still do not think you have any cause for concern. If you consult with the hospital who perfomed the test I'm sure they will explain in detail why they cannot resuse test strips.
Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
325405 tn?1262290178 I was diagnosed this past October as insulin resistant. I had a two hour glucose test and my blood sugar tested normal, but my insulin level was through the roof. My morning readings were 125 to 135. I was put on 500mg of Metformin and started low-carb dieting & exercising. My Metformin increased to 1000mg one month later and then in December my insulin was tested again it was finally normal.
Avatar f tn He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared! What happenes when you do have diabetes? Does it go away after birth? What should I do before taking this other test? Can someone advise? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
Avatar n tn No Rx required for test strips. Try wherever you purchased the glucose test meter, or online at Amazon or web sites like americandiabeteswholesale.
Avatar m tn Before leaving her doctors office your mother should have gotten a wealth of printed information on how to control and manage her diabetes. A list of recommended home glucose test meters should have been part of that package.
