Hello All been feeling out of sorts, started seeing a new (better) doctor and per suggestions from others bought myself a glucose meter online to check my levels. Back on 6/5 in office blood tests showed non fasting Glucose levels at 56 (range 65-99), lab results from 6/26 Hemoglobin A1c 5.5 (range 4.8-5.6).

Hello, mianna. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Your glucose level is cause for concern, but you don't mention what the other symptoms are that you're seeing. There is a simple check that can be done at your doctor's office, I'd recommend you ease your concerns by scheduling an appointment. Good luck.

Start a written log of what you eat/drink and portion size, next to it your blood sugar levels. Test before you eat [preprandial] for a baseline measurement and then 2-3 hours after you finish your meal [postprandial]. You do have a home glucose test meter, right? By comparing preprandial with postprandial, postprandial will inform you which foods elevate your levels and which ones do not. You need to make a concentrated lifestyle change starting with foods.

Use your home meter to test your glucose levels. If you're having memory issues start a log - date/time/dose - so you have something to reference in the future.

I have been monitoring my glucose levels for a few days now and was wondering when to go to my doctor. A little history. I am high risk for type II based on family history, two pregnancies with gestational diabetes and I am about 50 lbs overweight. I was also diagnosed with hypoglycemia at 16 (I'm now 32) On Monday I was feeling foggy, trembly and weak so I decided to check my glucose to see how low I was. I was actually at 187.

I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.

As far as the different readings, not all blood cell samples are alike because not all red blood cells carry, if any, the same amount, if any, of excess glucose. This is NOT a fasting glucose. My dad is diabetic and he has all of the tools to test blood. He has regular diabetes not Type 2 but it usually skips a generation. I had blood taken at the doctor last week, again, not fasting, for other health problems and it came back at 169. My doc obviously wants to retest me when I've been fasting and get an A1c.

First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. Normal levels are: * Fasting [prandial]: 70-99 mg/dl * After meal 2-3 hrs [postprandial]: below 180 mg/dl although some doctors prefer to see below 140 mg/dl. You need to reference your lab copy of the test results for the ranges expected by your doctor.

Anyone start having problems with their blood glucose levels...seems I am becoming hyperglycemic.....

What do I do if my fasting or before meal blood glucose is above 130? Do I eat something anyway, or wait until my blood glucose drops below 130, or perhaps below 110? Sometimes my before meal number is 145-185, but I still feel hungry (happens usually if I have eaten a carb heavy meal the night before... I'm trying to stop doing that). Should I exercise before meals in an effort to bring my before-meal blood sugar down enough for it to be OK to eat something?

With lemon juice, t2 diabetics can digest food easier without risking elevated glucose levels or putting their glucose levels at risk. So go ahead and enjoy those lemons.

I think you shoud really see your endocrinologist, the sooner the better, they may suggest keeping a log of your blood sugars as well

Consumption of foods with a low glucose levels appears to reduce postprandial glucose rise and improve glycemic control. Reduced calorie and nonnutritive sweeteners(better avoided in epileptics) are useful.

Hi Spitfire, My A1C was also 6.3 and I am monitoring my glucose levels but am not diabetic. You want that number to stay under 6%. The A1C comes from a 3 month average of our glucose that can be read from our blood tests. A 1% change in an A1c result reflects a change of about 30 mg/dL (1.67 mmol/L) in average blood glucose.

Am going same thing you are my baby is measuring small so i go to a fetal specialist every week i have gestitional diabetes started seeing a doctor for that too i have to take my blood levels log them 4 times a day its scary but dont worry as long as they say your baby is okay the doctor tells me that they trying to keep my baby in me as long as they can.. just pray and relax i know is hard i get depressed at times..

You need to see an Endocrinologist for blood work. Your glucose levels are high, and the sooner you start treatment the better.

Well, the fact that the first poster's husband did a comparison test and his number was normal at 86 would seem to indicate that the machine is NOT giving false numbers. Her blood sugar probably really IS that high, and this is extremely dangerous -- could be life-threatening. It really is imperative that she have a true lab test done to see if there really is a blood sugar problem.
