my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
Are you concerned about the upward trend in your readings? If so, assuming that you did the testing with a "home" blood glucose meter, and that you tested at the same time each day, your readings are well within the accuracy range of the meter.
225 was high so in morning i went to lab with gluco meter and they picked blood from vein and tested on gluco meter ist it was 103 and in lab 87.lab technician told me that go home eat drink tea with sugar and come back after two hours.i did it and went to lab and result was 80.i went to my doc who is not a specialist in diabetes said do hba1c and result was 5.5.he said moniter your bs for 2 3 days last night i checked after one and half hour after dinner and glucometer reading was 248.

s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. A good way to see if yours is within normal variance is to bring along your meter when you go for a blood draw (from a vein). Within 5-10 minutes of them drawing blood, do your own blood test and save the results. Compare them with what the doc tells you your number was. Your result should be within 15% of the doc's result.
What's important here is to know how you feel & how you function when your BG is at different numbers.

An A1c test measures your glucose going back three months. Why three months? On the average, new red blood cells live three months before dieing off and getting turned into Bilirubin.

However, the symptoms you write to us would lead me to advise you to make an appointment with his doctor just to make sure that he has not had some small stroke or something like that, and even more important, to have the doctor send you to a lab so you can compare the results of his glucose meter with one in the lab or with lab results. It is possible that his meter is not accurate right now for some reason, and it may need to be either calibrated or replaced.

Does anyone in your family have a blood sugar meter you can use to test your sugars. if they do, please test your fasting blood sugar (should be in the 70 - 90 range) and your 2 hour post eating levels (should be ideally 80 - 100 range, but certainly less than 140).
The correct testa for a doctor to do will be fasting blood sugar and Hba1c. IF either of these tests are abnormal, they should be doing a glucose tolerance test and maybe antibodies.
When you have an actual average glucose obtained with OneTouch or other meter, the following formula will give an indicated A1C.
(Actual average glucose + 2.52)/1.583/100
This should be used to compare to your actual A1C obtained from the lab.
