Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose test side effects

blood

Avatar f tn ) I have been ordered to take a first trimester blood glucose test to check for diabetes early. I cannot tell you how awful it is to be here, empty stomach fasting, and have to drink that syrupy stuff when I'm still in the throws of 1st trimester nausea. Trying not to throw up. But already dizzy. If you did a 1st trimester blood glucose screening, how did yours go?
674555 tn?1272600376 I can no longer tolerate alcohol at all. I had the same exact thing. My docotor did a glucose tolerance test (which is different than just a plain old fasting glucose) it's a 3 hour test, and found out that I am hypoglycemia. Drinking for years on end can cause your body to overreact to sugar and spike your insulin and then drop your blood sugar. It always happens to me between 1 and 3 am. I've cut out all of the sugary stuff and alcohol, but now am having leg cramps!
Avatar m tn Facial rashes, night sweats and the closing of my throat. That is when I stopped using Bactrim. All other side effects are gone except for the closing of my throat that comes on and off, especially when I'm done eating. It's been going on for 2 weeks (since my last bactrim dose). It doesn't make my breathing or eating any difficult but is just very annoying. It stopped for 2 days and happened one late night, 2-3 hours after drinking alcohol.

2074425 tn?1339178443 Hi ladies!! Just got done taking my glucose test which wasn't that bad. Just the side effects of it. I feel so light headed and my head hurts so bad! How did you ladies do with the test?
Avatar n tn It's okay that you posted here since you mentioned the possibility of having hyperthyroidism and we are a thyroid community... You could also try posting your question in the Women's Health community, as they will know more about current birth control substances than I do since it's been 40+ yrs since I tried to take them. You could also post in the Diabetes community. https://www.medhelp.org/forums/Womens-Health/show/81 https://www.medhelp.
6403762 tn?1381712518 I have my glucose test in mid January and my doc said I had to fast. Most of the time you need to..I wouldn't eat just to get accurate results. If your doc said you can eat, then I'm sure it'll be ok to have crackers or something.
Avatar f tn I just got a call that I failed my glucose test. I am so disappointed and really don't want to do the three hour test. I have had five babies and never failed a glucose test.
Avatar n tn Are weight loss and drops in blood glucose levels side effects of tamoxifen? I had a lumpectomy for DCIS one year ago and have been on tamoxifen for 10 1/2 months. I started taking the tamoxifen in the evenings; however, I found that I wasn't sleeping well, so I began taking it in the mornings. I find that if I do not take it with my breakfast or immediately after, my blood gluclose levels drop sharply.
194838 tn?1303428544 to get labs done, especially if you have diabetes, they will most likely want to do a cholesterol test, which IS a fasting test. This test will be very good info for keeping up with your overall health. If I were you, I would just skip breakfast or lunch, whatever is closer to your app.
Avatar m tn http://www.diabetesmonitor.com/ghb.htm It appears that you may have been slightly hypoglycemic for the past 3 weeks, the period of time tested by the fructosamine test. However, your a1c level is slightly higher than the ideal, although still not "bad." Most endocrinologists nowadays like to see a1c levels close to 6 or even in the upper 5's, but generally are happy if the a1c number is under 7. Your number at exactly 7 is on the upper range of the usual goal.
Avatar m tn t explain the A1C test to you. It is an average of your blood sugars over a 3 month period. Normal is about 5-6 I believe. 6.8 is diabetic. Now how did you get your a1c without a doctor ordering the test?? Do you remember what you ate 2 hours before you got that 400 reading? Did you check it again just to be sure? I bet you had a meal with possibly a lot of starch and carbohydrates? Bread, potatoes, maybe a rich dessert? or your portion size was a little more then it should be?
Avatar f tn have you checked your blood glucose level and blood pressure ? It may be related.
1616588 tn?1298639117 Please voice your concern to your physician, do not EVER sit in silence and hope the side effects will go away. This could be serious!!! Again, SEE YOUR PHYSICIAN,and do let me know.
1806721 tn?1554333407 In the past 6 months, besides rapid weight loss, I also experienced fatigue, weakness, cold feet, dizziness, sudden drop of blood pressure, increased thirst and trips to restroom, low grade fever on and off with left side abdominal pain. My doc thought I had UTI and ulcer b/c my urine/blood test show staph and h pylori infections. Two months ago, my fasting glucose was 92 (normsl). However, I also heard that you may still have high blood sugar even though the fasting level is normal.
Avatar f tn Concerned about even doing my glucose test because of how sick and shakey I get from even the slightest bit of sugar. My husband is scared and so am I that something could go wrong. Has anyone had anybad reactions to the test? I was fine the fist two times just never reacted like this to any form of sugar, I was always fine just a little nauseated from it. My heart races and I feel dizzy and faint now when I have sweets.
Avatar f tn t try to take my blood again I would just let them know that you are nervouse about the blood draw if they could get someone who is really good at taking blood to do yours because if you were to have diabetes that can have serious side effects for you and your child if its not managed properly during your pregnancy a lot worse than a bad blood draw
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any bad side effects to the 1 hour glucose test? Mine was late this afternoon and since I got home I've felt so dizzy, shaky, and sick to my stomach. Anyone else?
1654177 tn?1319838494 Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting). My blood sugar was 68 ml/dl, the standard range is 70-140 ml/dl. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice?
4182046 tn?1355820039 When I get my blood drawn I never look, I just look up or the other direction. It helps alot to do that because when I got my blood drawn for the glucose test I didn't even feel it, the needle was so thin.
1461994 tn?1285897132 Hi, I've been on Interferon/Ribavarin therapy for 3 weeks now for HCV Genotype 2B. When I started, my glucose was 78 but it jumped to 90 this week. Is this normal? Should I be concerned that I'm going to develop diabetes if I continue with tx for 21 more weeks? My blood sugar has always been in the 70's or 80's, no family history of diabetes, I'm 59, thin and in good physical condition otherwise.
