Avatar n tn Hormones control the menstrual cycle in a woman. Higher hormon levels generally will effect blood glucose levels. Some women find their blood glucose rises considerably, while others do not notice a difference. In some women, blood glucose levels are lower before and during their periods. Each woman needs to discover her own pattern. I think she needs to figure out how her body works. She is young and is just learning how her body reacts to this. I hope this was helpful.
Avatar n tn The main thing for you to focus on is testing often and trying to keep your sugar levels as normal as possible all throughout the pregnancy. Most doctors want pregnant type 1 diabetic women to keep their glucose levels as low as possible without risking hypoglycemia. And the way to do this is to test more often than usual and adjust often. More insulin if levels go high, juice if levels drop low. If you test often, you can catch both problems and normalize them.
Avatar n tn I had a c-section with my first and have recently read that multiple c-sections can cause longterm harm to surrounding organs on any mom. So as a type 1 is there extra risks in multiple c-sections? Is a second pregnancy going to pose a threat to health that would make adoption a better option for us? All of my doctors ( endocrin, OB, optomitrist) seem reluctant to talk about it.
Avatar n tn I am not quite sure what your question is about concerning the alcohol. Are you asking which to drink first, or asking what the effects might be? The answer is that alcohol lowers the liver's ability to release emergency sugars that all people store in their livers in case they haven't eaten in a long time and glucose levels drop (which can happen to non-diabetics as well as to diabetics, but which can be life-threatening to the type 1 diabetic).
Avatar m tn She said there were traces of glucose and white blood cells in my urine. She has asked me to go in for a blood test and I think a Prostate psa test. I'm worried it could be something serious?
Avatar n tn We have described best glucose levels in children as they grow and develop: Five and younger: Normal blood sugar targets are 100 to 200mg/dl. Age 5 to 11: Normal blood sugar targets are 70 to 150mg/dl. Fasting blood sugars should be nearer to 70mg/dL. Blood sugar after meals and before bedtime should be near 150mg/dL. Age 12 and older A healthy glucose level of age 12 and elder should be near 70mg/dl when fasting and 150mg/dl after meals.
Avatar n tn You mention that diabetes does run in the family, so if you have access to a blood glucose monitor, you may want to check her bg level yourself. You can also purchase urine test strips that indicate sugar levels, however they are several hours old, and also if ketones are present in the urine. If she is showing ketones, this is extremely urgent and you should seek immediate medical attention.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am wondering if dyslipidemia is as much of an issue for type 1 diabetics as it is for type 2's. The minute I was diagnosed and got the blood glucose controlled, all lipid counts were good. Type 1 is not a result of "metabolic syndrome" and I don't see as much emphasis on statins in the Type 1 forums.
Avatar n tn They starting gettin more sever ( extream dry moth, mental foginess, shaking, vomiting) so I went to the Dr. They tested my fasting glucose levels in the office (finger *****) and it was 227. I was immedicately sent to a lab for blood work. My gloucose level came back at 80. That was w/in half an hour. A week later I returned to the Dr. office they said I was "normal". I insisted on another test. They did another in office test (fasting again) and I came back at 180.

Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
307500 tn?1302116146 Says because I have Clusters of AutoImmune Diseases I most likly have type 1 diabetes. This week He has run lost of test, blood, and heart tests and blood flow. Avatar n tn Blood glucose levels of patients with chronic HCV infection were routinely assessed at all outpatient visits during and after treatment with pegylated-IFN-alpha (Peg-IFN-alpha) and ribavirin (Riba). RESULTS: Between December 2002 and October 2005, 189 non-diabetic patients were treated with Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba, of whom five developed type 1 DM (2.6%), three type 2 DM (1.6%) and one an indeterminate type of DM.
Avatar n tn I posted this question under Adult Diabetes - Type 2 before I found Type 1 listed under Juvenile rather than Type 1 Diabetes. Confusing for those of us that are Adults with Type 1 !!!! I suggest changing headings to Diabetes - Type 1 (Juvenile)and Diabetes Type 2 (Adult) as they are more appropriately named. I just looked under D for diabetes and only saw Type 2 Forum. Just a symantics thing I guess - most people do not look under J for Diabetes info. Anyway here is the question...
Avatar n tn Most diabetics take it at night so that this wearing-off time happens after dinner when the dinner dose of Humalog or Novalog is working full-force so that glucose levels cannot rise. But if you take it in the morning, it slowly wears off in the early morning hours while there is NO quick-acting insulin working.
Avatar n tn have you tested your glucose levels when these symptoms hit you? You may find that your glucose levels have dropped too low, for these are some of the symptoms of low blood sugar. Many people do mention tingling in hands when glucose levels drop too low. I would heartily recommend that the next time this happens, you do an immediate glucose test, and then perhaps test again about 45 minutes later.
Avatar n tn Do you have a nurse at school that can help her monitor her blood sugars throughout the day? Changes in routine can also affect the glucose levels, and she may need to have her insulin doses adjusted. Our emotions can change our glucose requirements too. I have been type 1 diabetic for 20 years. I notice that when I get nervous, my levels go down.
Avatar n tn t give stimulant medication until his blood glucose levels are in normal range! If he is having high levels, then the insulin is more important because low insulin will affect the brain and make any stimulant meds ineffective. Education is the best way to approach this in a kid who may be resistant to wanting to deal with it. They might be anxious about social issues with "being different" and are merely reacting to that.
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.
Avatar n tn For a personwith type2 diabetes what might happen to blood glucose levels over 1 24 hr period if they had not taken any medication for controling their diabetes? What serious consequence could result?
Avatar m tn I never noticed any increased levels in my blood glucose levels tho. Try one for a day or two, monitor your levels and see if they affect anything. Something that I do is look at the lables when I am not sure if something is ok for me. When you do this compare the lables from a diet soda to a regular soda and see what they look like, this will pretty much give you a answer as well.
Avatar f tn i need help helping him... he has had type 1 over 5 years and believes he will die in a short while... has very few relationships... has closed himself up... goes for days without sleeping... eats huge amounts of food then he may not eat for a day... just slept 20 hours??? his friends do not help him ... i am at my wits end...
Avatar n tn When you were diagnosed, did they do a fasting blood glucose? To diagnose diabetes, your A1C has to be 6.5 or higher, or your fasting blood glucose (blood sugar) has to be equal to or greater than 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/l). This test has to be taken when you've fasted (not had anything to eat) for at least 8 hours. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/7104-diabetes-mellitus-an-overview/diagnosis-and-tests https://www.diabetes.
Avatar m tn A bit more information is needed to answer your question. When was that blood sugar taken? Fasting at first thing in the morning? After meals? (How long?). A random blood sugar doesn't mean that much. If it is fasting, then it is in the pre-diabetes category. Normal fasting is considered to be under 100. Pre-diabetes is considered from 100 to 125 and diabetic is considered 126 and over. However one number is just one number and what would be better is to have an A1C done.
