Is the Accu-Chek Compact brand by Roche any better or worse than One Touch Ultra? It looks almost twice the size and heavier. And uses a drum-strip dispensing device that holds 17 strips - way too automated for my taste (too much to go wrong).
I'm looking for help with diabetic supplies, mainly test strips and lancets. I have two different meters-One Touch Ultra Mini and Accu-Chek Aviva. Is there any place to get free supplies or very low cost supplies for these meters? Your suggestions ar greatly appreciated! Thank you !
I too, as a mom of a diabetic teen, am very anxious to have a non-invasive blood glucose monitor be approved for use (besides the Gluco-watch. I checked some internet sites and none that I could find had any new information. If you are interested in being in a study, contact your endocrinologist to see if you would be a candidate to be in one. Perhaps they could point you in the direction of finding an open study somewhere. Also, Joslin Diabetes Center may be a good place to check.

On last tuesday, I performed an Accu Chek test, in order to check out my glucose.
But 3 days later, I was driving and I spot a low profile street prostitute (probably infected with some STD). I get close and touch her butt for less than 3 seconds (I didnt grabbed or rubbed my hand in her butt, I just left the hand touching the butt) with the fingers close to the anus.

I am using Accu-check aviva meter. The test strips code is 505 and that appears on the meter before it gives the prompt to place blood on strip. The strips expire 1/31/2010. Healthy foods have been grilled chicken,veggies, fruit, etc. I am 5'5" and 145 pounds, 28 years old. Can Autonomic neuropathy hide what your blood glucose is? Even with meds for Adult Type II Diabetes my Accu-CHEK monitoring never seems to be right. It runs from 135, 145,200 and even up to 300 once. My a1c is always good, 5.5, 6.0 even before I started meds for Adult Type II Diabetes and even after starting meds it stays the same.
You didn't have a risk from getting and HIV test. NO CLINIC reuses lancets.
s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.
I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.
I changed pumps a while ago and have some accu-chek supplies I cannot use. I've been wishing I knew someone who could use them.

My mother(50) is the one who frequently checks her levels with it and she has used the same lancet many times before today. Could my father or me have contracted hepatitis B or C? My mother does not have either hepatitis B or C. Please someone reply. I'm freaking out.

As far as I know, the meter is OK and the test strips are well within expiration. The doctor is very, very hesitant to write a prescription for test strips, so I buy them. It's absurb because with my insurance I could test four times a day free. As it is now, I really hoard the test strips.
Yes, I try to watch the carbs and sugars, though I fell off the wagon during the Christmas days and that's probably why I'm showing the higher numbers.
