Blood glucose levels of non fasting

Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose levels of non fasting

blood-glucose

Avatar n tn A fasting glucose test will give a fairly accurate reading of the amount of excess glucose floating around your blood streams. A measurement of 5.0 mmol/l is considered normal, not diabetic.
Avatar f tn Hello~I am not a doctor or lab technician, so I really can not give you a clear answer on this. However, I am wondering if this test was "fasting" or "non-fasting" If fasting, the glucose looks a wee bit high to me, not much, but higher than most doctors like it to be if you are fasting, the desired levels are under 100.
Avatar f tn Another way to get diagnosed of diabetes is to have your fasting blood sugar tested. Fasting refers to no caloric intake for at least 8 hours. if fasting blood sugar is more than 7.0mmol/L, then you would be diagnosed with diabetes. To prevent from being diabetic, it is important to adhere to healthy lifestyle--healthy eating and exercise.
Avatar m tn Both of your values suggest that you have impaired fasting glucose (range 100 - 125). The measurement is the same in fasting and non fasting testing - the difference is in the reference range. A normal fasting glucose is < 100 and the current thinking seems to be that even a result in the mid to high 90s might suggest close monitoring. The answer to your question is that it doesn't matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result.
Avatar m tn I think A1c is veyr important for monitoring trend over time. Fasting blood glucose is a bit useful in that fasting glucose can change over time and indicate a problem. But in many people the fasting blood glucose might be one of the last numbers to be abnormal. On the other hand fasting blood sugar can also be affected by your previous day's meal and activity levels.
3923358 tn?1358552214 About 1/2 after i ate I started to feel sort of out of it and so I tested it and my blood sugar was 69, is that low. Also yesterday my fasting glucose was 131. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn There are several ways you can diagnose diabetes. Your level last night after one cup of soda is more representative of a random blood glucose. A random glucose of >200mg/dL with symptoms of diabetes is diagnostic of Type 2 Diabetes. Therefore, from that one measure, you do not have Type 2 Diabetes. However, your fasting sugar is within the pre-diabetic range. Are you pregnant? You posted in the gestation diabetes section which is diabetes within pregnancy. Hope that helps!
649848 tn?1534633700 Insulin levels have only been measured a couple of times. The last time it was measured blood glucose was 125, with insulin at 8.1. Blood glucose was considered to be in pre-diabetic range, while insulin level was considered to be normal. Now that I've had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia...
Avatar n tn One takes the A1c test at given time, fasting or not fasting. The A1c will measure back three months the amount of glucose in your blood stream, the results are shown in percentile. Can't cheat on this test. Hope this answers your thoughts.
Avatar n tn Is the blood sugar level expected to RISE with age? EXAMPLE: If a person is 21 years old, healthy, NON-diabetic and have a fasting blood sugar of 72 would you "expect" the same fasting blood sugre level (72) from a 60 year old, healthy NON-diabetic person?
Avatar m tn I started measuring my blood glucose levels because i have family history of type 2 diabetes. So when i get the chance (and i get a lot) i test my blood glucose levels. I do a lot of tests and the blood glucose levels were never >140 mg /ml (134 was the highest one, so i got concerned). While fasting usually the blood glucose is arround 90. 1 day happened to be 108 (i ate a lot the night before).
Avatar n tn In normal children blood sugar will stay close to fasting levels all the time. Ie. his blood sugar is probably in the range of 70 to 90, regardless of what he eats. Actually in non-diabetic adults blood sugar will also stay close to fasting levels all the time.
Avatar f tn Normal fasting blood glucose for a non-diabetic person will be < 95, with ideal considered to be in the mid- to low 80s. One issue is that sometimes post meal numbers can be abnormally high, even while fasting appears normal or close to normal. So I would recommend that you request an hba1c, which is a test for average 3 month blood sugar. ideally that result will be 5.0 or less. You could alternatively buy a blood glucose meter and test your levels from time to time.
304573 tn?1345577338 Anyone start having problems with their blood glucose levels...seems I am becoming hyperglycemic.....
1461994 tn?1285897132 s nurse coordinatior that everything was ok, to continue with the same dosage. Then today, I got a copy of my blood tests in the mail and it kind of freaked me out that my blood sugar increased so quickily. I made the decision to undergo Tx now since my chances are good with 2B and I have no liver damage yet but I do not want to trade one serious disease for another. Before Tx, I felt healthy and energetic, walked 5-10 miles everyday.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting). My blood sugar was 68 ml/dl, the standard range is 70-140 ml/dl. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice?
999058 tn?1257563650 Hello, You don't need to do a Glucose tolerance test, what you can do is test him 2 hours after eating a normal meal and also fasting levels. Fasting should be < 90 for a child and 2 hours after eating should be < 120. If his numbers are higher, then restrict carbs, make sure he drinks plenty of water and get him in to see his Dr asap. If you measure readings over 300 you can take him to the ER.
Avatar f tn I would recommend recording your blood sugar levels fasting, and 1 hour after you eat and speaking about it with your doctor. The fasting level that you mention in your question is elevated. You want to speak with your doctor soon, so that you can get your sugars regulated either by diet and exercise or medications if that is what is recommended. It also might be helpful to keep a food journal until you see your doctor.
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
Avatar m tn However one number is just one number and what would be better is to have an A1C done. This gives you an average of blood sugars for a period of about three months. I suggest talking with your doctor, getting an accurate diagnosis and then going from there. If you are determined to be pre-diabetic or to have type 2 diabetes then you can begin to determine a plan to manage your blood sugars. Type 2 diabetes is a manageable condition, but if you ignore it the consequences are quite serious.
Avatar n tn I have the same but no panic attacks , it all to do with eating I believe ..
