Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose levels of 400

blood-glucose

Avatar n tn Any type of illness will cause your blood sugar to go out of control. So the fact that you have a "bad cold" is probably the cause. That being said, a high blood sugar should be a cause for concern especially if the cold is causing you to not be able to eat or drink fluids. If you get dehydrated, it will cause your blood sugar to go up even higher. So make sure that you're having plenty of fluids and do NOT skip meals when your blood sugar is high.
Avatar m tn t explain the A1C test to you. It is an average of your blood sugars over a 3 month period. Normal is about 5-6 I believe. 6.8 is diabetic. Now how did you get your a1c without a doctor ordering the test?? Do you remember what you ate 2 hours before you got that 400 reading? Did you check it again just to be sure? I bet you had a meal with possibly a lot of starch and carbohydrates? Bread, potatoes, maybe a rich dessert? or your portion size was a little more then it should be?
Avatar f tn jsp My suggestion is low or no sugar and stay away from bad carbs for the latter will jack up his glucose levels. For a list of good carbs vs bad carbs go here http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6628.
Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar m tn I would call the ER or go down to them 400 is way to high
Avatar n tn It usually occurs in adulthood, but young people are increasingly being diagnosed with this disease. The pancreas does not make enough insulin to keep blood glucose levels normal, often because the body does not respond well to insulin. Many people with type 2 diabetes do not know they have it, although it is a serious condition. Type 2 diabetes is becoming more common due to increasing obesity and failure to exercise.
Avatar m tn The blood glucose test is ordered to measure the amount of glucose in the blood right at the time of sample collection. It is used to detect both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, to help diagnose diabetes, and to monitor glucose levels in persons with diabetes. The urine glucose is seldom ordered by itself. At one time, it was used to monitor diabetics, but it has been largely replaced by the more sensitive and “real time” blood glucose.
Avatar m tn simply stated, tells you how much of your red blood cells have glucose attached. Since red blood cells live 120 days, the test can tell how well your blood glucose has been controlled over 3 months. Normal level (without diabetes) is below 7%. A1c is now being recommended to diagnose Type II diabetes, instead of doing 2 FPGs. It's a very accurate test. Keeping your BG under control will bring it down. Good luck!
Avatar n tn A fasting glucose test will give a fairly accurate reading of the amount of excess glucose floating around your blood streams. A measurement of 5.0 mmol/l is considered normal, not diabetic.
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.
Avatar n tn s for years then hope to reverse it, nor even those who are first diagnosed but have skyrocketing fasting glucose high levels say in the 300-400 mg/dl. To reduce the latter glucose levels will take some time with the continued lifetime use of medication. Just my opinion.

863754 tn?1239144755 My aunt is in the hospital, as I type this, fighting to stay alive. After speaking with the doctors about her condition, I've discovered that they have absolutely no idea why she's dying. I'm posting here in the hopes of saving her life. For some reason, her blood glucose levels won't stabilize. They'll give her a shot of glucose to get her levels up, but in the matter of a few hours, it's back down to around 50 or 60 and they have to give her another shot.
Avatar m tn With lemon juice, t2 diabetics can digest food easier without risking elevated glucose levels or putting their glucose levels at risk. So go ahead and enjoy those lemons.
373640 tn?1204549791 A blood glucose reading of 140 is just a hair on the high side of normal and since you have just conpleted your steroids, your sugars should return to normal within a few days. When I had steroids, I found that the effects of the steroids only last a couple of weeks. I don't know about others experienes. I really do not think that you have anything to worry about with your glucose readings. I would definitely keep a check on your readings over the next couple of weeks.
Avatar n tn A diet that includes fruits, vegetables, fiber-containing foods, and low-fat milk is advised. Consumption of foods with a low glucose levels appears to reduce postprandial glucose rise and improve glycemic control. Reduced calorie and nonnutritive sweeteners are useful. However at this range it is also better to start with medications for diabetes to bring down the blood sugar levels. Please consult an endocrinologist for the same.
Avatar n tn When a person runs blood sugars this high they can experience ketoacidosis, which is an excessive amount of glucose in the blood. The results can be very damaging to his system and if continued can be life threatening. I truly do not mean to scare you, but these are pretty high blood sugars on a consistent basis that needs to be addressed. If you decide to take him to a hospital, please have him checked for ketones. Please let us know what you find out.
